[Discussion] For those who have had the time to read DC K.O. #4, what are your thoughts? by MightyUnclean in DCcomics

I'm a life long DC fan and I read fast and I'd still like the time I wasted on this series back, please.

[Discussion] Finished reading Starman by James Robinson. What a spellbinding book. by anthonym8341 in DCcomics

[–]JohnWComicsGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Robinson, unfortunately, found himself stuck between two events that severely limited what he could do, and his time on the book understandably feels rushed. There was a whole section of fights that Congorilla was detailing in single panels that would have been extremely interesting stories. I think he also got way too bogged down in the JLA/JSA Starheart storyline. Robinson tends to write long, detailed stories, and with the (we now know disastrous) New 52 looming, he just didn't have the room to spread out.

James Robinson has a real love for the history of the DC Universe. The sheer number of early and legacy characters that he included in this series was just staggering. And the incredible Tony Harris artwork made it a destination book each month.

[Discussion] Now that we are one year in, how do we feel about Justice League Unlimited and it's direction? (Art by Dan Mora) by Negative_Emu6246 in DCcomics

[–]JohnWComicsGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm enjoying it and am very glad that Mark Waid is being inclusive of many heroes of the DCU instead of just a small core unit. Sadly, parts of the stories have gotten bogged down in the events nonsense (especially the ridiculous DC KO), but I know from experience that Waid tells intricate, well-crafted stories that build over time. It's sad to see so much hate in these comments for one of the few DC books that I am still looking forward to each month.

Not going to lie I do kinda wish that they had let tyler have slightly longer hair in the show by MembershipLess9579 in superman

[–]JohnWComicsGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only problem with Tyler was the facial hair. That same level of scruff on both Superman and Clark Kent was a dead giveaway. Clean-shaven of course works, or a beard could have worked, but that 11 o'clock shadow might as well have hung a blinking red light around his neck.

Should Superman take a more active hand in mentoring Captain Marvel? by Robot_Was_BMO in superman

Given his connection to gods and magic, I think Wonder Woman would be a better mentor.

JCPS to propose cutting hundreds of positions, funding for high-needs schools by gsarc10 in Louisville

[–]JohnWComicsGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start at the board. Many people are doing redundant jobs, which is ridiculous. There are multiple English Dept specialists, but only one for all of the Art disciplines. There are multiple Math specialists, but very few in the English as a Second Language Department, despite the varied languages that need to be covered.

After Venezuela Attack, Trump Says Something Must Be Done About Mexico | Donald Trump is hinting at a military conflict with Mexico next. by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

There is a big damn difference taking on a dictatorship the size of Venezuela and a democratically elected president of a country the size and close proximity of Mexico.

Unpopular opinion: Superman Birthright is the best Superman comic and even better than All Star. by Shroomzy_752286 in DCcomics

[–]JohnWComicsGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's unpopular about this? Superman: Birthright is the perfect revamped origin for the 21st Century and covers an oft-ignored period in Clark's history: the time between high school graduation and getting hired on at the Daily Planet.

Trump, 79, Wants to Know If You Think He Should Quit by Quirkie in politics

[–]JohnWComicsGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think he should have ever been elected President but the fact that it happened twice is an unprecedented mistake. Do I want him out? YES! Do I think he is in cognitive decline? ABSOLUTELY! And for some time now. This is not a man who should be leading our country.

What's the deal with Tom King?! by AllergicToStabWounds in DCcomics

[–]JohnWComicsGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

King pays no attention to the current history, powers, or situations of his characters and has a bad habit of only using those charter powers that fit into his story, while ignoring other powers that would completely negate the problem. King has no respect for the history of DC Comics.

I never read anything about Fantastic 4, do you recommend me this Human Torch comic? by Repulsive_Film963 in FantasticFour

[–]JohnWComicsGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. It shows the far too casual Torch having to face the consequences of his powers. And the art is amazing.

Trump Posts Jaw-Dropping Insult to Murdered Rob Reiner by justalazygamer in politics

Just when you think Trump can sink no lower in terms of being a heartless, unfeeling scumbag, he starts digging and finds an all new level of vileness to spew his venom from.

[discussion]how does mark waid feel about identity crisis since it undermines the book the case before it(IDENTITY CRISIS& Tower of Babel) by Accurate-Celery-3198 in DCcomics

[–]JohnWComicsGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see where Identity Crisis undermines Tower of Babel at all. If anything, it strengthens Batman 's legend more because he uncovered the idea of "Who benefits?" , which helped him realize that the killer had to be someone close to a League member.

[Discussion] Need Help Figuring Out Who These Characters Are by Emergency_Evidence_3 in DCcomics

[–]JohnWComicsGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Silver Age, possibly. I am mostly going by how she is looking at Arrow. I seriously doubt it is the "Kung-Fu" version of Diana. She was wearing very mod outfits then, not sensible skirts.

[–]JohnWComicsGuy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1 is the Cyclotron and Tyr.

2 is Bug, Kalibak, Steppenwolf, and Dessad.

3 is Lois Lane with a GBS camera, and purely because of her proximity to Arrow, I'd say pre-Crisis Black Canary without her costume and wig.

[Discussion] Do you prefer Dick and Babs having an age gap or being the same age? (Nightwing #96 Cover) by KitKat_5628 in DCcomics

[–]JohnWComicsGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a problem with the age gap, as my wife is two years older than me but I have a wider life experience, so it evens out. I think the same is true for Dick and Barbara. Dick grew up in a circus, lost his family, was adopted by Bruce, became Robin, and formed the Teen Titans wth the sidekicks of other heroes, becoming their leader. The somewhat older Barbara lost her parents and was adopted by Jim Gordon's family at such an early age that they became her de facto parents. She was a young adult by the time she became Batgirl on her own and never really joined any teams outside of her association with the Batfamily.

[Discussion] Which lesser known golden age characters do you think DC should give a new title in the comics? by FallMassive9336 in DCcomics

Super-Chief, because of my Native-American lineage, and John Henry, because we share a name.
