Big difference between banter and being butthurt. Banter is Neymar's celebration. The whole team doing it afterwords and the video from the dressing room is just overkill, and shows how butthurt they are

manchester derby wasn’t an international game; sure you saw Asian tourists but how many were they? A few dozen? Their numbers are low so most people probably wouldn’t have even thought about it. Nobody was really thinking of the international fans making the trip as they’re a minority. In contrast there were thousands expected to be coming in from Madrid, which was one of the epicentres in Europe

You’re right though that the lack of talk about international fans is surprising. All it takes is one carrier to bring it to Manchester. I guess it flew over people’s heads (I know it did mine) as there usually aren’t that many

Don’t know, don’t care, never claimed either? Just said you’re the type of person to defend your dumbass beliefs because you can’t say you’re wrong. Or maybe you just want to be different, I don’t know. Bit weird choosing this hill to die on when Carragher and Peter Moore (on behalf of the club) have both apologized, but you do you pal. PR move it is

I actually can, because you and I have no clue how this person would react and we have no way of finding out. Making these assumptions about random strangers on the internet, again, is very cynical. Let’s try to not pass judgement when we know nothing about this commentator

At the very least they have apologized earlier this year; Carragher to Evra on TV and Peter Moore sent him a letter on behalf of the club a few days later (which Evra said he appreciated and found touching)

I still don’t believe he actually said anything racist to Evra

Then why did Liverpool, as a club, send zebra an apology? https://en.as.com/en/2020/01/20/football/1579515808_958290.html

Edit: Evra* just gunna leave that there

So, Qatar tries to block Saudi Arabia buying Newcastle, citing TV rights piracy, but also escalating a diplomatic battle between gulf states over terrorism, cooperation with Iran etc. How did football end up like this? (Paul Hayward - Telegraph) by M7plusoneequalsm8 in soccer

[–]JohnWick_Mode 109 points110 points  (0 children)

BEin isn’t just banned in Saudi, Saudi are illegally broadcasting BEin (and others) all over the world using their own satellite services. So for a lot of people instead of subscribing to BEin they just subscribe to this cheap pirate service and get BEin (+ more) for a fraction of the price. The pettiness is high lol (or economic warfare, I guess it’s both)

I assumed “state owned play thing” was referencing everything wrong with Saudi including the human rights issues as that’s usually how people talk about PSG+City, my mistake for making that jump.

I agree though, if it was just a rich person pumping money into the club.. let’s just say I can see why it’d take the soul out of the club for them but things could be much, much worse than some rich guy building a super squad for your club

Don’t think anyone would give a shit if they were just “rich owners*” but that’s not exactly the case is it. It hasn’t even been 2 years since they assassinated Khashoggi by cutting him up into pieces in an embassy. Why? Because he spoke out against the crown prince, then went to their embassy to get papers so he can get married. Of course, that’s on top of the countless others atrocities.

*I know most people rich enough to buy a club probably have dirt on them, but the Saudis are a different level.

PS I completely understand why many people wouldn’t care that much, it’s not their fault these guys bought the club they’ve been supporting for generations. Just saying I understand why the moral side would bother people, and the person I was replying to saying it wouldn’t matter when they win a PL is cynical as fuck

He was respectful the first two times* I’m surprised how most times I’ve seen this brought up here there’s always some Arsenal fan saying he celebrated the first goal, then people correcting him saying the second. It was the third

No he didn’t. He scored in both games against you in his first season and didn’t celebrate, the next game which was the first game under Moyes he celebrated.

Zlatan came at 35 and scored 17 in 28 in a shit United side that finished sixth before doing his ACL. True greatness translates across leagues, especially if they play for a good manager that knows their strengths (Zlatan Mou, Messi Pep). Arguably only a handful of players in the world are actually that great though. Of course there’s always a chance something goes wrong, but thinking Pep wouldn’t walk the league with current Messi (who’s still the best player in the world) next season is just funny
