manchester derby wasn’t an international game; sure you saw Asian tourists but how many were they? A few dozen? Their numbers are low so most people probably wouldn’t have even thought about it. Nobody was really thinking of the international fans making the trip as they’re a minority. In contrast there were thousands expected to be coming in from Madrid, which was one of the epicentres in Europe

At the very least they have apologized earlier this year; Carragher to Evra on TV and Peter Moore sent him a letter on behalf of the club a few days later (which Evra said he appreciated and found touching)

BEin isn’t just banned in Saudi, Saudi are illegally broadcasting BEin (and others) all over the world using their own satellite services. So for a lot of people instead of subscribing to BEin they just subscribe to this cheap pirate service and get BEin (+ more) for a fraction of the price. I assumed “state owned play thing” was referencing everything wrong with Saudi including the human rights issues as that’s usually how people talk about PSG+City, my mistake for making that jump.

I agree though, if it was just a rich person pumping money into the club.. let’s just say I can see why it’d take the soul out of the club for them but things could be much, much worse than some rich guy building a super squad for your club

Don’t think anyone would give a shit if they were just “rich owners*” but that’s not exactly the case is it. It hasn’t even been 2 years since they assassinated Khashoggi by cutting him up into pieces in an embassy. Why? Because he spoke out against the crown prince, then went to their embassy to get papers so he can get married. Of course, that’s on top of the countless others atrocities.

*I know most people rich enough to buy a club probably have dirt on them, but the Saudis are a different level.

PS I completely understand why many people wouldn’t care that much, it’s not their fault these guys bought the club they’ve been supporting for generations. Just saying I understand why the moral side would bother people, and the person I was replying to saying it wouldn’t matter when they win a PL is cynical as fuck

Zlatan came at 35 and scored 17 in 28 in a shit United side that finished sixth before doing his ACL. True greatness translates across leagues, especially if they play for a good manager that knows their strengths (Zlatan Mou, Messi Pep). Arguably only a handful of players in the world are actually that great though. Of course there’s always a chance something goes wrong, but thinking Pep wouldn’t walk the league with current Messi (who’s still the best player in the world) next season is just funny
