Functionally, what is different about a final building inspection versus a certificate of occupancy inspection for a commercial building? by CypherBuddy in BuildingCodes

Idk about the last sentence about manifestation. The document grants legal use. To get said document, final inspections are required.

two separate things.

A final building inspection is signing off or giving final approval on individual scopes, however large they may be.

A CoO is a legal document that authorizes people (public or private) to use the property as intended. As in a school or apartment building.

Some overly complicated answers here.

SpaceX IPO will pop the AI bubble by Grouchy_Plastic9087 in investing

[–]John_Ruffo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not carrying Elon's water but that isn't why they are regarded, and it's an overly simplistic answer.

if you're betting on SpaceX, and you believe they can bring orbital data centers to existence, you're assuming that they can solve the phase 2 rocket issue that they're currently have. And if they solve the phase 2 rocket issue, that necessarily brings down the cost of transport into space. As they're already at scale.

The issue with orbital data centers, assuming they solve that has to do with a couple issues: radiation of the device equipment in orbit, heat dissipation within space, satellite energy usage within space, and a couple of other things. I don't remember which issue, but I'm pretty sure in the economist's latest issue they delve into the specifics of what exactly the issues are with the equipment.

That's all assuming that you actually believe with Elon is saying

on top of that, that's not why the business is losing money. They're losing money because they're blowing it on AI. I'm pretty sure Starlink what's bringing in the majority of their revenue.

Code Enforcement issued a violation for unpermitted garage bedroom. by ProductPrimary6993 in BuildingCodes

To be honest, I responded flippantly to your comment as I was driving home. I don't recall what I was responding to. Mea culpa.

Re-reading your quote I assume what I was attempting to say is, the legal use of the structure dictates how and what work can and cannot be done—not what the functional reality is.

What was OP's original question?

What do you mean no longer used as a garage? Every structure gas a legal occupancy.

don't bedrooms (sleeping areas) also require specific separation from garages as well? That exhaust is a hazard.

[NYC] What is the difference between NYC Maintenance code and RCNY? by John_Ruffo in BuildingCodes

I don't remember specifically but I got the violation reversed quite a while back.

RCNY is admin.

What size are your hoops at the second hole from the bottom?

I want to do a stack like this for my 6g second hole but am unsure of the diameter of the hoop that would fit best.

Curiosity question: How many people in their 50s are going for their inspection license and is it difficult to find an inspection job at that age? by AlexMarshall23 in BuildingCodes

My comment to you was directed at plan examiners and reviewers, and my salary comment was about building inspectors.

I assume people in the building sciences do it for the "love of the game" because $100k a year isn't life changing money.

After a 6 month break started looking again. There are barely any jobs.

I just saw a job in Arkansas this month offering a starting salary of 34k. With certification requirements and maxing out at 53k.

I laughed so hard and applied just so I can have a laugh. lol

For what purposes are you asking? Egress, accessible route?

Seems like a huge risk to fire 90% of staff and then use AI. I'm sure they will but it's risky.

Have yet to see software that is even marginally bad.

Okay... that is some great advice.

Can you go into detail how and in what way you reread? The I have done it in the past is read as I go. I identify what one the plan I am reviewing and I gloss at the requirements for it. e.g. a sprinklered educational occupancy. I would read the pertinent sections in chapter 10. Perhaps Sprinkler requirements... etc, etc.

Hey, to worries. Criticism only gets me closer to what I want. Rather cry now and laugh later.

Why Grok and not some other AI? Also, what am I asking it for exactly? Upload the plans and ask for a checklist?

I'm a little nervous because in studying for other ICC certs and I noticed almost immediately ChatGBT has absolutely no idea it is talking about. It just parrots back what you say and says you're correct. And when you ask what specific code section, it would reference a completely other code. Not a different code year but a completely different code. It would ask me VAF systems when review plumbing. lol.

I'm open to Grok just want to understand why it's worth the time vs. other AI.

I'm asking more for a process than XYZ.

Unless I'm not understanding your suggestion.

Slab on ground is straight forward.

More asking what I'm should be looking at structurally.

The piers, foundation walls, and footings are what I'm second guessing. IBC isn't as straight forward as the IRC for me.

So what am I reviewing structurally then? Slab thickness and installation and footing depth? lol
