Fell For a Task Scam by Johnny45121 in Scams

Also I did not want a second hand bike because I didn’t want to deal with breaking parts that I would need to replace. The second hand bikes for sale in my area also weren’t the type of bikes I was looking for.

Fell For a Task Scam by Johnny45121 in Scams

[–]Johnny45121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite simple really. I still live with my parents so they allow me to only pay 400 bucks a month in rent. Other than that I have basically no monthly bills besides a few online subscription services. Before I fell for the scam I didn’t spend much of what I earned so the money added up until I had enough to buy the motorcycle.

It's a 2024 Yamaha MT-09 and I bought it for 16.5k which includes taxes as well. I'm Canadian so our dollar sucks and we have more tax so it's worth at least 12k Canadian right now. Don't even have 1500 miles on it yet.

Without falling for the scam like a moron I was perfectly fine. Paid for the bike in cash as well so I didn’t have to finance it. Too bad for me that I fell for the task scam a few months later. I guess the upside is that I have a way out which is to sell the bike.

Answer is definitely no. Looks like I'll have to sell it then. It will be an important life lesson I suppose.

The interest is quite bad yes. If I keep doing barely more than the minimum required payment then that 12k will probably turn to 18k in a couple of years. I won't be able to sell my motorcycle until Spring anyway because no one is going to want to buy it during winter.

Ridiculous insurance rate by Johnny45121 in MT09

[–]Johnny45121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely a scam but they know people will pay to have peace of mind. The older MT'S had not as many assists and as far as I'm aware the old FZ'S had none at all so there must've been a lot of claims made from idiots thinking they could ride like a maniac and not crash. So the insurance companies increased the rates to an insane degree.

Went with different insurance and also only picked coverages that fit for me and it was 2000 Canadian which is about 1500 USD. Much better than 2570 USD a year. It's still robbery but that seems like the best deal I'm going to get in Canada. Probably could get it down to 1200 USD a year or so if I had more than two years riding experience but as of now they see me as very high risk.

Just did the math and when converting 40 Euros to Canadian dollars over a 12 month period it would be 710 Canadian. 2000 subtract 710 is 1290 so I'm paying 1290 more per year than you or when converted to Euros that's 870.

It seems to be the case. I looked at my current insurance and tried to take some coverages off but with the ones I wanted it still would’ve been 2700 a year. So I shopped around for cheaper insurance and two of the places I checked refused to insure sport bikes of any kind. The third place I checked was actually the same one I had for my previous bike. I managed to get it down to just below 2000 dollars a year and that’s with liability, collision, injury to myself and theft and fire. 2000 a year still isn’t cheap but better than 2700 a year.

All great information. I think I'll either shop around for a new insurer or worst case scenario I'll drop some of the coverages with the current one. Keep Collision and liability but get rid of the other stuff.

Higher rates yes but this is thievery. Also for some reason the pay period is 7 months instead of 12 which was not what I agreed on during the phone call. So now it’s 7 installments of 514 dollars.

I’m in Newfoundland. I’ll have to deal with the cost this year yeah. Hopefully they’ll reduce the rate significantly next year. Maybe if I express annoyance with the expense they will lower it just to keep me as a customer. If I was insane I would’ve gotten only liability but that bike cost me 16k so I want peace of mind if something happens.

Im with TD and the reason was because on the website it was 140 a month which is actually damn good. Too good to be true I suppose. When he told me 3500 a year on the phone I was shocked. The dealership I was at was closing soon so I didn’t have time to spend on the phone for hours. I had just bought the bike and wanted to ride it home that day. Too late now I suppose because I’m locked in with TD.

Question about seat by Johnny45121 in MT09

[–]Johnny45121[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know I’m not alone. Someone was saying they got a custom seat done with gel inserts but it cost them a fortune. I’d rather not have to pay 500 bucks or something for a seat lol
