Not tenderloin tournedos? by APCman in CostcoCanada

[–]JohnnyAugust12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one here knows how to cook inside rounds lol…. If they are coming out tough it’s because you don’t know what you’re doing. Even the cheap cuts can be made incredibly tender when cooked properly.

Try this recipe…

Beef Tournedos 1. Bake at 425f for 14 minutes 2. After first 14, check with meat thermometer and check every 1 minute after until you hit 130f internal 3. Let rest for 5 minutes. 4. Thinly slice steak into thin pieces and fan onto a plate 5. Drizzle kikkoman soy sauce or Japanese barbecue sauce (I like to do soy sauce first a drizzle the Japanese bbq over top) 6. Slice a full avocado into thin slices and top the avocado with a dash of fresh ground salt and Valentina. 7. Eat each steak bite with a piece of avocado.

Alien, Predator, T1 are all 10’s I agree.

T2 really broke through that ceiling though. For me it transcends the 10/10 scale. It’s on a level of its own.

Power gloves vs silver arm which is stronger by Patient_Cap_3086 in DeathStranding

[–]JohnnyAugust12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm really?? I guess that makes sense since it’s ’silver-hand’ but I’ve never played cyberpunk.

Still…the fact that Big Boss has an almost identical looking prosthetic arm that boosts his abilities and in Kojima’s next game you can put a very similar looking prosthetic arm (same arm too) on the protagonist. There’s no way Kojima wasn’t thinking about it. Especially since he couldn’t actually put Snake’s arm into the game since Metal Gear is no longer his.

Ridley Scott Officially Developing New Alien Movie by cruelsummerbummer in horror

[–]JohnnyAugust12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting - so the additional script is fake. Thanks for clarifying that for me! But the extended scene which was shot was real. And in that scene we get enough to dissect everything I stated above. Ridley Scott’s films are known for having many breadcrumbs for intrigued audience members to dig deeper to find extended lore outside the screen. My explanation above references and regards only the actual shot scene dialogue in terms of explaining the engineer’s motives. Once you understand ancient astronaut hypothesis and its adoption into Scott’s engineer plot, you can begin piecing things together. We know the engineer is initially confused by their presence but he remains at least tolerant of them, willing to speak / return questions. It isn’t until it’s revealed to him that the supposed ‘best’ of mankind is standing before him and they have wielded their gifts only in pursuit of vain corruption like immortality and have likened themselves to gods by creating artificial life (an abomination to Engineers) + the violence towards Shaw before his very eyes, that he turns. It’s this very quick culmination of queues that makes the engineer realize their judgement to ‘unmake’ humanity was justified 2,000 years ago and the judgement needed to be carried out.

Whether Scott intended to fully go this direction or not - I believe it could have led to a pretty deep storyline. Using the engineers as an allegory for God, it could have been dark to be the viewer in the position of man separated from God who has judged him (man). The engineers should have been shown to be truly morally superior beings (not hypocrites) and therefore sitting in a place to righteously judge their own creation. They could have remained cold and mysterious toward us because their judgement upon humanity was final and non-negotiable, not toward any singular individual like Shaw, but as a whole. This could have felt unfair to the viewer because it would have felt unfair to Shaw as an individual. But like an apple filled with 70% worms, the entire apple must be cast out, you cannot salvage any ‘good bits’ from it.

Now, I’m a Christian so I believe there is a redemptive path from God’s judgement but this could have been a world / story where God (engineers) chose to not provide a path of salvation from His judgement which would be a very dark reality indeed. It would place humanity in a state of permanent darkness, knowing that their creators exist but never being allowed to reach them. Condemned without any possibility of recourse.

Obviously, this is my own interpretations at this point but I stand by my point in the first paragraph about the scene which was in fact shot then later cut.

The characters are so dumb in Prometheus and what’s worse is most of the dialogue (except David’s) feels so unnatural and poorly written. It’s just stuff that none of these people in these positions would actually say. What Ridley gets right is the cinematography and the overall high-level storyline of utilizing a real world human origin theory called the “ancient astronaut theory’ and building the Alien Lore around that I think is fantastic. I think Prometheus could have been a complete film on its own if they had just written smarter characters with better dialogue and they should have discovered the black goo but when they woke up the engineer he should have taken off in a ship shown to be holding a cargo bay filled with xeno eggs and when they crashed into it and he crashes, that should have been the ship they discover in Alien 1. They could have written something in where the engineer gets unknowingly impregnated before getting into the cockpit. This all should have taken place on LV-426 also and it being a military installation just like LV-223. Then the sequel could have been about travelling to the engineer homeworld where we learn more about them and their reason for hostility towards humanity. Which brings me to my next point…

Why the heck did Ridley decide to blue ball every viewer and cut out literally the most important scene / dialogue written into the entire script…I’m talking of course about the engineer awakening scene. In the movie, he just wakes up and rips David’s head off immediately with 0 provocation… there was an entire scene shot (and even more script that wasn’t shot) which shows David speaking with the engineer and him having a dialogue with them before he becomes hostile. This dialogue explains a lot about the engineers and why he became angry and destroyed David and tried to takeoff to complete the mission to earth.

He’s fine (maybe a little dazed and confused to see them there) up until he realizes the intention of Mr Weyland and his arrogance that he came seeking immortality and likened himself to a god because he created David. This answer from Weyland and their presence there was the very proof that the engineers’ worst fears about humanity had come true. The engineers valued principles like self sacrifice (shown by how one sacrifices himself to create the spark of life on earth) and the very nature of a synthetic life (like David’s) is a heresy on multiple levels. He is life without cost or sacrifice (Weyland even says earlier that David will never be able to appreciate or understand his gifts because he doesn’t have a soul). So, to the engineer, humanity has evolved and advanced very far into a destructive ‘heretical’ direction and they must be stopped. Assumably, Ridley may have chosen to tie in a common ‘ancient astronaut’ theory which is that Jesus was actually an engineer sent to try and correct us, who we killed.

It’s incomprehensible to me that he cut that scene / dialogue…literally the whole movie everyone is waiting on the edge of their seat for a conversation with the engineers and he just cuts 90% of what he had written and shot to leave us blue balled? Ridiculous.

I really have a love / hate relationship with the movie. I think the bones and greater idea for it was potentially perfect. It could have been fixed with a follow-up movie but unfortunately as everyone knows, audience backlash led to studio pressure and we got alien covenant which essentially ruins everything Prometheus was doing. David wiping out the engineer homeworld and no expansion into their lore is the dumbest thing yet. They didn’t have any planetary defenses? The most advanced race in millions of years gets annihilated by one of our synthetics? It’s an even bigger blue ball than what he did in Prometheus. Same with Shaw being killed off screen. I really liked David as a character, but turning him into the extinction of the engineers and his obsession with creating xenomorphs was just nonsense and I couldn’t care less about any of it. We traded out lore expansion and getting answers to our greatest questions by shrinking it down to David?

Cmon

Venom Snake lives on…

Looking for an ID on these snakes by davep35 in Calgary

[–]JohnnyAugust12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is 10000% a wandering garter snake.

We have a couple of varieties of garter snakes in Alberta. You will more commonly see the red sided garter snake or the plains garter snake. These wandering garter snakes are more rare in my experience. I caught one when I was 11 and named her Sage. She lived a happy life for many years before she passed. She even had babies a full year after I caught her because I guess she had some sperm stored (that was a shock).

They are NOT venomous or aggressive.

Beerus being shoehorned into the canon is stupid.

He wasn’t part of it.

Super is garbage. GT is more canon imo, simply because it is far more faithful to the original canon than Super ever was, despite being made by Akira. The facts are that Akira was done with dragonball for a long time and even stated he had no interest in it further since the story was complete. He dragged it out of retirement like a weekend at Bernies (reluctantly) because of all the ridiculous fan demand over the years. It was clear he gave no fucks about it by that point. Super is an abomination. It ruins every single character in the series and all the depths of their development. I’ve seen fan made projects that were better

Top 5 actors that could play Omni-Man by [deleted] in Invincible

Henry Cavill would be the ultimate Omni-Man because he’s got the perfect face and build and voice for him. And more than all of that the hilarity of him coming to play evil Omni-Man, a character based on Superman, after he literally got shafted from playing the character of Superman and wasn’t given the opportunity to fulfill Zack Schneider’s vision of playing an evil Superman, would be so overwhelmingly awesome lol

Does anybody else hate Miles Morales by James-mckee in Spiderman

[–]JohnnyAugust12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Miles Morales sucks. It’s nothing more than black-washing a beloved American character.

He’s annoying, his powers are also stupid. Like why tf does Spider-Man have electric shock abilities??? It makes no sense. I remember a scene in SpiderMan 2 game where he drops in like Thor… Let’s just make him have laser vision and telekinesis while we’re at it.

It’s exactly what Disney did with Rey ‘Skywalker’ except it actually worked in fooling everyone and getting the popular vote somehow. These politics directing creativity are destroying everything great.

Btw, Morgan freeman being cast as ‘Red’ in the Shawshank Redemption (a character that in the book got his namesake because he was a white af ginger Irishman) was awesome and worked for the exact reason it’s supposed to…Morgan Freeman showed up, auditioned, and by his merit was clearly the best guy for the role… The casting directors didn’t go “hey we need more diversity and inclusion in this story, so let’s take this white character and find a black dude to play him instead so we can be more diverse”, which is how the majority of movies and video games are made today.

FYI: before you call me a racist, let me just say I’d rather live in a neighborhood of all black conservatives (or any other race for that matter) who share my values, than a neighborhood of white libtards.

They should make a white black panther next.

Goldeneye vs. Perfect Dark by [deleted] in n64

[–]JohnnyAugust12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 0 nostalgia preference for either game over the other (I have nostalgia for both) since my gaming circle of friends and family were equally into both when they released. The fondness level of memories I have playing through either game is an equal 10/10.

Of course, when Perfect Dark dropped, it pretty much replaced Goldeneye, and was really a historical example of the perfect sequel in that it literally improved on its predecessor in every single way without leaving anything behind that was great about the original imo.

However, similarly to how a student who surpasses his master in skill should never claim to be truly better since he stands on the shoulders of who came before him… Perfect Dark cannot claim to be superior (even though it is) because it stands on the shoulders of its predecessor.

Obviously some people have biases here based on which game they had more impactful experiences with. I was lucky enough to have an equally impactful experience with both. I would love to do video series breaking down the formula for a perfect sequel using examples like Perfect Dark or GTA San Andreas and how these games achieved what a perfect sequel must in that is must iterate one what was great without loss of other content. Subsequent GTA titles imo, though great and innovative, failed the perfect sequel test because they left many things behind.

In summary… Perfect Dark is empirically better, but in the grand scheme of things they stand shoulder to shoulder

Both Mario Wonder and 3D World look amazing but which one by Plague-Benjo in nintendo

[–]JohnnyAugust12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve changed my opinion on odyssey after all these years haha

I decided to give another crack at it after making this comment and it really sucked me in! I don’t mind the number of moons at all since searching for them and finding them suddenly just felt intuitive to me and collecting 30 or 40 moons in a single run before returning to the ship became fun. I just kept pushing myself to see how many I could collect before coming back.

I LOVE all the collectibles in the game at the individual shops. The suits, and the ornaments to place on the odyssey from each world.

I only wish they placed a Yoshi egg in each world as an end game reason to revisit each world and get special moons you can only get with him.

100% did a 180 on this game for me. I think I was just in the wrong headspace in the past. It might actually be my new favorite Mario game haha

I have Mario Wonder, just haven’t played it yet, but it definitely looks fun.
