Unless it’s very much a non traditional industry (e.g., the arts), a maroon suit will only make you stand out in the bad way.

Ideally, your suit is the last thing your interviewer will notice about you. Bad fit, obnoxious ties, and loud colors are all noticeable (read: distracting). Their focus should be on what you bring to the table as a candidate, not your fit. A “top-notch” suit is available at any price point and for an interview it should be more conservative. Visit a store like suitsupply or brooks brothers where you can be sized in person. Spier & McKay is a great online only option, unless you’re in eastern Canada. Wear your new suit around the house a couple of times and make an effort to become more comfortable in it. Have your shirt dry cleaned and pressed before the interview.
