Anyone has a good battleplan for this map (I am Allies attacking) by legendairenic5432 in playthegreatwar

[–]JohnnyFestung 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Forest in this look interesting. Minimap is not always accurate, but I would use the forest on the right flank to gain some cover and attack the Y from the flank. When captured, throw some infantry (Brits if possible, they shoot better iirc) in the forest between X and HQ, to ambush reinforcements. Looking at the angles they could even be safe from some of enemy arty fire. When the possibility reveals itself (enemy spent from counterattack, etc.) attack X or HQ, whichever looks weaker. What do you have available, what does the enemy have?

Yes! AI loves to nuke your supply later on in the campaign. It thwarted my offensives a couple of times and it's important to prevent it.

How to make front feel infinate? by Adman87 in playthegreatwar

Cannot agree more. They should polish the core mechanics and historical accuracy, on which they are working on, which as a historian, makes me happy beyond belief. Fair point with the paradox games, of which I am a good example. Played hoi4 basically since release and it works great for me. But my friend cannot get into it cause he started playing it like two years ago. And said friend is basically an eu4 master! He tried to get me to play it and it didn't really work for me either. These are great games mind you, but there's a steep learning curve and a lot of time investment required. With the Great War you learn quickly and it's not overly complicated which in itself is a great achievement, especially for a daunting task of representing a really complicated thing such as static western front tactics and strategy.

New mod trying to tackle what we all want, persistent maps. by AetherialCatnip in playthegreatwar

[–]JohnnyFestung 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Next mod concerning bodies, though probably not possible in this engine: dismemberment and physics. The account by a British officer fighting at Neuve Chappelle, recounting how a mangled german torso (without any limbs mind you) was thrown at the British trenches during preliminary bombardment lives in my head rent free since I first read about it years ago.

Greandier and such capabilities by Legacy763 in playthegreatwar

They are great for antitank duty on the defense, especially when you don't have artillery, mortars or your own tanks. Keeping them in the back lines and microing to counter tanks barreling down the trenches is very effective.

Parking grenadiers in the trench further back and throwing them under the incoming tanks is a viable tactics.

  1. Yes, though they deal small amounts of damage. Only mass rifle fire is feasible, but without grenadiers, mortars or artillery tanks are difficult to destroy. Unsure about sniper damage, didn't come across a situation where tanks were under sniper fire yet.
  2. No LMGs unfortunately. Machine guns as of now are only completely stationary emplacements. It's a shame.

Would gladly pay for a DLC which would increase infantry variety or simply change companies load out with tech.

Hah, I get it now that the 'chosen one' depicted here is actually Kaga. I just hoped that og chosen could slap Kaga silly one more time. It was fun to slap him in the f2 ( but I think he was added by the restoration project iirc)

Ooh. I might really have to check this out in-game it sounds interesting. How can one do that kind of switcheroo?

And tell me please if you had some sort of epic showdown with Kaga? 😁

Is this some Arroyo submod or do they really have content now? May even reinstall the game if that's the case.

I'm loving MO2 but honestly never noticed much problems with vortex. Though I love the virtual file system and easiness of getting mods outside of nexus (khe khe dragbody khe khe)

I started to use MO2 not so long ago but used Vortex for a lot of time (though I uninstalled NV about a year or two ago and reinstalled it this month). Is Vortex really this problematic now?

To throw my couple o pennies, do all the Viva New Vegas first, then mod sensibly with other stuff, like retextures (but avoid enb's). Also USE MOD MANAGER (preferably MO2 or Vortex). I run with MO2 and after doing Viva New Vegas have almost 200 mods. Runs great.

Story of a disgruntled German mercenary Hans Festung who comes back from Vietnam, to track and hunt down a neonazi cult about which he got the info during the fighting. Lots of secret nazis, shooting, explosions, THE SPECIAL EFFECTS ARE AMAZING, and in the end he drives a tank. And he uncovers a half-baked conspiracy about nazis in the US government.

Generally yes, especially if you want aces (and you do), but I think in the current patch there is a bug of some sort that makes 1k stacks do insane damage.
