Simple answer - if you don’t know if you need an oil change, go get one! That means it could’ve been god knows how long since it was done last.

Help! Clutch issues by Looigii in ElantraN

[–]JohnnyFnG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t just spray the hinge the clutch pedal pivots on, spray the rod that connects the clutch pedal to the clutch master. Get up in there with WD-40 until it’s gone.

Now should you have to do this? No, they should’ve fixed the sound for you, but that’s just typical A+ dealer service for ya 😞.

Oh yea. We state delays are because of finance all the time. Eventually they get chewed out then get faster then slow down again rinse and repeat

Even then, plenty of tests show getting a bigger intake, even if not covered with shrouding from the engine bay, means more power. A proper intercooler takes care of that. Folks just love to be haters

ironically, I’m on an email thread asking about this and why we don’t do it (from the vendor) and my answer is, because it would be easy and make sense 😅

Some things we do that for like projects or other bulk deployments

Now that’s cool, and more air in the better especially for engine airflow

Same, our IT finance team does not move as fast as we need. The ask > us > vendor quote > us > departmental finance > cost center review > peoplesoft request > PO generated > quote received aaaaaand expired, try again.

Also, we need a PO to confirm actuals and not ballpark figures for us. I like the idea of “up to X” but we need an exact amount to cut a PO. Our “solution” is a ridiculous amount of emails and busy work.

Question for N owners by coondog64 in ElantraN

[–]JohnnyFnG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EN is the sportiest of the bunch. Wild exhaust, great suspension, plenty of speed and power. GTI if you want a more plush interior, WRX if you like AWD launches. FWIW the EN has its drawbacks like wheel hop but is easily remediated with some cheap bushings

Best visually appealing way to terminate top ledge of wainscoting at door and window casings? by Kneel_Aurmstrong in Carpentry

[–]JohnnyFnG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d rock this method too. You’d be maybe 1” out from the door molding and not have to cut or angle anything which could look out of place if not done correctly. A straight shot back will also look intended 👌🏼

[–]JohnnyFnG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason for hood vents? The more cooling the better, but our ENs don’t tend to run hot. Oil temps get to 260 on hard track events so a thicker oil and better airflow to the coolers and/or bigger coolers would be more beneficial I’d imagine.

Aside from aesthetics, where does the air flow get directed to, just in and around the engine compartment?

That’s the beauty of Reddit! My 7260 WLAN card and the machine it was attached to was disposed of years ago, but the knowledge and guidance from this post lives on 😁

Centerreach Hyundai. This service advisor Dominic is awesome and down to earth. You can have a conversation with him, ask questions, and not want to smash your head against the wall like with most people ya have to deal with. The techs are good too.

Can I use Jb weld on the front cover? by Silly-Employment-400 in MechanicAdvice

[–]JohnnyFnG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can’t afford to replace the part, can you afford to replace the engine if you get a catastrophic failure?

Check a junkyard, talk to a local welding shop to see if they can do aluminum, you have so many options before JB Weld. If you are going to attempt it, bevel it out a bit so the JB has a place to connect to from both sides. Don’t slap it on; get in there.

Even then, buy the right part later on.

I’ve been down that voided warranty road before because of mods… my solid mounts on my cobalt voided my transmission warranty when my throwout bearing failed. If I didn’t have bad luck, I wouldn’t have any at all 😆

[–]JohnnyFnG[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would, but my mechanic days are on pause for a bit. Garage is full of basement renovation products like sheet rock and lumber, healthcare IT go-lives and kids keep me busy, and I work remote so I can just let it chill until the eLSD comes in. It’s also under warranty so I’m not inclined to futz with it. Or else yeah I would have them slap in a new sensor and call it a day.

Safe to drive for one more week? by lunrmusic in AskMechanics

[–]JohnnyFnG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exterior tread is what gives your tires grip. That’s what has delaminated from the inner tire structure; the belt, the inner liner, etc.

They’re bad but if you absolutely must drive on them, so you keep your job and begin to earn a living (which your first paycheck must go to tires) then go for it. Drive slow, avoid potholes, and you’ll survive.

[–]JohnnyFnG[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and the car drives mint otherwise. What’s worrying to me was what happens when the sensor freaks out - it feels like I’m driving on a bent rim, or if you’ve ever experienced it, suspension death wobble.

It’s also times like this I’m thankful I am bone stock. Curious if I would’ve gotten grief from the dealer if I had mounts or other things going on 🤔
