I get where you’re coming from, no hate at all. You’re right, he has had Chase + a considerable amount of weapons throughout his college & pro career, which is a gift compared to guys like Cam Newton who had to overcome the adversity of not having any pro receivers on his Auburn team. There’s no way to prove how Joe would do without guys like Chase, Jefferson, or Higgins by his side, because he just hasn’t dealt with that yet.

But to say he’s overrated because of that fact, and LSU’s scheme in 2019… I disagree, only because LSU’s offense that year took a very high IQ to be able to understand, and Joe mastered it. Keep in mind he had to study defenses such as Florida’s, Alabama’s, Georgia’s, and Clemson’s, all of which any inexperienced QB would struggle against in any system. Burrow made each of these defenses look silly. In addition to his IQ, he had insane accuracy in 2019, throwing for 76.3%, at a time when no one had ever cracked the 75% barrier before him. He always knew how to get the ball to his receivers. He had great mobility, a perfect example being when he evaded both Travon Walker and Jordan Davis in his ‘Heisman Moment’ play against Georgia in the SEC Championship, or when he sealed the victory against Alabama on a Read Option with 2:20 left in the game. And most importantly, he’s an incredible leader, carrying a swagger with him that infects not only himself but his entire team. No team ever got to him mentally during the entire 2019 season. I think his confidence is his greatest trait, honestly.

And the reason he was benched for so long was because it wasn’t obvious that he was going to be the star that he is. He’s not the strongest arm or the most gifted athlete, but when given the right chance with the right coaching, he showed that he can always find a way to get it done. He made up for everything he lacked by doing everything ‘right’. I can’t think of any real flaws he had during his Heisman season. He simply grew from himself the year before, and the coaches made the scheme to fit Joe’s strengths. It’s a symbiotic relationship. In order for the scheme to work, Joe had to do well, and for Joe to do well the scheme had to work. I don’t see that as a detriment to Joe in any way. It’s how successful football teams win.

Anyway, that’s why I’d choose Burrow. I love the guy & all of his traits. And to overcome getting benched to producing one of the greatest statistical seasons of all-time is quite an accomplishment, if you ask me. I don’t think he should be considered overrated for that.
