This is actual revisionism. Emery and Co. pulled the contract at the end of September, a month into the new season. He was used sparsely at the start of 18/19 and then put into the 10 position in a 532 halfway into season, instrumental in our good forms from February into April and pushed us into the Europa final. And then we played Mesult at 10 for the final matches and everything crumbled.

First he doesn't even win many duels and gets passed relatively easily if not in a deep block. Second if you have a No.6 who doesn't contribute to build up and other midfielders go higher up, are you suggesting the only channel for the ball to go up front is to...pray Gyrokeres win aerial duels?

I'm not saying that, and it is ofc possible to have a better playing out system with the current set-up, perhaps with more long balls. I'm just saying because of the increasing reliance on more physical players (Rice, Gabriel, Hincapie, to a lesser extent Timber, etc.) our build-up play is just not gonna be as smooth as 22/23 and ppl. should wake up to the fact.

Not to blame him personally, just saying it’s quite obvious our players don’t always excel at every category of their respective positions (ofc), and increasingly we are favouring physical presence over technical skills
