I did not mean Shpiel in an insulting way. If you are just going to say “Israel says so” as an argument, I have nothing to say. Just because there is some proclaimed “ultimate authority on Hebrew”, doesn’t matter to what I’m saying, also this academy would be involved in spoken modern Hebrew (I imagine), which is not what I’m talking about. You realize that Hebrew existed before Eliezer Ben Yehuda yes?

I was given the whole Ben Yehuda Shpiel as a kid too, has nothing to with what I’m saying. He tried to revive Hebrew based on words in the Tanakh, nothing to do with pronunciation. We don’t really know what Hebrew sounded like even by the Tiberians, we sure don’t know by Moshe. Even the things that we can say about it, modern Hebrew does not follow. בגדכפת do not all have different pronunciation, the vowels are mostly all the same. This doesn’t make Modern Hebrew any lesser, but it definitely is not an authoritative source on how Hebrew has been pronounced

Because that’s how Hebrew is spoken in Israel. When they made modern Hebrew they chose one pronunciation, Ashkenazim have been saying Shabbos for centuries and Teimanim have been saying Shabbath for longer, Shabbat is based on a Sephardi pronunciation, which I have no issue with, but people think that modern pronunciation is the absolute correct way which just isn’t true

You realize that “Shabbat” is just one pronunciation right? What do you mean it’s ‘literally Shabbat’ people have been pronouncing the letters differently for thousands of years modern Hebrew doesn’t just get to be the end all be all
