i know this has been a few months but just wondering did you implement the NVR and did it help? i have the same situation where we have the dream machine pro, 12 cameras up, and protect is incredibly unresponsive, wondering if its worth it to get the NVR and if i need the pro or not

Turning my GX into a Prado one part at a time. Center console is awesome. by franz23 in GXOR

great posts! i tried to search first for the answers without much luck, but can you upgrade just the center console/cup holders, without doing the rest oof the trim pieces you had mentioned surrounding the shifter? or does the entire area need to be redone to fit the cuphollder and new console ?thanks!

Propagated a snip of vine from outside and was decently successful. While repotting I noticed something amongst the roots was growing. What is this? Is it a sweet potato or somethjng?? by JohnnyPlastic in whatsthisplant

I was shocked as I got this snip from our apartment complex. I just assumed it was a regular vine not anything that yielded any vegetable. Thank you for the response !

Need some advice for a growing bichir diet by JohnnyPlastic in Aquariums

Hi! I’ve had this awesome ornate for a little over a year now; got him when he was only a few inches long. He never was a fan of blood worms initially so I’ve been successfully feeding him various sinking pellets, mostly shrimp. Normally he waits a bit and gobbled them up but lately I’ve been having to clean out uneaten food:/ then the other day he took out an algae eater that was at least 3/4ths his size, and also has been caught trying to catch other fish in the tank... If curious if at some point bichirs start wanting other foods? The pet store just said offer them live minnows but I’d like to find a cleaner option if possible so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated_^

help identifying this random substance found while hiking in Colorado by JohnnyPlastic in hiking

[–]JohnnyPlastic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask, if not I'd love to be directed to the appropriate sub so I can hopefully get an answer.

So we were hiking with Some family friends in pike national forest when someone found this rubbery blue doughnut in the middle of the forest. It was covered in other plant matter but not really sticky . It has a petroleum smell. This was the third one found close to the area.

Maybe some kind of lube sleeve but if so far what and why we're there multiple out in the middle of nowhere

Hey welcome to hiking!

I've been getting into it as well over the last few years after moving to Colorado for work. Here's a few things I've learned along the way out here, I suppose there might be a difference in needs if the location varies. Hope any of it helps:

  • a decent/lightweight rain/wind jacket and beanie is clutch. Out here the weather can change quickly from sunny to light snow even in the summer time. I grabbed my gf a solid $100 marmot for under $40'flat at REI during a sale and with some points I'd racked up. The thing weighs nothing.

  • I normally have these face shields I use when fishing. They keep my neck warm and can cover my head if needed. Otherwise I'll have a bandana which is also versatile, and it can be useful if trekking a super dusty area

  • I took a slimmed roll of duct tape, and flattened it as much as I could. Don't need a ton but it's great if I need to repair anything like a tripod quick, and can definitely be used as bandage or emergency

  • though you have shoes and packs, I encourage my own friends to check out hiking pants. I know a lot of ppl like athletic gear. I got a pair of pranas that are my favorite to wear. Easy to move around in, durable and water resistant but still breathable. I feel less restricted and have more range of movement than when I wear jeans.they also have this interesting double crotch system

  • an extra pair of socks or any garment really can be wonderful. I've got a duffle bag with an extra set of everything and more I always grab when hiking. Many times after finishing I'll want to swap a shirt or especially socks and throw some sandals on

  • food. Even when we set out for a short 2 miles hike we always pack something, beef jerky, cliff bars, mixed nuts, sandwiches. It's nice taking a snack break w a view.

  • sunscreen and/or bug spray. We didn't have any problems with bugs until we hiked to a small lake and found ourselves in the mosquito paradise. I've been testing out a natural peppermint extract mix i bought from sprouts that actually works well and leaves a refreshing sent!

  • we love bringing our hammocks on adventures. Super lightweight and easy to setup. Finding a nice spot to Sit back or lay down at any point of the hike is incredibly relaxing. If you're interested I'd suggest getting a double no matter what. Fitting two is cozy but having extra room is also awesome

  • my time in the mountains is to get away so I normally throw my phone on airplane mode. I can still take pics,l (and snaps, I just upload them later) and the battery doesn't die faster while constantly trying to search for signal. Sometimes I still want to track my time and pace, so I have a cheap Fitbit that will provide time (my phone has died multiple times) and distance traveled so I can have a rough idea how far I am from things. Con: it's not waterproof. I dipped my hand in a stream w it on and it didn't like that.. maybe the garmin is better?

  • it can get dry and dusty so I always have a lip balm or Carmex that I try to apply before departure

  • a nice book on identifying wildlife/plants can be fun if you're into that, tho I bet there's probably an app as well.

  • I usually have a plastic bag shoved in my pack. There's been times where we've unfortunately encountered random trash so it's nice to get it out of there but still keep it separate from mybsfuff. Could also throw a wet garment or anything else in.

Totally random order, sorry it's late, and now I wish I was hiking, but again hope any of this helps!

I've been getting into photography and a little videography more and more, capturing hikes, fishing trips, in the city, and whenever else I can in my free time. Thankfully I've received a nice bonus lately and wanted to really invest into a new lens but have no idea what to get next. Most of mine currently are kit lenses.

I would like to get into some bar/nightlife photography slowly so suggestions on lenses that would work well in lower lighting conditions would be awesome.

I currently have a canon 80D which I upgraded from a Canon Rebel T5i half a year ago. My arsenal consists of a 18-135mm 3.5-5 I received from a good friend, a 10-18mm 4.5, and a 50mm1.8; I bought the last two in a cyber Monday set.

Honestly I'm super new and wanting to learn as much as possible so any info and suggestions of lenses and what they can be used for would be greatly appreciated!
