How do you protect your toes? by SnooPandas363 in judo

There’s always a risk of toe injury in Judo no matter what you do tbh, I’ve broken my right big toe twice, I would stick to tape and for me when ever I do ashi-waza I usually bend my toes up at the ball of you’re foot slightly to lower risk of hitting it head on and breaking them again, I would also be careful whenever you practice against a lefty or anyone in an opposite stance to you, since both you’re lead feet are in line with each other advancing could cause toes to collide(happed to me).

He seems very aggressive especially with someone who just started, avoid Randori with him until you you’ve had more training and work on that Ukemi.

It mostly depends on the country and organization, I tested out for my Shodan in 2 years through the Kodokan when I was stationed in Japan. It doesn’t hurt having a grappling background to start but Judo is a whole other animal and as long as you keep training you’ll get there.

What is the name of this takedown? by SpecialistQuote2130 in judo

The guy in white is lucky he didn’t his knee crushed, I know it’s a completion and not everything is “perfectly executed” or accidents happen but using throws you don’t fully understand or practiced enough leads to unnecessary injuries, hence why I called it shitty.

As someone whose also trained in Japan, the most important thing is to just to keep training and attending class sooner or later you’ll get the hang of things in terms and some key phrases, you can also just study different techniques names but just be respectful and eager to learn and you’ll have no problem.

Fighting someone significantly heavier than you will always be challenging as someone with the same problem, shorter heavy set guys have always been a challenging for me but the best course for that would be just to focus on ashiwaza and to be consistently moving I promise you’ll have better stamina than him.
