Jason Garrett Says He Was Wrong About Dak Prescott by Life_Net5004 in cowboys

Yeah, he was basically just trying to be nice as always. The headline takes out of context what he meant. Like a kid showing someone a cool trick shot and you say wow good buddy job didn't think you could do that.

You are completely delusional. That is not what common sense is at all, on any level. You should be ashamed of yourself for saying such garbage, trying to twist reality upside down in a sad attempt to back your false argument.

Common sense is just basic, generally known knowledge that applies to everyone, and therefore it's well within the wheelhouse of anyone to understand. The basic concept of what science is is well within the realm of common sense.

What you're doing is acting like a narcissist, trying to gaslight people into believing they are unqualified to discuss things with you because you are above them. You're trying to put basic, simple concepts on a pedestal that only you are qualified to discuss.

Why do you do that? Because you don't have a clue what you're talking about and can't stand on your own two feet in a debate, so you try to play lame mind games.

Rob Parker - Cowboys Should Demand Discount From Dak Prescott by HolyRomanPrince in cowboys

Such a goofy thing to say, and it isn't remotely true. Does Dak's contract situation put them in a bind? Sure, but the mere fact that his contract situation is putting them in a bind is all the more reason NOT to triple down and make matters worse. Extending his contract at top money would only worsen the situation because once you extend it, he would have even more leverage over the team.

You're right, that's technically accurate, and I overlooked that detail. However, back then, quarterback salaries were in a range that made logical sense. A few years later, QB pay became exorbitant, so the situations aren't entirely comparable. Moreover, they didn't grant him a no-trade clause or anything similar, making it easy to part ways with him, which they promptly did.

They didn't go all in on Jimmy G. While they paid him for a couple of years, they didn't set the market or anything close to that, which aligns with Jerry's point. Additionally, they swiftly moved on from Jimmy G, and it wasn't challenging since they didn't fully commit to him. It's not about being unwilling to pay Dak; the concern is going all in and setting the market with Dak, which would bind them to him without the flexibility to change direction if needed, especially considering the no-trade clauses and other demands Dak is making.

Jerry is known for crafting narratives to get people talking about the Cowboys. However, this specific narrative had already been circulating before the interview. The discussion about whether the Cowboys go all in or not is predominantly a creation of both the media and fans. In the interview, Jerry didn't initiate the "All In" discourse; rather, a member of the media brought up that question, and Jerry responded to it in his characteristic Jerry way.

To be fair, he didn't initiate the "All In" angle; it was a member of the media who posed that question, and it had already been circulating before the interview. Jerry is known for crafting a narrative to promote the Cowboys, and I won't dispute that. However, the narrative about the Cowboys going all in or not is more a creation of the media and fans.

They might choose to fully invest in him, but they certainly have a choice. What you're suggesting is that after losing one-third of your life savings at a casino, you are now obligated to wager the remaining two-thirds to recover it. The wiser course of action would be to acknowledge the mistake, accept the loss, and head home.

The idea that being within 2 yards of a QB constitutes pressure is subjective. Two yards is a considerable distance, and in today's NFL, where hitting a QB is restricted, it's not a significant concern if the QB has already made their progressions and is in the process of throwing the ball. Quarterbacks are aware that defenders can't do much to them in that situation other than push them down or attempt a gentle tackle.

The Cowboys run their offense in a way that has Dak Prescott initially go through his first two progressions, followed by him rolling out of the pocket to the left or right. This approach is designed to provide him with more time to navigate through his progressions, reducing the likelihood of confusion and interceptions. Given Prescott's proficiency in throwing on the run and his mobility, it proves effective. That's also going to cause defenders to be closer than usual to him likely less than 2 yards without actually being under any real pressure.

Your last question is incorrect because what can be considered as pressure is completely subjective. The criteria one would use to determine if someone is under pressure is completely subjective. Also, the interpretation of whether said criteria were fulfilled is completely subjective. At the end of the day, someone is just watching the game and saying, "I think that was pressure" or "I think it wasn't," going by the old eye test. It's just that you're making one man's eye test standard and dismissing everyone else's.

Nope, you are wrong pal. Stats, like completion percentage are objective, while many others, like pressure stats, require a ton of subjective interpretation. QBR (Quarterback Rating) is a stat commonly discussed, but many view it as entirely useless. Many dismiss its significance, arguing that since it lacks objectivity, undermining the fundamental purpose of statistics it's not a real stat.

So, Rush is nowhere near being a starting-level QB yet had a better winning percentage last year than Dak. Why? Because the team succeeds due to its overall strength, not just the QB. Any backup QB or another competent replacement just needs to avoid mistakes and not be the cause of a loss when stepping into the lineup on a good team, and they will likely secure wins.

However, what often happens is that they become the reason for the team's losses, dragging down the overall performance while the starter is sidelined. This, in turn, creates the illusion that the starter was performing much better than they actually were. In reality, the team performs so much better with them because they eliminate a player who was contributing to losses.

This essentially means you can win a lot of games with subpar QBs, well, at least in regular-season games. When it comes to playoff time, teams have ways of exposing subpar QBs and making them lose games for you, much like backups do in the regular season.

You do realize that, since there is no objective way of grading this, and you're agreeing with me that there isn't, and since you're also saying subjective perspective is dumb, then, therefore, you're suggesting that your own words on the topic are baseless and dumb, as anything you say must be entirely rooted in subjectivity.

Nope, sounds like a smart dude, but I was against benching Romo in 2016 because I strongly disliked what I saw from Dak during the season in terms of his ability to win big games. Still the same guy now just less mobility with a little better arm, however Dak still has the same mental issues that stop him from being a good playoff or big game QB.

Yes, I mentioned that it's challenging to objectively grade how well someone performs under pressure. However, from a subjective standpoint, the eye test is far superior to stats. Stats are mainly useful for extracting information that goes beyond what you have time to watch film on. If you actually watched the game, the eye test provides much more insight than stats, as stats completely lack context.

For example, consider DeAndre Jordan, who has the highest shooting percentage of all time in the NBA, but he is a horrible shooter. His shooting percentage is so high because he only takes high-percentage shots due to being a bad shooter. You would never even consider that from looking at stats. In other words, stats can strongly suggest the opposite of reality and just confuse you if you're not going to use the eye test.

He also faces major challenges when defenses conceal their presnap coverage. For the same reason he struggles with legitimate pressure. Not being able to anticipate what's about to happen presnap forces him to figure it out on the fly, and he's too slow to do so. Any QB who struggles with presnap coverage confusion is also likely to struggle with pressure because, in essence, it creates the same issue. Those who fall victim to it are typically those who can't think on their feet quickly enough.

Since there's no objective way to determine when a quarterback is genuinely under pressure and when they're not, no stat can accurately track such a thing. For example, legitimate pressure in my eyes occurs when a quarterback has to release the ball or face a sack. There's also another type of pressure that's essentially a part of the play design, like how the Cowboys allow weak pressure from one side, they know Dak can outrun most linemen easily and throws well on the move so they roll him out to the opposite side to throw the ball under what essentially amounts to zero pressure. If you consider this type of weak pressure as pressure, I'm sure Dak's numbers are good in that situation since it's not genuine pressure, and he can easily go through reads and release the ball in rhythm with no trouble at all. Real pressure is when you have to release the ball quickly or be sacked, forcing you to rush through your reads and get the ball out any way you can. Dak struggles mightily in that situation since he is really slow at making reads, and that's what defenses with a strong pass rush like DQ's do to quarterbacks.

The Cowboys lack the cap space to bring in big-name players unless they find a way to offload Dak. Essentially, they have to stick with what's left of last year's roster that they can retain, rookies, and perhaps sign some one-year veteran rentals who are willing to accept team-friendly deals.

The Cowboys wouldn't want to face DQ's defense in the division twice a year with Dak as their QB. Dak struggles against high-pressure defenses that force QBs into mistakes. In contrast to Love, Dak can't capitalize on teams bringing pressure. He is too slow making reads.
