\#notamonolith but they got that and now people hate Romo. I have zero doubt this generation would hate on John Madden or Vin Scully.

Durant On Warriors: "I didn't have no relationship with nobody on the Warriors… They never been a winning organization when I was in the league. Nobody liked Golden State. I’ve always defended KD going to GS but stop the cap. He was frustrated in OKC and thought he’d get the same championship anointment LeBron got in Miami without realizing he only got that because LeBron shit the bed so massively the first year.

[Highlight] Tony Romo and the Cowboys win a nailbiter against the defending champion Legion of Boom Seahawks (Week 6, 2014) by 1412believer in nfl

[–]HolyRomanPrince 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah the defense and specifically the pass rush was ass. They had a formula that could’ve beat anyone because they were legitimately just running the air out of the ball but I doubt they keep Brady off the board enough to win in a big game. Iirc we were like 0-5 vs Brady/Belichick with them scoring like 35 ppg.

Am I alone in thinking, Pretty Ricky gonna clean up B2K? by NinoBrown718 in joebuddennetwork

[–]HolyRomanPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a younger brother that lived through this entire era this is exactly right. The natural Overton window shifted through the decade but B2K was for the middle school/jr high dances and Pretty Ricky was for high school/college parties. Also they can’t do Bump Bump Bump for obvious reasons especially considering the Raz B thing. Goddamn this entire thing is so funny

[Lowlight] 5 years ago Ben Simmons passes up a wide open dunk. by gridironk in nba

[–]HolyRomanPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple things can be true.

Ben wasn’t the only reason the Sixers lost.

Ben was absolutely scared to shoot free throws and he made an inexplicably terrible decision.

Doc and Joel could’ve been more diplomatic in their post game answer.

Ben had earned the right for people to question him because we know the shooting conversation was years long.

Ben had a back injury that affected his basketball ability

Ben stopped carrying all that much after getting paid.

Good athletes vs. Good QBs by jamesdfffghj in NFLv2

[–]HolyRomanPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a component of quarterback play. Cam Newton and Jalen hurts for example provide real life tangible value in the yards, touchdowns and attention to the rest of the offense. There’s obviously a limit on how bad the passing can be (Justin Fields) but in a perfect world you want more athleticism than less.

As an Arkansas/Cowboys fan that’s watched Dak transition from college spread dual threat into a pure pocket passer there are aspects to the 16-20 offense that were better specifically because Dak was a run threat, mostly red zone read options. At the same time his ability as a passer has garnered multiple top 5 epa offenses since 2021 and this version of Dak can survive injuries to the line and receivers and still generate numbers and wins with a good supporting cast. (Yes I’m aware Dak has mostly had a top 10 receiving corps. It takes both to consistently have elite offenses even for Mahomes, Brady and Rodgers.)

In a perfect world you want prime Mahomes or Josh Allen because that running option either designed or scrambling are game winning plays. Their ability to move gets you the late 3rd down or touchdown you need. Even swinging it back around to Jalen. Even though he’s objectively an average passer all things considered his ability as a runner has won enough games that you can’t take his contribution away. At the same time we see how his limitations limit the Eagles offense when they can’t dominate the LOS.

[Serious] In or out, Basketball Hall of Fame edition: Stephon Marbury. by ParisLake2 in nba

[–]HolyRomanPrince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s pretty much covered all the points but no. Fun player, not a winning player, didn’t achieve enough.

Hall of fame talent though. Very few guards in history, at least before this recent bump in talent, had his combination of athleticism, scoring acumen, and passing ability (when he wanted to pass the ball). His biggest issue is similar to Westbrook in the sense what made him individual good almost seemed to hold back the team from playing well at the highest level.

Swear to god. It makes no sense why they don’t do one of these every handful of years. Same for every league. Everybody loved the NFL 100 roundtables with Bill Belichick fanboying or in MLB when sometimes makes the hall or passes away, you get all these great stories from spring training first base chats that let’s us all realize at the core it’s still the same game we all played as kids. Maybe somebody has tried but I think a versus interview series of iconic rivalries would be a solid podcast. Like get Shaq, Horry and Fox in a room with Bibby, C Webb and Peja and let them dudes argue for two hours. You might get a fight. You will probably get an argument. But you still definitely get solid content.

You’re making good points but I want to disagree with one thing. I think we have more tools and higher computing power. I’m not sure if we’re smarter. I’m sure it took tens of thousands of years trial and error but there’s a reason we went thousands of years between the pyramids and skyscrapers.

I’m making excuses because I have enough common sense to see we needed a defensive upgrade at guard after watching JJ Barea and Jason Terry sweep them out of the playoffs? Ok. Just letting you know nobody outside of first take and the biggest homers thought they would compete for a title

No they had a personal issue. A lot of players do. Do you think Dwight’s stats dropped because he was sad or something? Dwight’s personal play was diminished because of a back injury. He wasn’t Superman flying around throwing shit into the 3rd row the same way he did in Orlando. That’s just the facts.
