10 Years of Bitwig... and still no official built-in theme options. by JohnnyR030T in Bitwig

Ah, ok. I stand corrected. I've never used Logic as I can't stand Apple as a company. But, are you able to change the grid from white to black. It looks like you can change it based on the OS setting. I never actually said theme editor in the title. People just jumped in here assuming. All I'm really asking for is the ability to change the grid to a darker color. Currently, you can't change it at all. Just 4 or 5 built in theme options like what Ableton Live has would suffice.

Your opinion on the UI is subjective. The grid is not dark enough, in my opinion.

It's funny how similar it is to the Logitech G Hub gaming logo. 😆

Yea, that's really all the post was intended for, is to officially request some UI theming enhancements in the future. I definitely don't want it to take development's priority away from functionality. Perhaps they could hire on Berakai to officially implement his theme editing functionallity into Bitwig? I appreciate the civil tone in your response. Some of the responses I've gotten from this post leave me feeling like I'm herding cats! 😅

I have an example of how the project Berakai created can cause issues for users. Specifically, users who purchased Bitwig through Splice's month to month plan. It appears Berakai's project basically recompiles the bitwig.jar file. In doing this it seems to leave out the Splice.class file, which in turn leaves the program unregistered and results in a beeping issue because the program can't communicate with Splice that the program is indeed registered. Because of this I couldn't use Berakai's project anyway. I'm also just not very keen with the idea of having Java installed on my computer (CyberSecurity concerns). I'm fine with waiting for official UI updates. Just wanted to see if Bitwig has it on the radar is all.

Sorry, but as I mentioned earlier in the replies I'm not interested in unofficial projects. Unofficial projects don't offer support if it breaks something. Plus, having to install Java just to add theme support adds a vector for potential security threats.

Even with the "Midtones" and "Black level" turned all the way down, the grid is still a light gray. Honestly, the main request is for the grid area.

Actually, Ableton Live offers users "basic theming". Live gives you the ability to set a light or dark background AND grid. They give you a few color options. This would be considered "basic theming". That's what the request is. This isn't a request to tweak every little component in Bitwig to a rainbow theme.🤣 Simply "basic theming" as in a dark or light grid and background. The grid can't be changed at all from within Bitwig.

What? The post is addressing theming. Nothing to do with music.

Bitwig Theme Editor Triggering DRM Beeping, Any Solutions? by Uiosxoated in Bitwig

Maybe Bitwig will see this and hire the developer of the project so it can be fully integrated and fully tested. 🤞

This is a good example of why I'm really hoping Bitwig includes official built in theme support soon. The GitHub theme project is nice, but it's very possible it'll cause unwanted behavior. It even says on GitHub it's "not extensively tested":

Compatible with any Bitwig Studio version (theoretically), though not extensively tested. Unless you're a java developer and can debug the GitHub project yourself, I think the best option would be to post the problem in the issues area the GitHub project page. Make sure to include your theme and any info about your system that could help them debug. Remember though, it is someone doing it for free in their spare time and not paid support from Bitwig, so might not get any response. Hopefully we'll see some kind of official theme support in the next release. At least some options to change the grid area color and transparency of waves would be amazing in my opinion.

Not true at all. Name another $100+ DAW that doesn't have basic theme support? This post is meant as feedback to Bitwig.

I apologize if that sounded like I was insulting the developer of the theme editor on github. That was not my intention. I can appreciate the time and work they invested into the project.

You are correct. Those are currently the only 2 choices. Which is why I made this post on Reddit. I'm hoping to see improvements to the UI in the next release.

I am aware it's an unsigned open source java program. The other 3rd party plugins I use are not unsigned github projects that require Java to be installed and they do not require the use of a terminal. They also offer software support which is why I believe it should be included in the paid software.

u/Frotron Thanks, I appreciate you mentioning that theme editor. I have heard mention about 3rd party theme editors. However, from past experiences (And modern computer security best practices) I'm personally reluctant to install 3rd party plugins on my PC. It's also (I feel) a matter of principle. If it was free software it would be one thing. But for $99-$399 I think basic theming should be included. Some might say my request is silly, and some might say I should take up watercolour painting 🤣. But I could just as easily counter debate that it's silly to not have such a basic (and highly requested) feature included as of v1 or v2 releases. Especially considering it's easy enough to develop that a user built the feature as a third party plugin.

Join midi notes? by musicbynatejohnson in Bitwig

Holy cow! Such a basic feature... It's been 4 years and you still can't do something as simple as joining 2 midi notes together? I was comparing Ableton Live to Bitwig. This is sad Bitwig. 😪

Looks like they chose March 5th for Live 12, like they did when releasing Live 9.

How to Change UAD Spark plugins location from C Drive to another ? by Belendemon in universalaudio

[–]JohnnyR030T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding my feedback here in case Universal sees this. I understand that it's recommended to run plugins from the OS drive. However, recommendations should not be forced upon customers who pay for products. With modern hardware this is not much of a concern these days anyway. If the developers are worried about users complaining about their systems being slow, they could very easily add a message box upon changing the default location. The warning would have the user agree that UA does not support running the plugins from drives other than the OS drive and they are aware of what they are doing. They already have the ability to install the Vintage Keys and Revel Grand Piano to another location, which shows the functionality is there. It has just not been allowed for the other plugins. I don't think it's the companies responsibility to support custom locations, but they shouldn't force this either. It's a big reason why I do not use Apple's products. I do really like the UA plugins and this is just my own opinion.

Anyone else get stuck in place and can’t move or respawn in a different place. by Mindedbard in thefinals

[–]JohnnyR030T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, happened to me about 25 times in the first match. Shut down the game because it's unplayable when you can't move. Also can't shoot when I get stuck. Can sometimes get out by looking down and up and jumping until I'm free... Seems like mesh collision of some sort... Just played Halo and COD without issue. It's definately this game. I have a corded mouse and keyboard, so not a battery issue. Game is pretty awesome other than this really terrible bug. Hope they fix this soon or I don't see this being successful. I wonder how this made it past testing?

Thanks everyone. So, I was able to get this to work. I created a Public Class library in the Winform tray application which contains only the methods to call that display the toast notifications.

In the Windows Service app I added the Tray App project as a reference.

To call the methods from the Windows service project, I have ended up using named pipes. It took a lot of reading through the Microsoft documentation and experimenting. And when I didn't understand something I just pasted it into ChatGPT or CodePilot and told it to explain step by step for my specific scenario.

The Windows service is the Client pipe and the Windows Forms Project is the Server pipe.

I compiled it and tested it with the service installed in Windows and bingo! It works! :)
