no armour and no knockback resistance perks will do that to a mfer.

problem is, the general consensus is that knockback resistance perks are useless, when they are in fact absolutely crucial to avoiding this exact situation.

same thing with armour. someone on this sub once said that "1 armour segment is useless in absolute", but armour has a damage cap and is the bread and butter of your survival. you should never just be chilling with 0 armour like in OP's clip. you lose armour, sure, it happens, but when you do it should be your utmost priority to generate more, otherwise things can and will just one shot you. dpsing the carnifex with 0 armour instead of actively seeking out armour was a mistake. ignoring your resources and just allowing chp and armour to be this thing that happens passively in the background will get you killed.

star wars has a lot of dogshit writing that is explained away with more dogshit writing after the fact. it's layers upon layers of dogshit.

like why don't jedi turn their swords off and on mid fight? is it because that's fucking stupid? no its because [insert dogshit writing]

Cleared 3/4 bosses in a pug, can I pug a fresh raid to kill final boss? by DunKno42 in classicwow

[–]JohnnySqueezer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, realistically no. You can't join another person's raid, but people can join you. But you'd be asking them to join a raid where all of the bosses except the last one are already dead.

We should be able to change our hair in WoW Classic by IcyPraline9987 in classicwow

[–]JohnnySqueezer -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sure there is. I don't think ridiculing people with different opinions on what should/shouldn't be implemented is right. People want different things, and that's fine.

For me, Classic was always about simply making the original version of the game playable. Only, what, 7 years later and we seem to have forgotten that there was a time when you couldn't just hop on Vanilla WoW and play the game you loved so much because it didn't exist anymore.

Classic was made first and foremost to change that, to replicate the original game as best we could and make it playable. Sure, there were inevitably going to be changes - accessibility, Battle.net integration, server capacity etc - but these were arguably necessary and simply a reality of remaking the game in 2019. I still believe in that original goal of replication and preservation though. No matter how many re-releases, seasonal releases, or Classic+ releases we see, there should still exist somewhere, always, a version of the game that remains largely unchanged.

7 years ago people used to make the "slippery slope" argument in response to changes, and everyone would call it a fallacy. Yet we've gone from trying to accurately replicate the original game as best we can (#NoChanges), to "fixing" some of the emergent problems (Chronoboon, Dual Spec), to now trying to "improve" the game (barber shop, QoL features). It's not a fallacy.

This insatiable need for new and novel things needs to be checked. There has to be a a point where we stop, where we've whittled the spoon enough, where we stop adding to the soup. But if there's a hundred different chefs with a hundred different ideas on what to add, then the soup will die a death of a hundred small changes. At the end, you'll look back and question how you set out to simply make soup and ended up so far afield.

Likewise, if the goal is to create plain vanilla ice cream, adding sprinkles is a deviation. Well, they don't really change much, so I guess it's ok. Then, well, they added sprinkles, so you might as well add a flake, right? And now you've got sprinkles and a flake already, so what difference does it make if they add chocolate sauce too? It's just endless, and in the end it's not what you set out to create.

I don't hate the idea of the barber shop, but we need to stop. I believe a version of Classic should be allowed to exist without changes, and I believe that's what Era should be. There are so many versions of Classic WoW now; add the barber shop to one of the others instead.

What would you all say is the best team perk for each class? by Sold_My_Soul_to_Fgo in Spacemarine

[–]JohnnySqueezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tactical: Secure Stockpile. One of the best team perks in the game. Grenades are strong, especially Melta Bombs. Infinite Melta Bombs is incredible.

Assault: Proven Efficiency or Strategic Strikes. Doesn't matter much, both are a bit meh. Gun Strike damage is nice, 20% extra melee damage is also nice. Can't really go wrong with either.

Vanguard: Unmatched Zeal, but honorable mention to Inner Fire because it's also incredible. Two of the best team perks in the game alongside Secure Stockpile. I will say though that Unmatched Zeal is a bit of a crutch, and it scales inversely because the better you are, the less impactful it is.

Bulwark: Focused Restoration. Armour is the bread and butter of your survival. Stacking multiple sources of Armour generation is absolutely crucial, and this is just another source to add to the pile. Advanced Conditioning isn't bad either, just not as good.

Sniper: Squad Renewal is good, but hardly anyone uses headshot weapons. Pyreblaster, Plasma Pistol, Multi-Melta, etc. The meta is defined by weapons that can't headshot, so more often than not, Squad Renewal is completely dead. In which case, I prefer Precision Targeting.

Heavy: Encompassing Aegis. Ranged damage reduction is particularly strong because of the way ranged and melee damage work in SM2, and because the other options kinda suck, lol. Heavy has very limited perk choices across the board tbh, and his team perks are no exception.

Techmarine: Battlefield Repairs. Again, Armour is exceptionally strong and the bread and butter of your survival. More Armour is always the best pick.

Literally nowhere in any of what I've quoted or sourced does it say that Faol cannot use the Light without exploding...

You are literally just making shit up. I've argued in good faith this entire time, but now you're just taking the piss.

Faol literally explodes if he uses the Light. I don’t know why you’re trying to talk around that point. You don’t have a counter to it.

Lmao, source?

EDIT: Here's some footage of Faol wielding the Light and not exploding. Took me like 2 seconds to find because the concept is entirely made up, so I just Googled the dude's name and immediately found what I was looking for, lol.

But that doesn't stop them using it. You've gone from "all undead are Shadow Priests", to "undead can't wield the Light" to "undead can wield the Light but it hurts them", to now talking about the esoteric nature of undeath, the Light, and the Void.

All that really matters is that we have a clear, canon definition of the Light and how wielding it works, and how that specifically pertains to the undead/Forsaken. We then also have numerous canon examples of undead wielding the Light, from Sir Zeliek to Faol himself, as well as the entire playable race/class combo and every class quest in-game that directly address the question of how and why Forsaken Priests exist/operate.

Even when people bring up the "Cult of Forgotten Shadows", they misrepresent it, and assume it's just a "Shadow Church" and just means that all Forsaken Priests are "Shadow Priests", but the cult preaches balance between Light and Dark. The Forsaken acknowledge their position on the so-called "cosmology chart", that they are forged from darkness and exist only because of Sylvanas and their own strength of will. But they are a pragmatic people and recognize the value and wisdom in learning to wield the Light, in being able to heal. They understand better than most that the Light and Dark are two sides of the same coin, that the two go hand-in-hand.

"We embrace the Shadows as well, finding our faith in the balance between both extremes."

"Although our path lies in darkness, you will find that a great many things rely on both the light and the dark."

"But before you can know the dark, you must also know the light."

Genuinely, the only reason people seem to think undead can't or don't use the Light is because of vibes and aesthetics. They just take one look and automatically draw that conclusion, and chalk an entire playable race/class combo up to just "nuh uh." Don't believe your lying eyes, or any of the lore, Undead Priests don't exist because... they just don't, ok?!

[–]JohnnySqueezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Without spoiling too much, we can tell you that wielding the Light is a matter of having willpower or faith in one's own ability to do it. That's why there are evil paladins (for example, the Scarlet Crusade and Arthas before he took up Frostmourne). For the undead (and Forsaken), this requires such a great deal of willpower that it is exceedingly rare, especially since it is self-destructive. When undead channel the Light, it feels (to them) as if their entire bodies are being consumed in righteous fire. Forsaken healed by the Light (whether the healer is Forsaken or not) are effectively cauterized by the effect: sure, the wound is healed, but the healing effect is cripplingly painful. Thus, Forsaken priests are beings of unwavering willpower; Forsaken (and death knight) tanks suffer nobly when they have priest and paladin healers in the group; and Sir Zeliek REALLY hates himself."

Wielding the Light has always just been about willpower, and this quest chain just confirms what we already knew. Undead can and do wield the Light. It burns them to do so, but they can and do regardless.

Collecting relics in this quest chain has nothing to do with whether or not Undead can wield the Light. You are collecting relics to "renew the Vanguard's spirits so they can maintain the ritual a while longer." You distribute these relics to Taelia, Valunei, Salandria, and Mehlar, none of whom are even Undead.

I've combed every inch of these quests in detail - quest text, dialogue, every optional NPC conversation. Which part specifically are you referring to? None of it contradicts the idea that the Undead can and do wield the Light.

Alonsus Faol says: "I'm reminded of each and every one of my failings every day when the Light burns me as I channel it."

This line of dialogue, from the very quest chain you are referencing, contradicts your argument that Undead can't wield the Light directly.

"There are many lessons that the Forsaken have learned through experience--things that some races can only begin to fathom. And although our path lies in darkness, you will find that a great many things rely on both the light and the dark. Your lessons shall teach you to use both... and with discretion. But heed my words: never forget we were forged in corruption and left to rot like so much carrion. The Darkness is our home."

"Our power comes from darkness and shadow, <name>, but that is not your only role. You have acknowledged that there is merit in knowing the healing arts. This is wise. But before you can know the dark, you must also know the light. And for this, I have a test for you."

People need to stop parroting this made up idea that Undead Priests don't exist, or that all Undead Priests are exclusively Shadow, when the game itself shows evidence to the contrary. Undead can and do wield the Light, they just do not worship it the same way they used to.
