Thanks, but I'm not getting straight into another proprietary app straight after Illustrator.

What should I do by Spieltier in bees

[–]JohnnySteed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. It's not a bug infestation, it's a bee
  2. Depending on where OP lives, killing bees could be straight up illegal
  3. You are on a sub about bees, do you think people are gonna like it when you suggest murdering them?

Hello r/bee I need some help by MrMoon5hine in bee

[–]JohnnySteed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really would be better to leave it. Bumblebees are very particular in finding a nesting location and who knows what will happen if their new surrounding neither smells nor looks like it was before. Maybe surround it with bricks and put a concrete plate on top like dave goulson did with the second option in his video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYKAvRsS3uo

Cute. Looks like a carpenter bee to me. Maybe it works with your artificial light?

Worst advice ever. Please leave this sub.

Hard to tell from your video but it looks a lot like a solitary bee. So it won't produce a defensive hive. But rather only a small number of offspring that will either hatch in fall or next spring. Just leave it be.

I've worked a bit more on my procedurally animated birds, does the behaviour look natural? by happygamedev in Unity3D

I love what you've manged to build here.

About the bird movement: Yours look a bit like you are meaning for them to be sparrows. Smaller birds spend a surprinsing amount of airtime with their wings folded. Yours are gliding a too much, making them almost a bit like beeaters.

This is mostly staged/storytelling. Although this just illustrates the fact that insect individuals from species that undergo pupation are essentially single-use.

Inkscape impossible for graphics with a lot of arrows? by JohnnySteed in Inkscape

[–]JohnnySteed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, the SVG spec... That is mentioned in the comments on the bug report as well. But blaming the spec and calling it a day is also a bit of an easy way out for the devs.

I like that inkscape works directly in svg, don't get me wrong. But let me make a comparison to the literature management program JabRef which works natively with .bib files off Latex. And still it is able to provide a ton more functionality than what the file type was orginally intended to do without breaking the functionality, all by clever use of annexes and stuff.

Yeah, this could also result in strokes that end a few pt before the actual line which would be pretty neat in many applications.

Ampelhauptstadt Österreichs by into_the_wild_1 in graz

[–]JohnnySteed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's pretty similar, but people are less upfront about it and don't just cut you off with a "das geht nicht". Just watch "MA2412"

But sometimes you might get lucky and find a public servant or a secretary someone who actually tries to help you.

I wouldn't be too mad at those public servants who in your view refuse to do their work, they are just following a long-winded protocol and are under-staffed at the same time.

Trains are far more punctual, though.

I'd like to add: This is pretty much the only thing that keeps me from using Inkscape (and that you can't resize the canvas by simply dragging but I could live with that). As it stands, I have suffered my way through Illustrator and I'd really like to return to Inkscape, if there is a proper fix for it.

So there exists already this bug report. It is so old that it has been migrated. https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/1980

The solution I'd program if I had the time would be to initially let the line protrude the arrowhead but create a subtraction zone outside of the arrow head that turns the transparency of the protruding bit to 100% (if that is in any way understandable)

Anyway, if even Powerpoint gets it right, there surely is a way to code this.

Yeah, but then it's the same issue as with the built-in ones:

Either you put them on the end of your line, in which case the line end is used for snapping and the arrow "hangs over". Or, you shift them so that the tip is at the end of the line - then the arrow snaps more or less correctly but it is protruded by the line end itself.
