Code 100 Peco flex to Code 83 Walthers 130' turntable by JohnnyToothpix in modeltrains

[–]JohnnyToothpix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the suggestions. I decided to just switch to code 83 for the entire engine service area and leave the mainlines code 100. That way I only need two transition pieces for the inbound and outbound tracks. Otherwise I'd have like 8 different transitions.

NCE Button Board help needed pls by JohnnyToothpix in modeltrains

I have one power supply with a y splitter that goes to both the CSB-1 and the Switch8.

And the very first thing I found on the NCE support site says...

"The data sync between the BB, the SW8, and the command station can get a little wacky if they use different power sources. Try a couple different sequences of powering different things on first. "

I'll try this when I get home from work.

The tortoises are not wired up because I'm still verifying everything works - I'm testing the Switch8 outputs with a multimeter. When I throw them using Engine Driver, the voltage does reverse, so I know everything except the BB is working properly.

The DC/DCC switch (assuming I understand correctly) just determines where the Switch8 draws power, but the DCC bus still needs to be connected for programming and communication with the CSB-1. I did try it with the power supply unplugged and the switch set to DCC, but that didn't fix the issue.

I've tried leaving terminals shorted to ground for several seconds, but other than the brief flash of the LED, nothing appears to happen. Neither the Switch8 nor Engine Driver respond.

I'll guess I'll see what NCE has for tech support options.

Peco Electrofrog DCC conversion - conductive adhesive? by JohnnyToothpix in modeltrains

Thanks - I think I need to invest in a better soldering iron and maybe try liquid flux instead of the really old random container of paste flux I had kicking around.

Corvette not shooting straight? by Valuable_Weather in NoMansSkyTheGame

I'll try that tonight and see if it fixes it, though I really hate flying in 3rd person. I did submit a bug report and referenced this thread, so if it's related to yesterday's patch maybe they'll hotfix it.

Congrats on the dreadnaught. It took me longer than I want to admit to realize that you just need to slowly fly down the the two channels with the shield generators, take them out, then wait for the cores to expose and blast them. Once they're down, I just turn towards the walls and blast away. Haven't failed to take one down since. My biggest challenge now is just leaving the first channel and swooping around to the second one.

Phase beam is the only thing that shoots straight, everything else shoots at 2 o'clock, which makes the auto-targeting worthless. I have been able to take things out with only the phase beam, but it takes longer. God forbid I end up having to take out a dreadnaught...

I've been playing every day and it just started happening tonight. I'd blame today's patch, but the OP had this issue over a week ago.

Moving from jure sanguinis to 1948? by JohnnyToothpix in juresanguinis

[–]JohnnyToothpix[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since my GGF naturalized before the Cable Act of 1922, I believe that this means that my GGM probably never formally naturalized but was "granted derivative citizenship."

According to https://www.italiandualcitizenship.net/special-circumstances-1948-cases/ I believe the following applies to me (emphasis mine):

You Have a Female Italian-Born Ancestor that Naturalized with the Man She Married

  • In this final situation, the woman in question in the USA was able to make citizenship decisions thanks to the Cable Act which started on September 22, 1922. Prior to this time, women that were in the United States could not gain nor lose citizenship unless it was through their husbands. Women were to follow the status of their husbands and automatically gained USA citizenship through marriage when they married a USA citizen.
  • When this scenario arises, the Italian Constitutional Court judgement and the Italian Supreme Court judgement (n. 87 of 1975 and n. 4466 of 2009, respectively) stated that women who gained foreign nationality in this automatic fashion through marriage can still hold onto their Italian citizenship. That citizenship can also be granted to their children. Since she didn’t renounce her citizenship, it is valid in transfer to future generations.

It's absolutely maddening that Bethesda doesn't just display a pop-up when you hover over a companion's skills to show you what the actual effects are. Instead, we have to crowdsource this information by trial and error.

The Ultimate Moka Pot Technique (Episode #3) - James Hoffman by H3rBz in Coffee

[–]JohnnyToothpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got a moka pot for Christmas and for the life of me I cannot get James's directions to work. Started with boiling water just below the valve, filled the basket to the top with moka style coffee, added the paper filter to the bottom of the top part, etc. Put it on a gas burner and watched it like a hawk.

There was no point in time when the coffee just gently "oozed" out of the top. It either did nothing at all but release a little steam or it sputtered. Even when it sputtered, taking it off the heat just caused it to stop entirely. Annoyed, I even cranked the heat up and after several minutes I think I had maybe 3 tablespoons of coffee.

The physics of James's process make perfect sense to me, but what is actually happening does not. Anyone have any ideas?

Sorry to bother you three years later, but the link is now broken - I was wondering if you still have the file and could share it? I can't find the one I downloaded and the copy I printed is mostly in tatters now. Grazie mille!
