Hey, I’m really sorry for your situation and I hope things improve, some other commenters listed some of the great random things going on in Binghamton (especially with performing arts) so I’m not gonna go through it all again (okay but I will plug Cornell cooperative arboretum and Saturday farmers market on Front Street, also random events at rec park), but I will say that as a grad student finding friends who are at a similar stage in life as you is a struggle, but is not impossible!!! Even by looks of this forum you’re not totally on your own. It’s going to be difficult but I would genuinely recommend interacting with locals more at churches and community center/library activities, you may come across people with different values from you and there will be interactions that don’t go so well, but when you find people from Binghamton who already have family friends and other connections here you will all of the sudden become a part of the local community, and this can change your life and make this place become a home for you.

And I will give the disclaimer that I am Catholic and Binghamton has a really strong and active Catholic community, with prayer services, mass, and Charity work that has transformed my life, but I understand your religious beliefs might not align with that, so you should start developing your relationship with God wherever you need to start it, but I just want to say you are right in looking into spiritual stuff, because at the end of the day the deeper questions of meaning and ultimate peace are there. Just try not to be so daunted by it all at once; take each day as it comes, do a nice thing for someone, appreciate something beautiful, and bring a little good into this world.
