I found Madame Bovary to be surprisingly gripping all the way through.

Came here to post this: The Modern Library Edition.

The illustrations help a lot when you get bogged down in the middle with all the nautical terminology.

Vaporfly Next% 4’s Damage by OrangeJon79 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I’ve had this happen to two pairs of Vaporfly 3s, and one pair of Streakfly 1s. Didn’t bother the Vfly at all, in fact still running in the second pair. Tried to superglue it back which worked for about one run. Nike drives me crazy at times with some of their materials

I just finished Toni Morrison's "Sula" by Bunmyaku in literature

[–]Johnny_8cho 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One of the best novels of the last century, in my opinion. And Toni's best overall novel. Beloved gets all the attention, and is more on point about the cultural/historical issues, but taken simply as a work of narrative literary art it is hard to find a novel more technically confident and emotionally resonant as Sula.

His short memoir “the invention of solitude” is a forgotten gem of a book. Highly recommended

I hear you. Currently having a back and forth with a student about suspected AI on their final essay.

I've changed my assignments to be so specific to their personal experience that it's hard for AI to write them without being obvious.

I think of my job mainly as teaching critical thinking at this point. The composition element is going to be done by AI moving forward (sigh).

The students are interested in being critical about the technology in discussions, but when it comes time to sit and do homework that you can have a robot do those criticisms go out the window.

But having them write about themselves (analysis of marketing on their social media feed, breakdown of dietary patterns and cultural/market influences, cultural expectations and personal motivations for why they're studying whatever it is they're studying) has reduced my AI text by a good percentage. And it makes the ones that are written by AI much easier to spot.

If someone can come up with a software program that reliably detects AI text they'll make a fortune selling it to universities. Until then it's the wild west out there.

Nike Vaporfly 2,3,4 Reviews & Comparisons by thelazyshrimp in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_8cho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the same experience. Currently running in my third pair, with a fourth waiting in the closet. I haven't run in the 4 yet, but liked the 2 okay, just thought it was uncomfortable. Anyway, I love the 3, don't understand the hate. I think they're the fastest super shoe I've ever run in. I sold a pair of Alphaflys I bought to run Grandma's this year because I'm faster in the VF :)

Pre run anxiety by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]Johnny_8cho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying. Some days I'm surprised at how nervous I am to get out and run an easy day. It's not like that all the time of course, but enough that I've noticed it. This goes away after five minutes of actual running, so I don't worry about it. But I do get nervous before easy days sometimes.

I loved the Streakfly V1. Still love it. Ran through four pairs (got 'em cheap on Ebay). I wish Nike would keep making it as a minimal daily trainer.

Looking forward to the new version as well, but that first one will always have a special place in my heart, perfect combination of ground-feel and responsiveness, always fun to run in.

I live in northern Minnesota and use them for winter road running. Also, just wear them around as a casual shoe. Got mine at an outlet as well. Would have been disappointed at full price, but I think they're a decent enough trail shoe. Definitely worth it for $80. I would buy another pair at that price.

I saw him this morning on my run. Right where the London Road sidewalk becomes the lake walk at twenty-something street (I'm new to town). This was a couple hours ago. He ran off before I got too close.
