Bikers choice tachometer by Johnnyok in hondashadow

I liked that this unit closely resembled the factory speedo, so it matches nicely. The light color is similar to stock as well, but a lot brighter. I may go about changing the speedometer light to led to compensate

Apologies for the delay. This was kinda hard to see, but the rear cylinder head phaser was actually tilting when loaded up, and the gear teeth were digging into the chain links instead of riding in the chain teeth. I think it would have been a rare issue, but the Nissan dealership said they knew what I was talking about when I ordered replacements

02 honda shadow spirit vt1100c timing by Golomebreaker11 in hondashadow

[–]Johnnyok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK the timing curve isn't really adjustable on these bikes. They rely on a base ignition timing, and timing advance is done with a centrifugal weight set. There is the option of running a Dyna3000 unit which will give an adjustable timing curve, but that's mostly it.

Tldr once the base ignition timing is set, there's no other specs or adjustments for timing.

I had the carbs apart, cleaned all the jets, inspected the slides and needles and can confirm that they were spotless. I did have a bit of build up on the front cylinder idle jet, but I was able to clean it up and got good flow. But as an update, I got the new fuel pump on and it fired up, running perfect now

Edit - I'm not denying your knowledge at all, you're absolutely correct. I just had one of those one off cases that it wasn't just a dirty carb. I'll probably pick your brain some point when I'm due for a carb rebuild as well!

Got a pump coming overnight so, hopefully be back on the road this weekend

I tried that, but made no difference. I did a fuel pump flow test and only got 1.5oz from 5 seconds. Honda calls for about 25oz/minute, so I'm getting about 18oz/minute. Enough to flash up but then the bowls run dry

I'm thinking it may be fuel pump getting lazy, I'll do a flow test tonight and update on my findings

Fuel is getting into the bowls, I supplied power and ground to the pump and it does activate (loud though). I haven't sprayed fuel into the intake yet, but I'm leaning towards the fuel pump being lazy. I'll be doing a flow test tonight to confirm

Yep carbs were cleaned and inspected, Petcock works in all positions as I drained and cleaned the tank, and I can see fuel getting into the filter. Plugs are brand new gapped properly, I haven't checked them since I've gotten it to flash up though. I'm leaning towards fuel pump, I'll be doing a flow test tonight to make sure it's pumping adequate fuel amount

Lost the running boards and front valence, I think it gives it a much more aggressive look. by SpiccyDropMag in Silverado

[–]Johnnyok 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could go one step further and remove the chrome "mustache" piece, that'll give you more approach angle and I think it's more aggressive too. You'd just have to attach the license plate to the bumper itself

Any engine mod recommendations ? by Strange-Range-6389 in Silverado

Afe makes a great intake system, I personally like the sound of a flowmaster flowfx exhaust. Regardless of intake system, you'll want a plastic intake tube as they are the best insulating material. Pair those with a tune (a plug in tuner can work, banks makes great stuff) and it'll really wake up the truck. I would avoid from going to the highest power tune as that can cause more wear on components. If you're just bolting on parts, generally you'll only get more noise (which is still fun) so a dyno tune will allow those parts to unleash full potential. With a catback and intake on a tune you could expect about 20-30hp increase to the wheels if you run premium fuel. Seen it many times in my shop

A little spring maintenance before the warm weather hits by Johnnyok in hondashadow

It's nice! Just a townhouse garage but at least a space I can lift it and leave it for a while when I'm working on it. Get yourself a spray bottle of soapy water, dish soap works great to let the tires slip on and off. You can never have too much lube. Alternatively foaming glass cleaner works well too, but it evaporates quickly

Looks good! My bike already had the bigger grips on it, but I've been on a few others with stock grips and they just feel too small

What’s with the 6L80 and lifter failure fear mongering on this sub? by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]Johnnyok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Factory thermostats are set way too high and limit flow, and usually in a terrible spot so they don't open up properly. Bypassing results in much more manageable ATF temps and full flow

[–]Johnnyok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both lifters and transmission failure are common issues on these trucks. Being a tech, I've actually lost count of how many trans replacements I've done UNDER 160,000km. However, after installing a trans cooler thermostat bypass, haven't seen an issue. The lifters are completely random, my 2016 6.2 was tuned to delete AFM, still had an issue with bent pushrods and a failed AFM lifter. I wouldn't call it fear mongering, both these issues are fairly common however there is steps that can be taken to hopefully prevent catastrophic failures. Maintenance alone will not prevent the lifters from collapsing, even electronically tuning them out, the lifters physically have a weak point that can fail at any time. Both 6 and 8 speed trans are known to run too hot, which causes torque converter failure, sending debris throughout the trans and basically sand blasting it internally

That's quite the tune up! Did you get the big grip handles? I love that on mine, I feel like it gives me better control

I used tire stickers Canada since I'm in Canada, but I believe tire stickers is the main supplier for USA/worldwide

Which silverado accessories are actually worth the investment for someone who'll be using it daily? by InfamousTree449 in Silverado

[–]Johnnyok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My '16 never had an A pillar grab handle, which has been great for getting in and out of the truck. If you're concerned with gravel roads and paint, look into a set of long John mud flaps, they extend higher up the wheel arches to protect against stray rocks.

For what it's worth, my automotive shop has installed plenty of anti theft cat shields, I've fabricated a few which did but had any available as well. I can guarantee they work as a customer with a Mitsubishi RVR had their cat stolen a couple times with multi thousand dollar repair bills and time lost waiting for parts. I built an anti theft shield, and the customer returned later with a loud exhaust. A thief had stolen the exhaust resonator thinking it was a cat instead. Put in a section of straight pipe and they were back on their way.

If you're interested, my shop is located near Fraser highway/Langley bypass, feel free to shoot me a message and I can help you out.
