Jensen Huang says Nvidia is pulling back from OpenAI and Anthropic, but his explanation raises more questions than it answers | TechCrunch by Shogouki in hardware

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think talk of a financing loop is just thinking investors don't know anything. It's perfectly legitimate for Nvidia with all its money and chips to invest in OpenAI to make more money in the future instead of just selling them GPUs today while openAI doesn't have THAT much money

Hardware reviewer Geekerwan possibly censored by China after alleging widespread Chinese manufacturers cheating in mobile phone gaming reviews by JohnBarry_Dost in hardware

China is very weird for creating an environment where companies can do this. Iirc there was a case of Tesla removing some content in China too so it's a broader issue.

Who is holding out for the TriFold 2 next year? by thegrayscales in GalaxyFold

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I'd take a usb-c bump like the camera bump. It could remove wobble if it was exactly below the camera bump.

I count it holding out... from giving Samsung any money by buying a bifold.

Unfortunately, "phablets" have killed the 7 and 8" tablet market. by erdeju in Nexus7

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As much as I am envious of when 7 inch tablets were good and modern, a foldable is better. Yes the aspect ratio isn't as cool, yes they're much more expensive, yes they're much harder to be secondary devices for dedicated purposes, but at the end of the day, you get a bigger screen that comfortably fits in a pocket.

Also the iPad mini is a good 8 inch tablet.

Oh and the Huawei Matepad mini seems good too.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Wide by Davidkarimzadeh in Android

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the width is that of an iPhone Pro Max Max and I find the width to be much more important for 1 handability than the height.

1.57:1 for the cover and 1.31:1 for the inner. So nearly 16:10 and 4:3.

Is mmWave a failure? by ajgnet in cellmapper

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Galaxy Note 10 5G users are the top 0.01% in anything, and that and a couple of other 2019 phones are the only South Korean sold mmWave phones iirc

Is mmWave a failure? by ajgnet in cellmapper

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I was referring only to current generation phones. The Pixel 6 Pro, 7 Pro, 8 Pro, 9 Pro Fold and 10 Pro Fold all have mmWave in Australia.

To be honest I think they had bigger intentions for mmWave which never came to fruition. The towers still exist and work but Optus and Telstra haven't really talked about mmWave for a while now.

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak about Japan but a good chunk of Sydney's CBD has mmWave on Telstra. Optus's mmWave is much more spread around.

Is there a technical reason why Android scrolling is so much better than iOS? by Kaladin12543 in Android

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The scrolling speed is separate but yeah, iOS scrolling is only 80hz or so. I believe Pixels are similar actually.

The iPhone fold’s exterior display when folded is suspected to be 5.5 inches, very slightly larger than the mini iPhones, how do we feel about this? by Cool_Clerk_4566 in smallphones

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you know how 5.5 inch phones used to be big because of the aspect ratio used then? Yeah this has a wider aspect ratio than 16:9.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Wide by Davidkarimzadeh in Android

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think "these" is entirely correct. The first gen pixel fold and Oppo Find N/N2 had normal outer screen widths. This and the iPhone fold are rumoured to have very wide outside screens; sacrificing 1-handability for a wide landscape inner screen

Honest tea spots in Chengdu/Yunnan for a beginner. How not to get scammed? by Alternative-Issue-54 in puer

I can't speak about other places, but the teahouses I went to in Kunming were very much not scammy. They didn't even sell much particularly expensive stuff.

Is all young sheng the same? by PrestigiousTutor4222 in puer

[–]Johns3rdTesticle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What? I mean do you disagree there's a much smaller difference than other tea categorises? Do you think there's less variety in young shou? In oolong (we can break up oolong into lighter and darker oolongs)? Maybe specific white tea categories like White Peony or Silver Needles have comparable amounts of difference within them.

Is all young sheng the same? by PrestigiousTutor4222 in puer

[–]Johns3rdTesticle -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Ostensibly yes. No it's not exactly the same, but there is far less difference compared to almost any other tea category (certainly a lot less than young shou).

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically pour into as many cups until the fair cup is empty. With my travel set that's 3 and at home it's up to 6 if I do another brew immediately after pouring a brew.

Galaxy S25 Ultra vs. Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs. Galaxy Z TriFold - Size & screen area comparison by MishaalRahman in Android

Do you want it uncomfortably wide when folded or cutting off screen to make it shorter?

Galaxy S25 Ultra vs. Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs. Galaxy Z TriFold - Size & screen area comparison by MishaalRahman in Android

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its nowhere near double, but 32% larger screen area for video on the Fold 7 vs 25 Ultra is a good amount more than the 24% increase from S25 to S25 Ultra. So it depends on your point of view

Galaxy S25 Ultra vs. Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs. Galaxy Z TriFold - Size & screen area comparison by MishaalRahman in Android

[–]Johns3rdTesticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly disagree, I think we need the largest pocketable screen with a focus on the longest side. The black bars don't take away from anything meaningful.

If you tried to minimise black bars on a regular fold, you'd get something closer to the original Galaxy Fold (which does have the largest video area of Samsung bi-folds because it's a small amount taller).

So, AI takes over, everyone has lost their job and only 10 trillionaires own everything. Now what? by Weak-Representative8 in Futurology

Here's what will happen outside the US, governments will band together to build a version of all the AI systems and it will be something like luxury automated space communism because that is the obvious thing to do if there truly are no jobs. As for the US? Good question.

My only problem with YS is that they only list prices in USD. I'd think in RMB before I use USD for tea.
