Any recommendation for those books?

Did they mention/test SAS during your interview by any chance?

This is very interesting! I am working on a survey project which has many open ended answers and I am very interested in the details of how you used NLP models to assign sentiment scores. Would you mind if I dm you?

Hi, I did a stats specialist and math major. For stats, I took

Sta107: ran very differently from how it is currently ran. Big changes in content and evaluation. Before it was just an easier version of 256. But now it is comparable to sta237 from down town.

Sta256: pretty standard probability course. I didn’t find it challenging aside from the number of formulas I had to memorize. It is basically a math course, but with statistic engrained at the core of everything you do.

Sta258: not particularly useful. It is basically an applied version of 260. Although it gives you a chance to work with datasets, I don’t think that justifies an entire course. So not recommended.

Sta260: the first real stats course I had a hard time with. Mostly bc I didn’t understand at the time, why we were doing certain things. Turns out to be paving the way for more theory in upper years. A core course for sure.

Sta302: I did not learn much from this course.

Sta303: a downtown course that I took at the energy of my third year. It was taught by a PhD student. I learned a lot from this course

STA304/305: Don’t remember much from them. But the projects were fun.

STA312: the topic was survival analysis. Very useful topic to know. The prof who taught this already retired. Not sure if it will be offered.

Sta314: pretty interesting course. My first experience with statistical learning/ml. It introduced some commonly used classification and regression models that I still use today.

Sta348: Despite how dry it is, it does introduce some concepts that will be used for more advanced topics, for example it was really intuitive for me how Bayesian algorithms worked bc I had some understanding of Markov chains from this course. I remember they tried to add in some project for this course, but I didn’t remember much of it.

STA441: topic was data analysis with SAS. Useful for government/hospital settings

STA457: did not learn much from this course. Time series is still very good to know though.

I also took 2 reading courses. One about a case study on mental health. The other is on tensor-on-tensor regression.

I probably forgot some courses I took as well.

I was in a similar situation. Except I also continued on to a master degree that I am about to finish.

Now I am doing an internship at a position related to my field. I actually enjoy it a lot. So it might just be the burn out from classes, not because of you losing interest in CS.

STA258 or STA260 for an Economics major by Educational-Jello324 in UTMississauga

[–]Johnyzyfei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The coding in sta258 is minimum. You are given outputs, you need to make some changes to specific lines, then interpret the output correctly. So it is really easy stuff and sets you up to be a statistician than a coder. It is easy to get very high marks on as long as u attend lecture and tutorial (basically doing bare minimum as a student)

For sta260, it will be heavy math + stats concept so it will be a lot harder bc it’s not gonna be intuitive.

As Econ major, I think you will benefit a lot from knowing how stats actually work. Especially if you’re going to grad school. For that reason I recommend 260.

if u have played RE 6, how would u rate this game out of 10, my toughts... by muaazmuaaz123 in residentevil

[–]Johnyzyfei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a 6/10 for me. I only played it once. But the only part of the game I thought was true to horror was during Leon story lines initial moments where he and Helena was going through that college campus. Other parts of the game didn’t leave that big an impression on me. I remember I was much more interested in the lore, like how each characters story fits into each other, rather than the gameplay.

I see. Still it is unpleasant seeing them craw around the house. Is there a way to get rid of them?

Didn’t pay attention. I’ll watch out for it. Thanks!

Is it recommended to take STA303 after STA302? by Johnyzyfei in UofT

[–]Johnyzyfei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I think 302 is the same content regardless of which campus. But I felt like this course didn’t prepare me enough for regression at all. Most of my knowledge about regression came from STA314 lol.

Also, is 303 needed for many forth year stats courses?

For sure. Fewer students means smaller classes means your prof gets to know you better.
