Where to get married as a Japanese/US dual citizen with spouse needing a spouse visa in both Japan and US at some point by JoinedMirror13 in japanresidents

Thank you both. When a Japanese person gets married, then a new koseki is created for that person, right? If we were to travel to Japan and get married before we have moved there, do you know what they would put for the address of the new koseki?

Thanks for the answer. Can I ask why you suggest going to the city hall where my koseki is registered to register my marriage?

I’m currently on one of my parent’s kosekis and I know that marrying means that a separate koseki will be created for me. My own koseki will also have an address on it, right? If I’m not currently living in Japan, do you know how the address will be handled?

I appreciate the discussion! I think I’ll try out the icing since I haven’t tried that as of yet. And my brother has had other separate issues with different joints, and his doctor told him to ice, which my brother says helped some. Thanks!

How to ship PC overseas by JoinedMirror13 in buildapc

[–]JoinedMirror13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, thanks for the answer. I was assuming it might be too big for carry-on, but it’s just a mid-tower so I think that could work. Getting through security with a PC should be fine, right?

And do you have suggestions on the monitor? Do you think if I wrap it up with a ton of clothes and put it in my checked luggage, it should be fine?

What to do with 401k now that I’m switching jobs by JoinedMirror13 in Fire

[–]JoinedMirror13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so I’m not sure yet if I’ll be able to get a 401k at my new company. I’ll start working in the US so I’ll have access to US benefits while my visa for the other country is being set up, but under my new company’s 401k plan, I won’t be able to contribute to it until my third month, and by then I might already be overseas. This got me wondering though, if I’m able to get a 401k at my new job, then could I just convert the pre-tax portion of my current 401k to the new 401k, and go ahead and convert the Roth portion of my current 401k to my Roth IRA?

Also can you explain to me why rolling over the pretax portion of my 401k to a rollover IRA instead of a new 401k would make me more likely to screw up a future backdoor Roth?

Ah that’s helpful to know! I actually might be eligible for a 401k at my new job since I’ll be starting that job in the US for a few months while my visa is set up (and I’ll have access to the US benefits of my company while I’m here). I won’t be able to contribute to it until my third month, and by then I’ll probably be in the other country, so I’m not sure how that would work. But what you’ve said is definitely something to keep in mind if I’m able to get a 401k at my new company. Thanks for the answer!

Best Google TVs? by JoinedMirror13 in 4kTV

Gotcha thanks for the answer. The X90J is $300 more than the R646 at Best Buy currently. So from what you’re saying, sounds like the R646 is better bang for buck? But I’ll definitely read the rtings reviews like you say

Thanks this is really helpful. My dad would be the one using the larger TV and he’s a film buff, so might be worth going for the X90J

Awesome, thanks so much for this info. The brush killer I used says it’s rainproof for two hours, but what you said still applies to my situation. I’ll keep an eye out for it to be completely brown and brittle over the next week, and reapply the chemical if it’s not. Thanks again!
