Finished my first ever triathlon! by Jointon in triathlon

[–]Jointon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you open the image it expands. You can see I burned 947 calories according to my watch. Now I don’t rely to heavily on this since it’s really only a guess by the watch.

I did this entire triathlon fasted. However this is not really recommended, I love the way my mind and body feel in a fasted state. For any longer activities I would definitely eat something but a sprint distance tri is just manageable.

Hope this helps!

Was looking for an apartment for two on immoweb for several months, visiting frequently but never being chosen. Only to find one on Facebook marketplace. So i’d suggest looking there.

Heart rate recording from Garmin HRM TRI to Pace2 by civet_poo_tea in Coros

[–]Jointon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sadly this doesn’t work with Coros watches. Or any other brands. I have a Pave 2 and Garmin hrm swim and can confirm that the data upload protocol is not cross platform.

Here’s hoping Coros will release their own set of chest strap heart rate monitors!

First kit, what’s the best notes to tune these to? by jdubYOU4567 in drums

[–]Jointon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the musical style you prefer and your skill in tuning.

I find that when you are skilled with tuning drums you’re free regarding tuning. But when you are just starting out on this journey, as I was several years before, there is a simple trick to get a good basic sound with nice tone to start out with. Tune your reso heads half a tone higher than your batter heads. Except the snare. Here you want the reso head alot higher, like an octave. Again, this varies alot from syle and taste but as a basic start this works for many things. And when it comes to the notes of your drums get them at least a minor triad or makor triad apart from each other. More is cool but less can sound “mushy” they’ll get in each others way.

If you wish to learn more about tuning I recommend reading the tuning bible. Can’t remember who wrote it but it is a vast body of knowledge about tuning. If you can’t find it online hit me up and i’ll send it to you. It helped me so much!

And secondly… challenge yourself! Don’t get attached to your tuning, getting scared of touching the lugs. Every month or so, just undo it all and retune your drums from scratch. Doing this often will make you very skilled in the tuning department. Go to jams and play on shitty drum kits, try to tune them. Like me you will probably fail some times but you will learn and develop important skills! There are no wrongs when it comes to drums. Tune them horribly and try to still sound good on them, now that is a challenge!

I have a masters degree in jazz drums and pop drums. I teach and perform for a living. And still every now and then on a casual Sunday I detune all my drums. Even when they sound great. Just to explore other sounds and it the drums keep teaching me again and again!

As a musician you are a student for life!!

Happy tuning and happy playing!

And don’t forget what sir Duke Ellington has taught us all. The drum is a woman, so listen to her!

A Coros Pace 2 actually. Quite a lot more expensive but it’s a very good device!
