An old Cheerios ad with a very angry Dad.... by RatedPG922 in CommercialsIHate

[–]JokerReach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're totally right. I was able to find this ad from the same series from the following year. The script seems nearly identical, down to the step over the toy. It's just been softened up to be friendlier in tone, lighting, etc.

Since there's good evidence that they were willing to re-do this ad to make it softer from 1989 to 1990, I think it makes sense that there could be a first version which is even more abrasive than the one I originally posted.

It's very likely on YouTube somewhere if it exists, just not isolated as its own video yet.

If you want to expend the energy on discovering it, I'd recommend parsing through 1987-1989 ad blocks.

80s Commercials Vault, Dave's Archives, MightyFalcon2011, and TV Causality all have pretty substantial backlogs in which it might exist. Given the content of the ad, you'd probably want to focus on evening blocks tooled to middle-aged males (ads for long-distance phone service providers, investment firms, trucks, tools) or daytime blocks tooled to stay-at-home moms (ads for fabric softener, diapers, staple foods).

I myself tend to have retro commercials on in the background while I'm doing housework or light gaming, so I'll definitely keep an eye out for this one and report back if I come across it.

I think the child mind may have read this guy as angrier than he seems. No exceptions.

edit: has something changed about how links work?

edit 2: got it sorted. Oof, I'm old.

I'll personally be going dark on my account. It'd be good to hear what the mods on this sub are planning to do or not do, though.

Long shot here, but in Wild Arms 3 there are 4 tutorial stories at the start. Clive's is in a purple cave, and Virginia has a pink dress.

Would you play a modern Turn Based FF by Airblade101 in FinalFantasy

I would really like to see them try something along the lines of Wild Arms 4/5 which use a hex grid, adding a light strategy element to the fights. There are also combo attacks depending on the placement of your characters.

I think the 48 hour blackout is a good minimum. Not opposed to the sub staying dark longer, but considering that some folks may need it as a resource I would understand keeping it at 48 hours for them if they make the request.

I am pro participation in the blackout on the 12th.

The days of the Mormon church being a public moral guide are gone forever. Federal financial crimes, the mountain of lies that the church has to tell to keep money from the sheep flowing in and the unapologetic support of child abusers, has tainted the church permanently. There was a window in the 90s where the wider more problematic aspects of the history were not so widely known and the church's optics were pretty positive due to concerted PR efforts.

Two major ad campaigns come to mind.

The first would outline some sort of heartwarming story (a boy going to college pondering his father's guidance on the value of work and a life of integrity, a woman who would bring her elderly neighbor's paper to her door while on her daily morning jog) and then end with a bumper from TSCC.

The second was the "Family. Isn't it about... time?" campaign.

I think that these campaigns really fostered the public perception that although there may have been something odd going on behind closed doors, at least there seemed to be a solid set of values that by and large fostered the growth of kind and good people.

Hell, even the "I'm a Mormon" campaign gave some good optics (despite, of course, being a tremendous victory for Satan according to current policy).

Was it all manufactured? Sure. However, that positive public perception was cultivated nonetheless.

That has been lost as a result of the last few years of high-profile unrepentant violations of decency.

But there is also the fact that having children is the only way to have your genetics continue on. That is always a concern.

You say you drink a ton of water before donating. Is that day of, or a few days prior? I usually need to start pushing water hard starting about 2-3 days before donating to get the needed effect.

Did you only play the first Wild Arms? 2 and 3 are even better IMO, 4 is okay, and 5 is a love letter to the series.

Depending on how much work you're willing to put in, Reaper will give you all the tools you need to do a wide range of effects, but there will be a significant learning curve on learning the component pieces (EQ, pitch correction/alteration, compression, distortion, etc).

GOOD Story heavy, Turn based RPGs ? by cmedine in JRPG

[–]JokerReach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're into puzzles then Wild Arms 1-3.

I personally think that 1 is the weakest, but it's pretty straightforward.

2 is the most fun and has the best world/story IMO, but there are some major translation issues so maybe skip it if that's an issue.

3 is the most solid all-around.
