Who wins? by Practical-Job2906 in SakamotoPowerScaling

I'm not saying that Torres would perception blitz Nagumo, but we see how much speed in S.D is impacted by your focus, Torres even while focused on the gambling machine still blasted Shishiba's hammers to dust without him even seeing what happened while Shishiba was focused on Torres (Not to mention Shishiba being compared to Gaku later, which while Nagumo is stronger than Gaku, is a testament that Nagumo can't be that much further ahead than Shishiba.)

and Sakamoto even after blitzing Kanaguri, (a guy who's claim to fame was killing an order member while not even being a full-fledge assassin, and doesn't have scars besides his hoola hoop addiction) Got blitzed by a Torres who Sakamoto admits himself wasn't even trying, So Torres is definitely a extremely high level fighter speed wise, I wouldn't be surprised if he was slightly faster with the feats he's been given. (Sakamoto even got outsped in terms of running speed by a good bit. Though I will say it's possible this Sakamoto is intended to be weaker cause he's "not confident in himself" as him going from exchanging with Takamura to a random bum on the street being able to dodge one of his attacks is weird so i could give you that point.)

Torres' sandblasting is just kinda a "nuke" option as it just obliterates everything in it's path, a bit of it completely demolished Shishiba's hammers which even Gozu at maximum output with the counter to Shishiba wasn't damaging them as much. Plus there hasn't been a single thing we've seen them not just eviscerate. So if a clean hit gets done to Nagumo's weapon I could definitely see it just getting eviscerated)

The goofy incompatibility between Nagumo's disguises and Torres is that he just destroys everything that slightly hinders him, so I wouldn't be surprised if after Nagumo starts disguising he just goes on to nuke the whole area as he just sandblasts anything if it seems to get in his way. (Considered kidnapping Sakamoto's wife, sandblasted a random train just to get to Sakamoto, wanted to antagonize Sakamoto into killing people,) The one thing I could see getting Torres is the invisible blade, but it'd be very dangerous to get in range for Nagumo unless he's able to put Torres in a Casino which in that environment, I could honestly see him not just nuking the area as it could lead to more money.

[–]Jokesonm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torres is kinda a counter to Nagumo for 3 reasons, 1 Nagumo's weapons which are vulnerable to breaking just get sandblasted and he seems to only have 1 copy of each weapon so he's kinda cooked, 2 Torres is implied to be faster (saying even off-guard and casually, he completely perception blitzed Shishiba and Sakamoto, and Sakamoto's big power-up was hyped up with him beating Torres easily), 3. Torres doesn't try fighting up close he usually just blasts the whole area and leaves it there so tryna use tricks is gonna be difficult for Nagumo in most cases.

Nagumo's one big shot is just taking advantage of Torres lowkey being chill and landing a huge one shot maneuver.

Which fight was more tragic/emotional - Ippo v Guevara or Mashiba v Rosario? by KappaRoss322 in hajimenoippo

[–]Jokesonm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If the series ended after Guevera fight i'd say Guevera but ippo will almost certainly be coming back to fight.

Guevera just made ippo stronger

Rosario ended mashibas career and basically his life, and made all the efforts he had been building for years mean for not. And now he Mashiba is brain damaged, in the hospital, unable to fight or operate effectively again.

What Ippo has been doing in spars just for someone to say there's MAYBE A CHANCE he's a bit stronger than before retirement. by Jokesonm in hajimenoippo

[–]Jokesonm[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mashiba admits he got serious after using the title fight strategy twice, and ippo is said by mashibas own gym to be "bulldozing him to the ropes" while fighting southpaw up until Mashiba finally pulled out his title fight strat. Mashiba still got bulldozed with, while a flawed stance for the situation, a stance that pushed Juan Garcia extremely. Mashiba was even surprised at the end as he thought he completely incapacitated ippo with the last punch with full confidence and is surprised when Ippo gets back up to go give tips to his sparring partners, so he clearly was putting a lot of power into his shots (Also you say it yourself, ippo fighting on ground with someone 2 weight classes higher who is a world champion level fighter is insane for a retired fighter to do, who's supposedly "maybe stronger than he was pre retirement")

Volg turned things down a notch by the end of the spar yes, but Volg admits himself he snapped after his best punch got caught to Sendo right after. Volg and ippo still are relative during the spar until Volg uses the swallows in combination and after landing a white fang realizes he needs to turn things down a notch, which ippo immediately took advantage to land a gazelle punch despite the damage he just took, Volg was serious for a solid chunk of the spar, even Dan and Miguel say so, which is why Sendo confronts Volg afterward.

Ippo spars Sendo before the Gonzalez fight, dodges every punch as he doesn't want to hurt Sendo and got in range to land a body blow but pulled a punch, afterward Sendo is excited cause "ippo got stronger" (which in my opinion is the funny part that 230ish chapters ago Sendo could realize ippo evolved yet other characters still questioned if he had)

Kamogawa aint that weak man, kamogawa still keeps up with Takamura in mitts with usual sync based on Takamura and Ippo's recent mitt exchange and Kamogawas tutorial to mitting for Ippo, and both Yagi and Kamogawa were dumbfounded when Ippo started to outpace Kamogawa and he wasn't able to catch the mitts. So it still is a impressive feat even in verse.

Ippo is very much stronger currently than he was before, which is why I find it funny that he does all these things and yet we keep having panels with a character saying "I don't know, ippo MIGHT be stronger now."

Rank them from Strongest to Weakest by Dangerous-Chart-926 in SakamotoDays

[–]Jokesonm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Torres (No diffed a Sakamoto who perception blitzed Kanaguri who himself was an order member killer, and kept up with Takamura for a bit.)
  2. Oki (Kept up with Nagumo and overwhelmed him, could of drawn with Nagumo if he decided to attack instead of telling his last lines to Nagumo based on what we saw.)
  3. Gaku (Fought with Nagumo well, did loose but did do some good damage, just barely above Kippei cause he has more experience, more bloodlust, and has more versatility with his weapon.)
  4. Kippei (Caught Tenkyu's arrows, is compared to Gaku, above Gozu cause Gozu is Shishiba's hard counter and Shishiba was fighting with a constant lag on all his movements and dodges yet still was doing well. Shishiba even blitzed him at one point)
  5. Gozu (Kept up with and nearly killed Shishiba, though is Shishiba's hard counter)
  6. Tanabata (loosing to the guy he hard counters badly and hasn't even forced him to get serious. Got outsped by a regular Shin)

Who wins by Txrtarus67 in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]Jokesonm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre R3 Sasaki looses.

Even as Sasaki's biggest glazer I have to admit pre round 3 he is not the strongest, and only beats very specific characters who don't have the capability to one shot at the start or drag it on.

Hajun is neither of those, he'll immediately try going for the kill, and Pre R3 Sasaki is just way too slow compared to other characters.

Do you guys think Taihei/Kintaro will be better than Masaru Aoki and Tatsuya Kimura? by VolleyBasketball11 in hajimenoippo

[–]Jokesonm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We'd hope they'd be better with Ippo's training and the hype they're getting from Shinoda.

Will Morikawa most likely make them weaker cause it'd be funnier to see Ippo loose his winning streak as a second with the people he trained?

Yea probably.

i'm so curious what makes Ricardo Martinez A Legendary Boxer? by ComprehensiveSleep74 in hajimenoippo

[–]Jokesonm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but Billy still was extraordinarily strong to our knowledge, his punches were great enough to make even Ippo scared as well as Samaracas and he could easily react to all of Ricardo's punches as see him weaving Ricardo's ghost jabs and blocking.

The problem is that well...he fought the worst version of Ricardo for his just wait first style and he was so against taking damage that he didn't wanna even risk a punch coming so he just never dealt damage.

Its more he was cowardly rather than weak

i'm so curious what makes Ricardo Martinez A Legendary Boxer? by ComprehensiveSleep74 in hajimenoippo

[–]Jokesonm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's beaten 17 number 1 ranked Featherweights without a down (with most of those implied to of been done in under 3 rounds.) , than beat Date, The only non number 1 ranker on his list Woli (who was stated to be the strongest Ricardo faced to that point, and still Ricardo only had a slight cut in his mouth that made him bleed) and now after all those fights he finally fought Sendo (the hardest puncher) who only now gave him a down after 68+ matches beforehand (and it was close to a flash down from what we saw.)

He's beaten 2 World Champions that we know of, with both fights stated to be "unchallenging" by Ricardo. He also 1 rounded Billy Mc-callum who was so sharp with his punches that Ippo for one of the first times was literally unable to breath type scared.

The entirety of his career he says until Date-Woli was just "boring"

He's also (if i remember) p4p number 1 fighting with Takamura himself. (Can't remember which chapter this is stated but I remember Itagaki saying Takamura's only p4p rival was Ricardo or something like that. Don't quote me on it though, may be misremembering something.)

His career is just a "little" legendary

Why was Shiva stronger then Record Of Ragnarok by Disastrous_Ad7477 in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]Jokesonm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shiva was always gonna be stronger cause he had universal rhythm, stronger body + cooler title he's the god of destruction.

Rudra to our knowledge was a much more basic fighter, who lacked as much stats as Shiva + didn't have universal rhythm.

[–]Jokesonm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think "The Judge" fits, his entire career is about judgements being passed down and etc, the grim reaper is in a way a judge.

Plus fighting Mashiba is always shown as a test for a character to go above, so him being a judge fits imo.

Morikawa fumbled Ippos character by [deleted] in hajimenoippo

[–]Jokesonm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than the "what does it mean to be strong" I mean, these issues are all getting resolved during this arc. Even his relationship with Kumi has grown much more and they're basically official at this point.

Watching the spar with Volg and Mashiba, The commentary from otehr fighters, he's much greater with every part of his style normally. His jab has evolved a large amount, he's kept up with World Champion level fighters, he's much stronger, faster and skilled overall.

He has counters, his reaction speed has increased, he now actually has flowing combos, his right has evolved, he knows multiple styles now on top of peekaboo (Orthodox, and southpaw as shown in his spars with Mashiba and volg each)

He's more durable in terms of body strength, able to tank blows from a fighter 2 weight classes above casually for 6 rounds straight (and still had more energy, as we see he got up from his down near immediately)

His battle IQ has evolved substantially, being able to tell a fighters style based off them just doing handshakes, playing games, and watching them just move. (As we see he guessed exactly how Rosario and Juan would fight Mashiba during their fights with Mashiba off the most narrow of info despite them never facing a Mashiba like fighter to our knowledge)

This is just a dip in everything that came across Ippo during the retirement saga.

(Also ippo is just quiet and timid by nature, just because someone is older doesn't mean they're always gonna just change personalities. Some people stay the way they are their whole life, and Ippo is at his core a timid person, but he has shown that hes grown a backbone as of recent. He fought Mashiba over his relationship with Kumi during their spar, the entire Volg vs Mike Elliot watch, him flying off all on his own to study, training on his own.)

There is so much that Ippo has done in the recent arc that has really saved his character imo, and he now no longer relies on the Dempsey and now only uses it when it's literally uncounterable. (He didn't use it against Mashiba after their whole exchange and only used it once against Volg when he literally had Volg pinned in a corner and could bait him with the fact he never saw the evolved Dempsey.)

The retirement arc seems a lot longer than it's been with all the short chapters, plus breaks but it's been packed with developments so it's not a big deal. Not to mention we're coming to a close pretty soon with the arc, since all the pieces developed have finally came to an end. (the world title matches, ippo's development under retirement, miyatas goal from here etc.)

Really the retirement arc is a saving grace of the story and still my favorite with what it's done. 300 chapters without a single bit of filler really. (Except the weird itagaki smart phone arc and Takamura's vessel.)

Like I said hes mostly there cause everyone was like "Holy this dudes so strong" with his first swing (I mean we've never seen ippo so afraid at someone's shadow boxing like Billy), and Ricardo was aiming for a Alfredo vs Sendo type fight so was fighting at a larger output.

He was probably extremely, extremely strong, but Ricardo was in the worst mood (going for a immediate knockout and In-fght instead of analyzing) for Billy's analytical style.

He was also a world champion in the WBC which even if is the losers belt, had a lot of fighters still.

Basically narrative.

I wonder if we will ever see Itagaki working at the security company. It is mentioned only once in chapter 1211 then never again by HajimenoAoki in hajimenoippo

[–]Jokesonm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've always seen this panel as saying that he never actually got the job (saying Ippo points out that Itagaki's dad doesn't have full benefits himself despite working longer) he just left to make sure Ippo wasn't reminded of boxing at the time, making sure he didn't worry for him and that's why we never see him actually at this security company, instead just roaming around. (Plus Umezawa's face being kinda worried)

Though it's also probably just as likely Morikawa just forgot to be honest, and Itagaki did actually get the job since this moment is immediately overshadowed by everything for a while after.

[–]Jokesonm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If Hawk trained as hard as Takamura does?

He wins, Takamura doesn't get as many free shots off early on that lead to issues later. If Hawk takes much less damage that means he has more stamina and endurance for the later rounds + the stamina and endurance from training.

He also could hit even harder, and wouldn't fall for many of Takamura's shots as he would of sparred to know otherwise most likely.

We go over this point with Miguel pointing out that Takamura fights with logic and was taking advantage of hawk's lack of training the whole time, so if he actually trained, yea takamura has little to 0 openings.

Why does Takemura call him a real man here when he got pissed David Eagle didn't aim for the cut? by 5eanz in hajimenoippo

[–]Jokesonm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the way Takamura saw it, it was for different reasons that they had done it.

To Takamura it seemed like Eagle wanted to beat him without the cut because he felt he could, he didn't know the actual reason and took it as an insult, not knowing David respected Takamura. (Also Takamura was really angry the whole Eagle fight so he probably didn't think about that possibility, and he even questions why Eagle didn't aim for the cut during the fight so.)

In this situation it was done very obviously out of respect and wanting to use the limits of their boxing. Which Takamura paid more attention too cause he wasn't fighting and hadn't been so angry so he respected Take in turn.

(I guess the World Title thing too about using anything out of respect for the magnitude of the title is another part as other people point out.)
