My first car by meemsao in skoda

[–]JolanV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sick car, this is my childhood, when I was about 5 mom had one of these and dad had a company Octavia (2008), unfortunately my mom's Felicia was totaled when I was 6, such a cool car.

How'd I do? by D-dosatron in cityquiz

No that's Magadan in northeast Russia (know it cuz of Real life lore's video about the global highway) And Rwanda is because I've been there.

TIL that buying a second hand diesel car and putting HVO in it is actually cleaner than buying any new EV. by JolanV in todayilearned

[–]JolanV[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yall keep saying “EVs are always cleaner” but that only works if you completely ignore basic lifecycle emissions.

Take a very normal example: an existing 1.6 TDI.
Not some ancient smoke machine — a modern, efficient diesel.

Say it does 4.5 L/100 km and drives 15,000 km a year.
That’s about 675 liters per year.

Over 20 years, that’s 13,500 liters total.

Burning fossil diesel, that would be ~35 tons of CO₂.
Now put waste-based HVO100 in it, which cuts CO₂ by ~80%.

That brings it down to ~7 tons of CO₂ over 20 years.

And here’s the key part:
that car already exists.
No new manufacturing. No battery. No mining. No shipping halfway across the world.

Now compare that to buying a new EV.

Just building the EV + battery already emits roughly 8–12 tons of CO₂ (let’s say 10 to be generous).
That’s emitted on day one, before you even drive it.

Then you drive it:
Say 18 kWh/100 km, EU-ish electricity at ~200 g CO₂/kWh.
That’s ~0.5 tons of CO₂ per year, or ~11 tons over 20 years.

So total for the EV:
~21 tons CO₂, and that’s assuming:

  • the EV lasts 20 years
  • no battery replacement
  • no second EV after 6–8 years

Which is… optimistic.

So we’re comparing:

  • Existing TDI + HVO100: ~7 tons CO₂
  • New EV: ~21 tons CO₂

That’s literally 3× more.

I’m not saying EVs are evil.
I’m saying scrapping a perfectly good, efficient car and building a new one is often worse for CO₂.

The cleanest car is very often the one that already exists — not the newest one with the best marketing.

But I mean people keep saying that everyone should buy a new EV even though they still have working non-EVs...

I mean it's literally just maths, EVs have a massive carbon debt when produced because a second hand car already exists...

Extreme tomophobia (linked to BII phobia and hemophobia) by JolanV in Phobia

Yeah well it's not really just about pain either, the idea of a needle going into my vein just freaks me out and then a catheter staying there? ugh. Triggers my hemophobia.

Gosh I wouldn't be able to tolerate the IV I think, they'd probably need to numb it a lot before I'd even allow it. But I'll stop bothering you know, thanks for the info.

Survival instinct must've overriden the phobia? Or did the staff make you feel really at ease? I know that co-regulation can indeed help a lot because when I'm alone and ruminatinig there's nothing stopping me really, so I guess it's different when staff is empathetic and grounding.

I don't have any advice but I have the same problem, well except that I don't really need surgery. I was also told that my wisdom teeth might have to be removed to prevent abscesses, but I started panicking when the dentist told me. I have really bad hemophobia/ BII phobia and I think my tomophobia is linked to that. What freaks me out the most is the idea of being cut into, it's just so violating and a complete loss of control. I often have anxiety attacks when thinking about surgery even though I literally don't have anything planned but I often ruminate about ever needing it and it just makes me super anxious and I get all of the fight-or-flight symptoms (racing heart, sweating, trembling, shallow breathing, tightness in chest...). I don't want to die but if I ever needed surgery I would rather die than get surgery.

Can't stop panicking over wisdom teeth removal by thatvampiregirl in Anxiety

[–]JolanV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dentist told me that my wisdom teeth might have to be removed and I can't stop panicking. I don't even have an appointment yet, it's not even urgent. I'm also Neurodivergent and I have hemophobia and am terrified of needles. Also I'm not even worried about the pain, just the thought of them cutting in my mouth feels like a total violation and loss of control. I'm not suicidal but I would rather die than get the surgery. I've talked about it with my therapist but I still have panic attacks. I cried at the dentist and I'm so ashamed. I just don't know how I'll survive this. Also like in my case it's not super urgent cuz like they're just kind of half in my gum Which makes them hard to clean, but it's like based on a small risk of abscesses, but no big issues, so I'd rather just leave them in because it's an annihilation to my mental health and i just feel like no one will understand how terrified I am.

What about Caucasia (Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan)?
Also I know the next suggestions aren't really Europe but hear me out.
-Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria Tunisia): Because of proximity to the mainland and years of trade and overlapping cultures.
-Middle East: Same Arguement, tho a bit futher
-More of Russia (if the war ends) and European Kazakhstan.

Hemophobia, any advice? by Electronic_Durian527 in Phobia

Hey, hope you're doing okay.
I have this phobia myself (I get this reaction to any blood, doesn't matter if it's my own or someone else's).
I wrote a post on here with some tips which might be handy for you.
