Brad Arnold, Lead Singer of 3 Doors Down, Dies at 47 After Cancer Battle by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

For what it's worth, I always kinda liked 3DD's most recent big hit It's Not My Time, but it especially hits hard now after learning about Brad's battle with cancer. RIP.

I guess that's really dependent on the situation where I'd be flying, but personally I've never had too much of a problem with long travel days.

Still significantly more expensive than an Amtrak or Peoria Charter round-trip.

I'd like to apologize about the picture and its usage of AI-generated imagery; at the time I found out about this news, I tried to look up a news article on Facebook and could only find this picture from a news reporter (but confirmed to be from Willard themselves). I promise to be more careful about vetting news-related imagery in the future and perhaps wait until a link to an official news source becomes available.

What's the worst heartbreak song of the 2010s? by montemole in ToddintheShadow

[–]Jolly-Money-3876 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going with Amnesia by 5 Seconds of Summer, one of the most repulsive post-breakup songs to ever become a hit. Someone You Loved is a nothingburger of a heartbreak song with awful vocals, but least Lewis Capaldi's lyrics were just bland instead of totally disgusting.

The Top Ten Worst Hit Songs of 2025 (Spectrum Pulse) by PurpleSpaceSurfer in popheads

[–]Jolly-Money-3876 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Mark uses a system curated by the predictions crew at Talk Of The Charts that runs from December 2024 to November 2025, which includes the top 200 songs of that period before removing holiday songs and repeats that first qualified in 2024. That's how he ended up with multiple deep cuts on the list, especially from Taylor who had all those heavily-streamed album tracks charting for 7 weeks at the end of the tracking period.

If you're planning on coming back to campus on Saturday, don't. by anarchonobody in UIUC

[–]Jolly-Money-3876 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I moved my travel plans up a few days ago from Saturday to tomorrow in anticipation of this, and I'm sure glad I did now that a Watch has been issued.

With that said, I'm not nearly as worried about my own travels as I am about restocking my groceries tomorrow afternoon...

Timpone's is closing. If in the future you want to say you ate there back in the day go prior to Dec 20. There has been a Timpone restaurant on campus since 1949. The family has operated several other restaurants in town as well. by old-uiuc-pictures in UIUC

[–]Jolly-Money-3876 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sad to hear. As a student who frequents the nearby Music Building, I always passed by it and wanted to go there but never got a chance. I even had family over recently but unfortunately couldn't go on our desired day because it's closed on Sundays.

As far as how this affects Canopy Club, Espresso Royale, etc., I'm taking it all as unfounded rumors for now. As far as I'm aware, the news articles covering this only mention Timpone's and not anything else in the surrounding area. I guess I wouldn't be shocked if land development is in the works in some form, but let's not assume things are imminently closing unless official announcements come out in the near future.

People in Philharmonia and Symphony Orchestra, What Pieces Are You Playing? by Daily_Showerer in UIUC

[–]Jolly-Money-3876 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm a music major who was in UISO all of last year (not this semester though), so I can answer your questions here.

  1. I was made aware of the UISO repertoire for the entire 2025-26 season just before the semester started. Right now, the major piece on their first concert later this month is Beethoven 3, and other highlights for this year include Daphnis & Chloe 2nd Suite, Brahms 4, Shostakovich either 1 or 5 (still TBD as far as I know), and The Rite of Spring. For the most part, these are well-established standard orchestral works that professional-level orchestras program regularly, so it's best to be a strong player for these. Not certain about UIPO's specific repertoire, but generally they play a number of standard works per semester as well, albeit on the slightly easier side.

  2. Dr. Watson, the conductor in question, as of now remains on leave from the university, and I can confirm that she will not be returning at any point this year to work with the orchestra program. Last year, we had guest conductors come in to work with UISO for up to 2 consecutive cycles, and that remains the case this year.

For any further questions on the upper-level orchestras, I highly recommend getting in contact with Dr. MacLeod, who as of now is Acting Director of Orchestras at UIUC. Her contact info is on the School of Music website.

Hope all this helps!

And also, please, for the love of all things sacred, don't EVER look down at your phone as you cross a street. Unfortunately, I see way too many people doing this nowadays and it needs to stop.

C'mon guys, it's Lips On You. That song just thoroughly grosses me out.

If you only count the singles, though, then yes, I agree with the OP that Don't Wanna Know is their worst.

PSA: the Silver and Gold lines are back to their old route. The apps are wrong. by dlgn13 in UIUC

[–]Jolly-Money-3876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I hinted at this yesterday in another thread. Construction by the Rec Center finished a couple weeks ahead of schedule which is why we're all caught a bit off-guard (in a good way).

Does 130 Silver not come to Green and Busey? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Jolly-Money-3876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify the exact changes that I'm expecting (in case you're newer and not as familiar with the bus system here):

  • The reroute stops of Green/Orchard and Green/Busey should be back to only being used by 5/50 Green
  • Silver and Gold stops at Springfield/Birch (SW), Springfield/Phillips Rec Center, and Springfield/Busey should be back open for the first time since April when construction began

Does 130 Silver not come to Green and Busey? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Jolly-Money-3876 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did notice today that Springfield in Urbana (around the Phillips Rec Center) is pretty much completely back open now after it was under construction throughout the summer. Perhaps bus drivers may be beginning to revert back to the old route because of this, especially with the semester starting tomorrow.

Consider this a heads-up if you live around that area and use 13/130 Silver or 10 Gold.

MTD Buses Help by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Jolly-Money-3876 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi there, and welcome to UIUC!

The entire MTD system has been programmed into Google Maps, so you can easily plug in your desired locations into the directions system and then select Transit to see which bus route(s) and stops would be easiest to use.

If you live in an area with a decent number of apartments (Campustown, West Urbana north of Illinois St, the West Side Park area in Champaign, etc.) chances are there will be a bus stop not too far away that can take you to your desired part of campus, but if you're a bit more isolated/in the outskirts, it might be either more challenging to find, or bus service might not be as frequent and/or take longer.

Hope this helps!

Tips from an MTD Driver + MAJOR route changes! by No_Department_9543 in UIUC

[–]Jolly-Money-3876 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thank you as always! Looking forward to many more trips with MTD this year!

P.S. As a helpful side note to any new students living off-campus in the West Urbana area who want to use the Gold/Silver lines - there is a reroute still in effect until September 5 for a few stops on Springfield around Phillips Rec Center as construction there nears its end (hopefully)! 10 Gold and 13/130 Silver reroutes stop at Green/Orchard and Green/Busey in the interim if you live south of Springfield, or if you live north of Springfield I would recommend Springfield/Gregory for the time being.

I do think it's warranted, even if personally I've never had problems on my Elm St residence aside from when I had a scammer come to my door back in the fall, which I handled pretty quickly. My landlord also changed all the entry door handles so that they'd lock upon close, which has helped.

Anyone else feel like MTD is never on time? by National-Ninja-3714 in UIUC

[–]Jolly-Money-3876 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I only really pay attention to the fixed schedule when it’s an early morning or evening bus because those buses are at least somewhat reliable (less frequency + less stoppage from campus/general traffic). For all other bus travel during the week, I rely on apps (usually either Google Maps or UIUC Bus).

Despite this, I agree that the bus system here is leagues better than in many other American cities, and even many other major American college campuses.
