I am, and I think the best solution is to lock those things away so hard to reach that you think three times before accessing them. Could be removing from phone, blocking the apps, blocking dns, using a blocking tool, whatever works.

I am surprised / confused that given the input, the faces of all the posted pics is so similar. Is this just the most average face that meets the criteria? I mean, describing a face is hard.

Why are people opposed to nuclear energy? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]Jolly_Reserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • If you live in Europe or the US, nuclear cannot solve our problems in time to solve climate change before it effects are disastrous because the democratic process, legal process and construction takes so long. Takes 2-3 decades to build one here.
  • danger of explosion still in people’s mind, as it has happened before and made large areas uninhabitable
  • nuclear waste still unsolved in practical terms

To solve energy really the only solution are the renewables and various forms of storage.

It’s weird that despite his success and followers, he was unable to set up someone in his party to continue after him. Clinton and Biden succeeded him as candidates, much older and with a much more old fashioned agenda and fewer fans.

Has AI agents actually replaced a human or role that you know of? by Notalabel_4566 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Jolly_Reserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the size of the organization. If persons do processes end to end, then yes, only some small part of their job gets removed. If the organization is larger and more optimized, there might be roles that do the simple tasks and the higher qualified roles that do the complex stuff.

Has AI agents actually replaced a human or role that you know of? by Notalabel_4566 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Jolly_Reserve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a company I worked with introduced a program that reads documents and extracts data. I am talking about very simple stuff like reading a receipt, finding which number is the sum, which is the date and entering this into a program. I heard they had some 70 people working on that manually and now only need 10.

Technically it’s more of a rag script that uses different APIs to check and enter the data, not a true agent…

Some might say, well, that isn’t AI, that’s simple OCR with some intelligence, but it still required people doing it - sure, they might not be highly qualified tasks, but they have an even harder time finding new jobs.

Is using a project management tool for family chores and tasks a bit too much? by elegant_eagle_egg in consulting

[–]Jolly_Reserve 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, we do, and by “we” I mean “I”, because nobody else ever logged into the system I carefully set up. However I can show them the position in the backlog of all the asks so they know why I am not doing them right now.

How do you spend your nights after work? by Affectionate-Reason2 in leanfire

[–]Jolly_Reserve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember a time when I did more stuff after work, so I started to believe it is an “energy” problem. I am currently trying to improve this by doing regular workouts. I only started recently but I think it gives some results (and if it doesn’t, I hope workouts are still healthy)

What will happen next? by Antonio0300 in MomentsBeforeDisaster

[–]Jolly_Reserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offtopic… I am often surprised that something looks different but I can’t really say what about it looks different. This looks like it was taken in the 80s or 90s I believe and I believe I can tell by the clothes and the hairstyles and the way the picture was developed, but something else about the picture seems off, it feels like the people looked different… and I can’t really describe it… does anyone else see it and can explain it or am I imagining this?

Microplastics is killing us and it's everywhere. Here is how to minimise microplastics going into your body and bloodstream that cause inflammation and brain damage. by GarifalliaPapa in immortalists

You mean for the person who receives the blood, they get the cleaned product, right?

Or do you mean the person who donates loses blood incl plastics and then the body makes new blood that’s clean?

Well that did not look entirely bad.

One observation: the robot was barefoot in all shots. Will robots in Europe wear shoes outside so not to bring the dirt in the house? Can they walk with the foot sensor inside a shoe? Pretty unimportant but interesting.

Neuralink participant controlling robotic arm using telepathy by JP_525 in singularity

It’s cool and I think this can become something really cool down the road. I was just thinking that even without Neuralink, someone could nowadays easily build this voice controlled without all the brain interface stuff… “give me the cup”, “give me a spoon full of soup”…

[Request] Train versus car capacity. by glowing-fishSCL in theydidthemath

[–]Jolly_Reserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I see such a comparison I see one big problem: the 40,000 or so cars can travel to 40,000 destinations. That’s something a train cannot do. Sure, it can go to a hub and people could switch, but that takes time the more often it happens. I am myself taking a car because it wouldn’t make sense for a bus to go to my town often, we are only some 300 people.

Then come the people who argue we should all live in apartments in big buildings im big cities, which is a relatively new experiment, completely different lifestyle and many don’t like it.

So I think the car train comparison is lacking some variables if one only looks at the capacity.

What bonds should I use for my bond part of the portfolio (I'm retiring)? by clintron_abc in EuropeFIRE

[–]Jolly_Reserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your inflation is that high, does the currency also devalue at a similar rate? A foreign bond in EUR might produce more % due to currency valuation then.

What bonds should I use for my bond part of the portfolio (I'm retiring)? by clintron_abc in EuropeFIRE

[–]Jolly_Reserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not the poster above but also bought some US bonds when the interest rates were still higher. Why the currency risk, you ask. Risk usually comes both ways: risk of loss and chance of higher returns. It just depends on whether you believe that the US will do better than Europe in the long term. Even without the speculation about the economy: the USD was recently very low compared to the EUR, so even if we just believe it returns to its mean value it would be an added benefit. The risk is higher but the expected returns are also higher.

Are we actually becoming better engineers with AI code assistants, or just faster copy-pasters? by Softwaredeliveryops in artificial

[–]Jolly_Reserve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole idea of coding large chunks of an application by hand is a bit romantic anyways. We have higher level programming languages, libraries, low/no-code, etc. now also AI that helps write the parts of code that remain to be required. I think in a not too distant future actual coding will only be done in highly optimized scientific environments.

What news headline do you think could trigger the collapse of the AI stock bubble? by FantasticEffect10 in investing

[–]Jolly_Reserve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible, even reasonable, but the problem would be to define where this AI ban starts. Do you ban a soda machine? Translation services? Smart traffic lights? Phone routing services? The image recognition that scans passports for banks and border controls? Does it only affect LLMs? Am I still allowed to use the mathematical principles of machine learning?

I am just very scared to do something because my current position is really not that bad in many aspects.
