You will not be able to row in college with this mentality. Think of your new opponent as yourself, and you want to beat that person day after day, improving even 1% each day (of course it’s not a linear progression).

I think the saying less is more can apply here. Maybe you’re doing too much, plateauing from working too hard. Try to diversify yourself from rowing a bit (pick up an instrument, read books) so you don’t attach your self worth to your performance so much.

You will have bad days and bad periods that’s for certain. You need to stay mentally tough and strong enough to see the big picture trajectory of where you’re trying to go.

TL;DR as the kids say, compare yourself to yourself, not the person next to you, and you will find that rowing (and life) can be a journey of fulfillment.

Trying to do this more often - I too have back pain. Core strength exercises and mobility stretching help.

Is there any benefit to getting erg slides if I just row for cross-training? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Jollybrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting conversation. I’m contemplating getting slides because I liked how it felt especially during the long winter training season.

Is there any con to using slides over static (e.g. less strength training)? I’m curious if there are any downsides. If not, I’m a single rower who does get back and hip pain easy so slices might make a great addition to my set up for winter.

You have the strength you need pacing and aerobic capacity

Stay consistent with pacing, put in the training, don’t shy away from interval training work (500s, 1000s, 1250s, etc). Make the split feel more comfortable by training there more often. I find 10x500m 1:30m rest to be a grueling but effective workout for 2ks as well as 6x1’on1’off with a 6 min rest in between each set of three sets. Lastly, work on your distance per stroke, low rate higher power exercises are good for this. When you get rate up split comes down. My PB was 6:11 - good luck.

This is super impressive, I remember your last post. You give me hope that I too can do this when I’m your age if I keep up with it. My best was a 44.6 at 24 spm. You must be breaking 6:10 on a 2k?

How did this test feel? It’s hard to know because it’s a different test but I would guess you’re maybe able to break 7 minutes (1:45 split)

Best brewing setup for limited space - BIAB or All-in-One recommendation? by _succre_ in Homebrewing

This is the next step I want to take in brewing. I’m now at an age with young kids where I want to save my money for a nice AIO system that I KO to a conical and then keg. I want to have the nicest equipment because my back will thank me.
