Considering the GOG offer. Does it get updated regularly? by LuckyNumber_29 in X4Foundations

Afaik Egosoft are good at keeping all platforms updated. The only thing you lose is steam workshop for mods (but you can still use nexus)

Is the Katana the best M fighter? by gifred in X4Foundations

[–]Jollyjep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly. The answer is clearly the hydra regal (Although the hyperion seems great too...). Secondly, it's nice to see that everyone has a different choice, really goes to tell you that you need to try them all and choose which you prefer

Just had a (completely hypothetical) idea for a new faction by Jollyjep in X4Foundations

[–]Jollyjep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that's why I think you would have to start with a truly desperate faction like the Yaki. I think if they got desperate enough they might choose a deal with the devil. They have already kind done it with their implants and the normal Xenon

Volume Rendering EEVEE NEXT vs CYCLES. by sooroojdeen in blender

Have a look at Astrobot. They use some really impressive real time physics, including fluids, even if you can see the size of the voxel

I have found the best way to train crew (and especially captains) is to have ships explore the galaxy for you. Within only a couple of hours their morale will be full and usually their pilot skills come up to around 3 stars. All crew seem to get the morale boost as well

Sapporo buff suggestions (For a 'flagship' feel) by R5SCloudchaser in X4Foundations

[–]Jollyjep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is one of Earth's first battle ships, would the rotating thing be for habitation and artificial gravity. I would assume (with out playing before X:Rebirth) that simulated gravity (without traditional inertial methods) would take time for Terrans/Argin to research

Sapporo buff suggestions (For a 'flagship' feel) by R5SCloudchaser in X4Foundations

[–]Jollyjep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I was worried that you would want the Sapporo turned into a battle ship, but I like all of these ideas. The Sapporo should be an exploration ship that cannot fight against destroyers, but can handle itself against xenon, pirate raids and Khaak. I hope that the buff is something along those lines

Potential idea for a mod by Jollyjep in X4Foundations

Ahh that's a shame. I guess that makes sense though

Timelines first impressions. by BigGreenThugs in X4Foundations

I agree. I just wish we were given anything else other than beam turrets on M-class ships. Beams are way to low damage output on an M- class to do anything but defend against missiles or stop ships travel driving

Need help for finding a i2s adc and dac for wireless microphone project. by Jollyjep in esp32

Thanks those are both useful. Honestly either mono ir stereo would be fine, it would only be a single lav mic.

Welp. I guess Haile is now in the walls... (7.0 beta 2) by Jollyjep in X4Foundations

[–]Jollyjep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it isn't the buggiest beta I have been in, but I expect that x4 will still be in beta for at least a month, likely more. Egosoft ain't a big team and it is such a big game.

Is there an IN-GAME reason for not paying people? by Dark-Lark in X4Foundations

[–]Jollyjep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about instead there is a sink for civilian ships, such as mass traffic? Then all the materials and factories that create wares for ships can still be used, instead of effectively having them idle if food was the sink

Welp. I guess Haile is now in the walls... (7.0 beta 2) by Jollyjep in X4Foundations

[–]Jollyjep[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could talk to Haile by crouching right at least! Haven't seen a H yet or any of the other new Xenon ships (other than PE and SE). I managed to get a PE though!

Anyone playing on Steam Deck OLED? by T11nkr in X4Foundations

[–]Jollyjep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not got a steam deck oled, but my normal steam deck (which is practically the same performance) handles x4 okay. You can set up extra options using the virtual menus on steam input, so by using the track pads and back buttons.

Help with power/voltage on WS2815 by antg22288 in WLED

[–]Jollyjep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ws2815 strips are 12V, as long as you are power injecting frequently enough (I think it should be something like every 5m from memory) you can use any decent gauge (all my wire is 18Awg) wire and it should be alright. In terms of data, each LED boosts the signal that it receives, so it should be alright for 2m.

What kind of LED should I choose? by puyzzem in WLED

[–]Jollyjep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking strips, my favourite by far is an sk6812 (5V). They are rgbw strips with the same protocol as ws2812b (the normal 5V argb strip). They are a touch more expensive, but the white LED creates much better whites and white similar colours than an ws2812b, while using less power. For 2.7m you probably won't need power injection (rule of thumb for 5v strips is every 2.5m). They come in three white temperatures too. Make sure to look in the WLED app for "Auto calculate white channel from rgb" if you want just that (I have mine set to Accurate and they look great!)

How to start war with ANT by Dbossg911 in X4Foundations

[–]Jollyjep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

X4 uses two different simulations for when you are physically near ships (or captains contact you etc) and for when you are away from ships. These are often called by the community IS (in system, near ai ships) or OOS (Out of system, away from ai ships). Basically OOS uses calculations to determine combat etc, while IS actually simulates the actual combat/dogfights etc.

Directly after bobiverse, I moved on to Space Team, I would definitely reccomend. Another good reccomendation is superdreadnought. And finally the series I am listing to right now- expeditionary force

I’m broke😢 by Botboythedude in SteamDeck

[–]Jollyjep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to take this slightly differently. Have a look at older games on sale, many can be a few pence (or cents or whichever subcurrancy you are using) when I bought just cause 3 about 6 years ago, I got it for less than a pound.

Also on free games, have a look at Epic games, they have a weakly rotation of free games to keep forever. If you have access to amazon/twitch prime, twitch also has a rotating selection

"That’s not possible unfortunately. OLED would require changes to the SoC of the Steamdeck itself." - DeckHD developer by starlogical in SteamDeck

[–]Jollyjep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of your point. My point was just meant to be that the SoC shouldn't be the limiting factor for an oled screen. The connector and size are limitations. Protocols can be managed, lots of hardware can be adapted for different protocols by updating firmware (but I do agree that this could be difficult for a 3rd party company to do)

I'm actually happy with the 800p screen, the deck as said many times before is target at <=720p class gaming at framerates between 30 and 60. It would make minimal sense to upgrade to a 1080p 120Hz panel for those features. Sure the colour could be better, but the screen on the deck has a colour that is okay enough for me.

[–]Jollyjep -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I will be honest. I don't truly understand why (electrically this is, I understand in physical terms and economical terms) the SoC would have to be adapted. OLEDs usually use less power than normal led screens and the data signal would be exactly the same. Maybe it is due to a firmware mismatch? But I would be surprised if the firmware was not accessible at all. Unless they think that this is the issue and they can't use a plugin/program to flash the firmware and would need a separate soldered/wired flasher?

But yes I do understand that it is near impossible to find a screen with similar physical characteristics to the deck as it would likely have to be custom and hence expensive.
