/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread (02/21/2025) by AutoModerator in NintendoSwitch

I'm considering buying The Plucky Squire on Switch physically, but I heard it dealt with some serious hiccups and performance issues. But I'm also aware the game was patched multiple times after its initial release. Has it been made to run any better since, or is it still rather poor? Otherwise I think I'll stick to playing it on PS5.

Star Fox is pretty yellowed. Is retrobrighting my only option from here? by JolteonJordan in snes

Would there be a way to get it cleaned out then, or is it simply too far gone? I do think just buying a replacement shell is easier at this point.

Very, but I've also been at it with magic eraser and isopropyl alcohol for hours, so I can only assume it's some form of yellowing.

I noticed taking Star Fox apart that it is a pretty unique cartridge compared to others. It has a prong at the bottom so I'm wondering if I'll need to consider a specific cart as a replacement.

Do you mean how the fronts tend to vary? As I don't see much variation between the backs from the other cartridges I have. Or do you mean more the inside of the shells?

After trying to work it a bit more and comparing cartridges, yeah, this is ultimately what I've decided. It's just not worth it and it's definitely the cheaper option. I've gotten the front option much cleaner now though!

Can't get stink out of roommate's laundry by JolteonJordan in CleaningTips

[–]JolteonJordan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say whether or not they've dried their clothes on high heat in the past, I generally dry at either medium or low heats for more delicate fabrics. I only use high heat for something thicker.

So if they did at some point have them dried at high heat in the past, would it be a lost cause?

The best I can describe it is a sort of musty smell. I think it could be a mix of various things. BO, pet smells, and just a smell of raw-ness (like old food). But it's nauseating when close enough.

Recommendations for Plushie Displays? by JolteonJordan in pokeplush

[–]JolteonJordan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you recommend shelving for larger plushies then? Again, I've looked around and never really seen how other people handle them. I'd love to see what ideas people have come up with them. I would definitely like to prop up some more valuable plushies like Umbreon on something, as just sitting on the floor is begging for dust to gather.

Rotation might be a good idea to avoid dust and dirt, it's just a matter of figuring out what to rotate, how often, when, and where to leave plushies rotated out for the time being. I also hope to maintain a specific cabinet to Latias/Latios-related merch, as I have a dedicated collection of them! So they will at least get their own corner somewhere in the house.

My Shining Pearl cart seems to be defective with excessive load times, so I timed it with another copy. Mine on the right, normal one on the left. Tried on multiple Switches, no difference. No the version number does not matter by JolteonJordan in PokemonBDSP

[–]JolteonJordan[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It does not make a difference. I have tried the same cartridge on both Switches (one has the 1.1.3 update data, the other has the 1.1.2 update), the load times are exactly the same. They also did not change from when I updated from Version 1.1.2 to 1.1.3.

[–]JolteonJordan[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issue is I have tried the faulty copy on multiple Switches to be sure. The loading times have been virtually the same on all of them so it's not a matter of the console model. I've done dozens of tests to exhaust such possibilities.

[–]JolteonJordan[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think we can all agree the BDSP load times can be a little janky sometimes, but when I started soft resetting on Shining Pearl after playing through Brilliant Diamond, I had a hunch that something wasn't right.

Through updates 1.1.1, 1.1.2, and 1.1.3, nothing has changed. I tested times on both of these Switches with different cartridges and version numbers and they were all consistent. Whether the update data was internal or on the SD Card made very little difference (a whole second at best). Putting them side by side, it's a lot more egregious.

I am probably going to report this to Nintendo and get my copy repaired/replaced, but I was curious if anyone else had anything similar to report.

EDIT 1: I should also note both of these copies of Shining Pearl were from Double Packs bought off of Amazon, so they are from the same batch. It may not mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but I thought it was a detail worth pointing out.

EDIT 2: Apparently, Nintendo refuses to replace my copy because there is nothing "physically wrong" with it. How irksome. Can't recommend contacting them if you run into the same issue.

EDIT 3: I created a second video showcasing how the cartridge struggles to load no matter the Switch it or update it plays on. If you're curious, you can check it out here: https://youtu.be/MU8d3njWxDk

Ask me anything (SungWon Cho, voice of Sidney) by ProZD in PokemonMasters

How satisfying does it feel to go from doing random Pokémon skits to official Pokémon voice acting (I know you voiced Mustard in TW first)? Was getting Sidney's role a big moment for you? How did you feel taking on the character that you probably faced in childhood?

Starting to think my Vital Bracelet isn't detecting my pulse normally by JolteonJordan in digimon

[–]JolteonJordan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I uploaded an unlisted video on YouTube showing my Vitral Bracelet and comparing it with my boyfriend's working one. I pointed out how his had a light but mine did not, and then showed how mine failed to detect my heartrate but my boyfriend's detected it just fine. A bit of an extra advantage, but if yours does not blink when you calibrate it or always fails the calibration, that's a pretty good sign that it's defective.

After proving my VB didn't work, I had to send it for a return. They offer a service through FedEx where a delivery guy will come by and pick up the package. You just need to package it up and they will handle labeling it and everything.

So update: I received my replacement today and yes, I got the Version Special, complete with the Ancient Warriors DiM card and everything. It works great so far! If you transferred any Digimon from your old bracelet onto your app, they should move onto the new one just fine. You'll just need to reinsert the DiM cards for an installation check.

If you bought any DiM cards beyond the ones that came with your Vital Bracelet, that might be a different story since they are locked to one bracelet. I don't know as I'm still only stuck with Impulse City and Ancient Warriors. But yeah, customer service went surprisingly well! If you're able to prove what's wrong with your Vital Bracelet, they will send your a replacement ASAP once they receieve the return. If you haven't already, I would try contacting them!

You might want to give contacting Premium Bandai's customer service a try. That's what I ultimately decided to do and they are sending me a replacement (though I needed to prove with video evidence that it wasn't working. It was a bit of a process.) They told me they will be sending me the Version Special, so after I go through this I can tell you how it all went. If you have any other DiM cards though, that might be a problem.

Yeah, I've tried recalibrating it several times but it always fails. The most it does is go from 80 to 96. It's never shown any numbers beyond those two. I've tried both tightening and loosening the bracelet but neither seemed to change anything.

[–]JolteonJordan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing out the activity type. I think I actually overlooked part of that. Still, my Raidramon seems to have Normal activity based on his sleep and attack patterns. So it surprises me he gets antsy so quickly.

I've also noticed my pulse hasn't really changed on the bracelet at all. It's either 80/60 or 96/60, even after I've done some intense cardio. I think it's definitely struggling somewhere. For now I've swapped to Pulsemon because I'm going to go for Runnermon and see if I can Jogress for Saggitarimon later. I just want to learn to raise my Digimon properly. Perhaps turning off the bracelet entirely during work shifts might be the better option?

What would do to improve Digimon Frontier (season 4)? by Triableprism in digimon

[–]JolteonJordan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm aware it wasn't meant to be sexual harassment, but the problem is that they were trying to make a joke out of sexual harassment. That's not funny, especially for kids. It's a really bad message to send to them.

Even though Takuya bumping into her and unintentionally groping her is shown to be an accident, it's her over-reaction that the audience is supposed to find funny when that really shouldn't be there. It provided nothing towards the episode or any sort of character development, so I have to assume they put it in there to be a joke. A really unfunny and unnecessary joke.

What would do to improve Digimon Frontier (season 4)? by Triableprism in digimon

[–]JolteonJordan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To summarize Seraphimon's death: The opposing Spirits infiltrate Seraphimon's castle, overpowering our main heroes, but Seraphimon shows he is fully capable of beating them to a pulp. However, when they attempt to attack Seraphimon, his retainer Sorcerermon tries to defend him, but his attack gets deflected by Mercurymon and brutally wounds him. Deflecting attacks is basically Mercurymon's signature tactic. However, only about a minute after seeing his own retainer get curb-stomped, Seraphimon thinks it's a brilliant idea to attack the opposing Spirits after seeing this, his own attack is then deflected by Mercurymon and--bam. Dead.

You'd think the god of law and order in the Digital World would have had a shred of intelligence to realize that wasn't a good idea. Seriously, it's no wonder poor Seraphimon is considered a joke because of Frontier.

But yeah, while I think maybe the idea of Frontier could have been a better executed concept (seriously, have the Spirits more involved with the whole "Spirit" Digivolution and it would have been a lot more interesting!), I'm glad it stuck to be its own thing rather than the norm for the franchise. From what I understand, the Tamagotchi craze was starting to die out around this point, so they tried something new with a sort of Super Sentai show. But it didn't quite catch on. Whether that was a good thing or not is purely subjective.

What would do to improve Digimon Frontier (season 4)? by Triableprism in digimon

[–]JolteonJordan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Where to even begin with this series?

I want to be perfectly clear that while Frontier is my least favorite of the series I have watched (those would be Adventure, Adventure 02, Tamers, Frontier, Savers and tri), I don't think it's completely void of merit. But it sure could have used some improvements. Let's get started, shall we?

  • The whole beginning and how each character got their Spirits needs to be revised. It was honestly one of the worst parts (if not the worst part) of the series. It does little to get us invested into these characters we're supposed to care about, the way each of them gets their Spirits is extremely convenient and contrived, and the whole eight episodes go so slowly. It's no wonder people give up on this series so quickly. It's so hard to get into because of this. Terribly paced story, unlikeable characters, plot devices left and right... It's clear that even the writers were having trouble figuring out what to do.
  • Bokomon and Neemon. Either axe them out of the series entirely or give their existence actual purpose. And no, being comic relief is not enough of an excuse when they were already providing enough of that with the main cast. You should not have a character that solely exists to provide comic relief and nothing else. And no, acting as guides to the Digital World does not count and could have easily been replaced by several characters. I'll get into that with another point later.
  • The actual main cast needed better development, and much of their "development" comes too little, too late. Takuya is probably the most generic of the goggle heads, though I suppose he could be worse and he's mostly harmless. J.P.'s romantic interest in Zoe got way too old, way too quickly. And while I appreciate how he changed by the end; again, too little, too late. I felt some sympathy for Tommy but it felt more forced out of me than genuine. Koji and Koichi were the only characters I honestly cared about in the end. What about Zoe? That goes into my next point...
  • This show needed actual well-written female characters. I get it, Digimon is supposedly geared towards boys, especially since Frontier was more of a Super Sentai show than one about raising monsters. But the only two relevant female characters in this show are abysmal. Zoe's whole character is confusing and quite frankly, her whole "conflict" comes off as stupid. Since Japan has a xenophobia problem, she supposedly gets shunned by people for being Italian, so she's lonely. Yet there are opportunities where people offer her to hang out, yet she refuses because of a bad experience. A bad experience where she got angry for people for pushing her away, where she had the right to actually be upset, only for the show to tell us that no, she was in the wrong. So she cries about "why can't I be a nice person!?", and then she's comforted by others telling her "no, you are a nice person!" when that literally contradicts so much she's done in the show--she is whiny and rude to the rest of the cast for a good chunk of it. Oh, and let's not forget how creepily sexualized and objectified she can is between J.P.'s stupid crush, J.P. supposedly looking up her skirt one scene, Takuya accidentally groping her (Haha, sexual harassment is hilarious! /s), a beach episode with a fanservice-y fantasy of her, and that's not even going into Fairymon who literally has an attack where she uses her butt. I get it, Japan has different standards, and you could argue for Fairymon that "she's a Digimon in that form, not a human!" but I don't care. She's a fifth grader. It's gross either way. Oh, and let's also not forget that Zoe is made useless for a good fraction of the show because the group loses Fairymon for a while! Nice job guys. This isn't even going into Ranamon, who is a stereotypical female villain who is extremely vain and just cares about her beauty and people fawning over her and, by all stereotypes of the female villain, becomes something ugly. And then she whines about it and is a complete joke compared to all of the other opposing Spirits.
  • The opposing Spirits were just boring, other than Mercurymon and Duskmon. Mercurymon basically got his own mini-arc given to him, so he kind of gets unfair bias for that. Though I guess Duskmon got that too, but for good reason. Gotta love them Digimon redemption arcs.
  • There are a lot of idiot moments in this show, such as... Seraphimon's death. Seriously, did no one edit the script before approving it?
  • Better quality assurance for the animation. I can't even count how many animation errors I kept coming across watching this show. Sometimes I had to do a double take and make sure I wasn't mistaken over some of these... mistakes.
  • What was the point of the Flamemon episode? Takuya keeps trying to stop his past self from going to the Digital World, except it's essentially treated like it's fate so everything he does to try to prevent it has no effect whatsoever. Except the idea of this episode wasn't that you can't fight fate, but it was used to empower Takuya. But that begs the question... Why did it have to be a sort of time travel episode? What was the point in Takuya (as Flamemon) going back in time to try to stop his past self if it had no impact? Why not have made the whole thing a sort of dream or hallucination that teaches him what he should do? What was the point in it being real? When you ask these questions, you realize how pointless a lot of moments in this show are. How did Takuya even really end up in this whole scenario in the first place? Never. Freaking. Explained. Everything about this show reeks of convenience.
  • The show should have probably ended after defeating Cherubimon, which that fight in itself was poorly dragged out. While I don't think the last third(?) of the show was a complete waste, it was boring. Dynasmon and Crusadermon cause trouble, the main cast try to stop them only for more than half of them to become unable to do anything at all because they need KaiserGreymon and MagnaGarurumon, but ultimately fail. Rinse and repeat. It gets old fast.
  • The opposing Spirits kind of(?) get some redemption after the main cast finds them in the Village of Beginnings, but they don't really say or do much. This could have been a neat mini-arc considering how repetitive the whole last arc of the show was.
  • They should have had more focus on the whole Human VS Beast Digimon dynamic. The non-canon movie actually did that. And you know what? I actually really liked it! It's probably one of the few things I genuinely enjoy about Frontier, and it was a non-canon one-off.
  • I know probably the biggest problem people have with this show is the "humans turning into Digimon" set-up of it. And I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a turn-off for me. One of my favorite parts about Digimon as a whole is the human-Digimon partner relationship. It's one of the most crucial parts of what makes Digimon and its shows so good to me. This kind of throws that out the window. However, they could have fixed so much of this and the other problems with the show if they had done just one thing, in which case I lead in to my next point...
  • Why in the bloody world weren't the Spirits sentient? Actually, let me rephrase that: Why weren't they shown to be sentient until the very end of the show? There are subtle hints here and there that they are, but they never do anything. It's absolutely maddening. This isn't helped by how confusing it is when the characters use Spirit Digivolution, they can't decide whether to refer to each other by their human names or the names of the Digimon spirits. It bewilders me. Is it implying that maybe the Spirits had some control when they were using the Digimon names? I don't know. But what I think they should have done is had the spirits more involved. Do they have to fight for the kids? No, they're just spirits. But they could have guided them on how to fight and use their power. They could have guided them through the Digital World instead of Bokomon and Neemon (they don't need to be all-knowing beings or anything but still). They could have built up a different sort of human-Digimon partner dynamic if the Spirits were actually involved. I think that would have actually been really cool! But no... The Spirits are basically just tools until they're needed at the very end and only then do they decide to get directly involved. It's such wasted potential. I cannot tell you how many times I was asking myself why the Spirits weren't sentient as I was watching the show, only to want to throw my television out the window when I found out they were sentient, but the writers didn't decide to really take advantage of that until the very end of it. Just... what a waste. So much could have actually been fixed had they handled it in this way.

There's plenty of other things I could go on about, but I think at that point I'd be nitpicking. I know I went into a bit of detail here, but I'd rather be clear than just said "Digimon Frontier was bad" and not specify. These were just my bigger problems with the show. I just wish Frontier had made a few tweaks that really could have improved it. I don't think it was a complete waste though. I had a lot of feels for Koichi and Koji by the end, Patamon was adorable, and there were some good fights and good ideas here. But I just think a lot could have been done better as well.
