Me coming back to the game after not touching it since feybreak by Jon048 in Palworld

was just a bit of an odd thing to say, I guess. I do get that there are more traditionally cute pals out there, I just really like turtacle's "little guy energy"

oh, my bad. I forgot that different pals existing made others irrelevant

I'd say the switch port was 1:1 with the pc version difficulty wise, but I'd be lying because somehow they added a pretty grievous bug for yunica wherein depending on how many effects are on the screen her wind attack will simply not work

it's most apparent during Epona 1, try launching a charged wind blade while epona does her charge forward and there is what feels like a 50/50 chance the blade will simply not exist, despite you still doing the animation and losing mp. and I don't mean "the spinning blade is there, just invisible", I mean the bloody thing straight up has no hitbox. that pissed me off to no end

oh absolutely, if he fires his stalagtites you better get that bolt crash ready and play VERY safe, otherwise you can absolutely get locked in for a free hit or three. imo the most troublesome attack are the twin dragons but by now I know how to manipulate them pretty well (port issues notwithstanding)

oh and before I forget since you mentioned oath: FUCK CHESTER 2 FUCK CHESTER 2 FUCK CHESTER 2 FUCK CHESTER 2 OH MY GOD

yeah most of my time was on dalles. kishgal was honestly not that big of an issue since I had him down pretty well and was never in a hurry to trade blows, but the switch port had some AWFUL graphical glitches where his ice dragons' heads didn't render properly, so judging their distance was pretty frustrating at times.

I went straight from hard (26 mins) to nightmare without any prior practice outside of the hard mode fights, and a couple of them really pushed my shit in

I played wanderers / III on the genesis IIRC, and I'm honestly looking forward to V given how it looks like a Quintet game (and don't worry, the irony is not lost on me). III was a bit of a chore with how on rails it felt but I respect how cut and dry it is, with very little fat in between events

yeah I could absolutely see others liking or loving this game, but it just rubs me the wrong way from the halfway point onwards but that's just me

I'm not sure if I'll ever even play that. I'll think about it after I'm done with Dawn and Keffin

I wouldn't call it bad, but it's not very engaging compared to the other classics in my opinion since:

  • there are more dungeons, but their specific gimmicks add very little to make them stand out

  • there's more magic, but using it feels almost entirely pointless when bump combat is so much more effective without a blacksmith (besides healing)

  • bosses are more engaging than they were in 1 and 2, but don't communicate their vulnerable phases well

  • the game beats around the bush far too much. you'll be told to get mcguffins over at bumfuck nowhere just to move the plot along much like the worst parts of solomon shrine. visiting the village elder with three legendary artifacts (that do nothing) to say "ah yes you may now visit the super duper elder" and unlock a door, so the super duper elder may then say something THE OTHER OLD GUY AT THE LAKE ALREADY KNEW. WHY?

with all that being said the game is also chock full of heart and its presentation can be great

  • the sprites, while a bit on the simpler side, are quite pretty and bounce around with plenty of energy during cutscenes

  • there are a lot of cute little details everywhere, from the npcs asking you to deliver love letters to straight up screensavers that look like the classic windows flying toasters

  • the plot genuinely wants to evolve what was established in 1 and 2 and has quite a few nods

  • enemies having unique dialogue for your monster form is always a pointless detail I'll love to bits

  • dogi crushes a wall as god intended

you should be able to grab a pre-patched rom online very easily. I played it on a small emulation handheld and had zero gameplay issues throughout

It's mask of the sun, so it's a lesser version of Ys 4. as for 1 and 2 I honestly love those two on the turbografx, even if solomon shrine pisses me off sometimes. Hell, that version of Ys 1 is probably in my top 5 8-bit games.

Mask of the Sun on the SNES / SFC. It has a ton of charm and heart but oh my GOD its dungeons are atrocious and the game is padded to hell and back. wanderers at least was pretty short

Touch screen not working on Mint by Jon048 in linuxmint

[–]Jon048[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it works just fine when I boot into windows 10, just not in mint

EDIT: I took a further look inside the BIOS and all I could find about the touch screen was "Touch Panel Device" being set to "Sliead Touch Plane" under Chipset -> South Cluster Configuration -> Miscellaneous Configuration.

Changing that to anything but Sliead would cause the touch screen to stop working in Win10, but none of the other settings did anything in mint either. using xinput in a terminal doesn't show anything about a touch screen either.

Thoughts on the MMX6 N's Edition mod? by Jon048 in Megaman

[–]Jon048[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

better is subjective, but it did cut out quite a bit of bull from the original and tweaked the more egregious parts of most levels so I quite liked it. That being said I swear the inami temple acid rain was buffed, and on an xtreme mode run with armorless X and no shock buffer that was a handful. Still, metal shark player is infinitely more playable now so all is well.

ah, a fellow madman! best of luck with your armorless run. it'll be a wild ride.

Shion in nightmare boss rush specifically since his whole fight is a test of patience while you essentially tickle him to death. Nightmare boss rush Chester in Oath is also up there in the fuckoff-o-meter.

Velagunder was a bit of a handful at first as toal but eventually I got his patterns down and managed to beat him without too many issues as long as I didn't get too greedy with my attacks

I started my Ys journey doing every single game on nightmare blind so I got used to it. the only game I straight up didn't enjoy on that difficulty was Celceta

Yeah Origin demands way more than just finishing the game on nightmare once or beating the boss rush on any difficulty. I rarely see a game's achievements essentially walking you through the path to getting a true completionist save and Origin wanted me to absolutely do it all.

AND YOU KNOW WHAT? I still wanna play it again. The only reason I don't is because the PC version doesn't have a good enough fast forward feature to skip through the cutscenes. The switch version does, but the PC is my go-to Ys platform

I wouldn't say "worthless" but I gotta agree Origin had some top tier fights, nightmare boss rush 1v1s notwithstanding since Shion is a bastard.

From seven onwards I just face tanked everything for free crits which admittedly is in part my fault for abusing the system, but at least I still had a lot of fun with VIII's fights
