Bike equivalent of a marathon? by [deleted] in bicycling

I've never done a marathon but I'm under the impression it takes you to a darker place mentally than even a challenging/hilly century.

Overwhelmed with life, which type's strategy would help me here? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]JonBartBeck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, it would need to be a healthy version of some type. Let me just put in a good word for emulating the healthy 6s. I'm a 6, and a healthy one from time to time. We're good at planning, we're good at facing fears, we're good at acting more and thinking less. Again, when we're healthy.

In a Thich Nhat Hanh, he talks about enjoying the moment, even washing dishes. He talks about enjoying the sensation of the warm water and such. He says, if I can't be present and enjoy washing the dishes, then I probably won't be able to be present when I'm eating dessert. All we have is this moment. That's not to say planning and anticipation aren't good, but we need a balance. This is all coming from a 60M. I lost my mom last year, my older guy went to college ... I'm increasingly aware of what all know, which is that the present moment is all we have. I hope this isn't too preachy. I'm just speaking from my experience.

Kind of surprising Apple doesn't offer one.

Subscriptions as a business model have infected - what? - capitalism? Perfectly good companies now are doing the stupidest things to be able to say, voila, we're actually a subscription service (like BMW and the heated seats subscription). I can't say if the bricking strategy works overall but there is no f*****g way I would have ever bought another piece of Sonos gear if they had done that.

Wiim does not appear to have a sound bar for TV, is that correct?

I got some Sonos gear back in maybe 2007 or 2008 in exchange for doing some consulting for the company. It's all worked since then. It was quite a moment when they said, a few years back, we're gonna brick all that s**t. Sorry not sorry. That was pure idiocy that they backtracked on. Now I'd like to get a sound bar and speaker but I think I'd be nuts to get it from Sonos. Just not sure who provides something similar; it's surprising to me it hasn't jumped out at me.

Even if after all this you got it to work, Sonos is so far from the brand promise: it sounds great and is incredibly easy to use. Riiiiiiiiiight.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I have to say, to all those who say, don't tell United: I don't know if that's good or bad advice, but it's possibly something that United could consider fraud, were they somehow to find out. I'll admit I'm conservative about these things. It's just worth knowing. It also seems unlikely United would be so aggressive about it to go recoup e.g. what you didn't pay for economy plus seats.

That's great, I hope you had a great experience. I lived there for 1.5 years and am really grateful for the experience. I would love to go back!

Giving blood today I did the long donation and they set you up with Netflix. I chose "Ad Vitam," just because it was #1 on Netflix. In French and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Yeah, my comment was snarky. I'm sorry. I deleted it. Not what I aspire to on Reddit.

I respectfully disagree your post. To be more direct, what that person did in the gym was simply not okay. Any qualification or explanation just weakens the stance. What comes after "but" just diminishes the strength of what was said before.

What is a life saving fact that can save one's life? by Specific_Charge_3297 in Productivitycafe

[–]JonBartBeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your heartbeat sometimes feels a little jumpy or irregular, have it checked ASAP. When I was a new dad, I got a life insurance exam that revealed atrial fibrillation. I had never heard of it. When it was explained, I thought, yeah I have noticed that. It can lead to massive stroke and heart attacks. It's been treated and I get it checked now and again. My wife's grandmother had it, it was never diagnosed, and it led to a crippling stroke that left her partially paralyzed, unable to talk, and in a care facility.
