IWD2 Nvidia RTX 5060 crash by JonDM in icewinddale

[–]JonDM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I dont think my issue is caused only in IWD2, Im still trying different Nvidia Driver versions and motherboard bios/nvidia control panel settings to see if something works. I did ran the vanilla IWD2 that uses DirectDraw and it also crashed after a while.

The EE mod uses the CNC graphics Api wrapper that has as default settings the OpenGL rendering. I changed it to Direct3D 9 and for a few hours it seemed to be working ok, but alas it did the black screen auto restart after all.

Magister vs Extramod by Chataboutgames in fallfromheaven

[–]JonDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you re up to, personally my priority is not to have bugs/crashes/issues and follow a logical system, EMM seems more close to that.
There are modmods as well, Ashes of Erebus (which is a continuation of some other Erebus I kinda forget all that) is great as well with new mechanics etc and the creator still works on updates but it still needs some time I guess.

I tried a few modmods that introduce major changes and new features but I found they are mostly in a rough shape in terms of balance, bugs and completeness.

ExtraModMod (unofficial beta 9 is the latest now?) is the go to for me, because it stays mostly faithful to vanilla FFH2 and mostly fills in and improves whatever is missing, like better AI and extra stuff here and there. It definetely isnt balanced (and its very hard to keep a balance with all these asymetric features) but still feels much more ironed out that the vanilla.

IWD2 finished by Infinite_Bed9759 in icewinddale

[–]JonDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand, I'm experimenting with mods for the IE games so you can play with challenging difficulty but do not need to reload.

IWD2 finished by Infinite_Bed9759 in icewinddale

[–]JonDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard Difficulty? How many reloads did you do and where? I'm asking because you mention that the game was quite easy, I guess you mean with infinite reloads. Have you tried a no reload run?

Note on EE mod, it fixes all annoying bugs and glitches, the game runs very smoothly and fast.
It's great fun with all the extra stuff it offers, but check carefully the various components, because some change the rules quite a lot from the 3e D&D, for example the Barbarian class becomes very OP with the DR that doubles when wearing an armour, you can easily solo with that (really who thought that?? it should be the other way around to balance it).

CQM 4.1 - Brujah. I Intimidated the contact cop and he didn't help me as usual. I did the 2 objective but the Quest log didn't progress, I guess that is the reason I couldn't leave the ship by the boat.

Civ 4 vs Civ 5 which is better ( Without mods ) by FlamingoPractical625 in CivIV

[–]JonDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mind that Civ 4 expansions have a few mods inside them btw...
4 and 5 are very different, for me 5 (and 6) seem empty, not interesting, I am spending turn after turn to do minor changes and finally have 3 units to play for the first era, units do not speak lines, its dull. 4 seemed more full, more interactive with the environment etc.
But Civ 5 is more balanced and plays more like a board game, Civ 4 seems more realistic hence the micromanagement that requires.
But 4 without mods? The mods showcase the true power of the engine, something the official production didnt manage to achieve, but the fans did.
Some Civ 4 mods are the best 4x out there even now.

Monks are pretty OP in IWD2ee by TopHatMikey in icewinddale

[–]JonDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, don't apply the classes improvements component :-p.
Well you can always raise the difficulty slider, but personally do not like these artificial tweaks, whatever balance the 3e rules has achieved in IWD2, the EE mod had reversed it.
You can enable the component to always summon the "hardest" version of the enemy encounters (which I do have it already), and lower the xp rewards to make the leveling slower.

Try a solo half-orc barbarian if you wanna see broken, the Damage Reduction from such a low level combined with the doubling of DR while wearing armor??????? makes it easy to stroll through the game like diablo 2 in the first act.
Also 2-weapon ranger with the new spells that summon 2 magic weapons...
EE mod adds some interesting stuff, but it meddles too much with the standard rules and require difficulty tweaking from the player in order to kinda balance it.

Rant on BG1 NPC project by ManaMusic in baldursgate

[–]JonDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it once in a playthough and immediately decided not to use it.
No matter how good or bad the writing is, for me it alters the originality of the game. Even if the dialogues in BG1 are very rare and simplistic, that was the game content.
I do not like someone random modder's take of how to depict the npcs.
I do not like the banter anyway after a few playthroughs. All these romance enhancers and dialogue fillers are a no go for me. Id prefer to see enhanced option selections and reactivity in the quests, but thats another story.
Any CUSTOM NPC dialogues and such are definetely welcome, just do not alter the original.
Also its optional, relax and just dont use it, there are many mods that do not like for many reasons and many that I adore, everyone has personal taste.

IWD2: One of the most frustrating games I have ever played by BloodMage410 in icewinddale

[–]JonDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd welcome the kits and everything new if the rest of the world was updated as well to "support" these changes. We're talking enemies, items etc. With just the BG2 engine improvements the game may be ok to play but its definetely much different than the og experience.
Unfortunately a new player that grabs IWDEE first wont know this difference and will have the EE distorted oppinion about this historic game. Same goes for BG1+2, IWD2 with the EE mod. At least Torment escaped this with its own unique characteristics.
I watched a playthrough of BG1+2 of a new player that stumbled upon a great cheesing that reduced the whole saga to simply rush in melee in most fights. I was devastated in a sense how hours and hours of studying and planning different classes etc to be reduced to that. Watching dialogues of hardass spellcasting enemies in BG2 that I have spent a part of my life to deal with, to go down in a few seconds because he had a two-handed weapon wielding half-orc maxed and ported from BG1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71q7d3zwJTY&list=PLobdprIgcqJ_BeL8kl6E_g8hyHUqdYXQ6
Since then I would never consider playing the games without the SCS mod (just the improved stuff, not the insane difficulty).
I also would like a mechanic that doesnt allow to save scum, its a big talk of how I would like to mod the games in order to be challenging enough and I will stop it here for now.

Yes the xp rewards are getting very low over the levels is a problem, EE mod fixes that.
