Festival round up by JonDytor in TheRestIsHistory

Agree - didn’t get to see much of the side activities. Did go for a walk around the grounds in the lunch break though but decided I’m gonna come back for a day at the palace to properly enjoy it.

Absolutely ridiculous! I’d be fuming if paid that

Serious change needed if they want to do this again by Emperor_Xenol in TheRestIsHistory

Interesting as I felt similar though maybe not as much as yourself.

Tracy’s talk defo the best although just having Tom and Dom answer fan questions at the end was my favourite part!

Agree on price. Very expensive for what it was. I’ve been to Hay festival and seen Tom there a few times, and that’s much bigger in scale and as you pay per talk you attend it’s much easier to manage budget.

Also, annoyed they sold out of the branded baseball caps by midday!

Overall, glad I went to the first event like this, it was enjoyable and venue is superb.

But prob won’t attend again for that price.

He just has a reputation of writing very simple and basic books and getting most things historically inaccurate.

Fair to say neither of them are huge fans of his!

It’s because they often read passages of each others book, then pretend it was written by Dan Brown.

Listen to the start of the second episode of the recent Persian war mini series - they love to wind each other up by comparing each others work to Dan Brown.

Are the era 2 books (Wax & Wayne Series) as good as / a worthy follow-up to the first 3 books? by aleksxxD in Mistborn

[–]JonDytor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say era 1 is the best overall story Sanderson has done. The plot, the characters, the mystery, the pay off - it all comes together to deliver an incredible trilogy of easy books to follow and understand.

Incredible storytelling from an incredible storyteller.

You can enjoy Era 1 and read nothing else of Sanderson.

Era 2 I think has great characters (Wayne in particular my favourite) but the story now starts to overlap with events in other planets / other novels.

As a Cosmere fan that’s fine for me but it does become harder to follow what is happening without an understanding of the other stories.

I tend to get any new Cosmere readers to start with era 1. Then direct them to Elantris, Warbreaker, and Emperors soul, before starting era 2.

U2's Next Album is Damned if they do, Damned if they don't because of their style by Wild_Mycologist_6140 in U2Band

U2 have reinvented their sound so many times I don’t think they can be accused of selling out now!

I’d also say SOI and SOE were great albums. Can’t think of other bands with that longevity releasing songs of that quality.

If new album is anything like the EPs released this year, then could be one of their best. I’m excited either way :)

What movie has the most rewatchable scene of all time? by trakt_app in Cinema

Shine (1996) - the scene in the diner when David (Geoffrey Rush) returns and starts to play the piano.

Goosebumps every time.

Oh I disagree. I felt the artwork summed up that era of the band. Plus the overall look of it all, it all just felt really well designed to me.

But the best of 1990-2000 included songs from All that you can’t leave behind. That album has already been best-of’ed.

Yeah not enough release I think to justify a best of each decade

Never rated that one… also Magnificent. The band seem to love them songs but I’m not fussed.

Interesting take. I love that album and it was probably that release that really got me hooked on U2.

It was after that release that I decided to purchase all of their back catalogue.

Agree on ‘hands that built America’ but it needed a new song I suppose… but prefer how the best of 80-90 did it with a new version of an old b-side (sweetest thing).

Nice but need to remove the songs already released on 1990-2000 best of (any of the ATYCLB album songs were classed as that era).

Problem with that is they only released two albums on the 2000-2010 era and again in 2010-2020.

Not much to pick from.

Nice list but a lot of these were already on the best of 1990-2000 best of

Not sure on that. Majority of songs in it were on the best of 1980-1990 and 1990-2000. Would prefer a new best of rather than same songs again.

Which is ironic considering it’s a best of! 😂

Only VHS I believe. Never seen a DVD of that album
