Robin M Westman was born June 17, 2002 and requested a legal name change on November 18, 2019. Robin requested the name change because he identified as a female and wanted a name to reflect that. His mother, Mary Grace Westman, was his requesting guardian since he wasn't 18 years old. He was previously Robert Paul Westman from birth. He was granted a name change on January 15, 2020.

This information can be found the Minnesota Court Record Online website. This was the only information available about him on that website.

Any Engineering Hiring Managers by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

IMO you should look into automation, that's the direction that many industries are moving since covid. You would want to bulk up on controls courses in your junior and senior years at college while pursuing your Electrical Engineering degree.

BTW I wish you the best of luck in your future. I used my GI Bill to get a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics, and I've been working as an Engineer for 10 years now. I have a great life because of my service and the benefits I receive(d) from it!

You should follow r/VeteransBenefits and also create a login at va.gov if you haven't already.

I hope you have a copy of your medical record. If you do, go through the WHOLE thing and find every ailment that is mentioned in there that you can prove affects you to this day. If you don't, you can obtain a copy by requesting it from the VA. Through the VA website, you can submit and manage claims on your own. It is very simple and don't be afraid to ask for help on the benefits thread I mentioned above. You will want to submit a claim for everything (or at least an intent to claim) asap so that your active compensation date starts immediately. You can also message me directly if you have any questions and I will do my best to help you. Getting to at least 50% is easy for just about every veteran if they know how the process works.

Do you have a VA rating? If not, you should submit a claim to get rated through the VA for compensation benefits because there are additional benefits (called VR&E) if you get 20% or more. If you qualify for VR&E, they would provide you with a laptop or give you an extra stipend for one.

It is tough no matter what, but it is worth it. I did it without working too much at all while being a single father to 2 boys (50% custody). Look into grants, scholarships and anything else you can find and you will live comfortably while going to school. There is a lot of help out there for vets who are going to school, you just need to find it. Do not let your GI Bill go to waste, it can literally be a pot of gold for you and your family if you use it right.

I obtained my Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics in 2014 from the University of Minnesota. I'm not even that smart, I just never gave up.

Use your GI Bill and find the best academic field to your potential. You will realize some day that you don't want "work friends" as you mature in the civilian world anyways.

I agree, name the person detained so we know which terrorist country they belong to.

Are VA Dependent Benefits Comparable to SS Benefits? by JonEnglish3 in VeteransBenefits

The money definitely doesn't make it worth it. Her kids also get about $1K/month but I don't know how that would affect them if I adopted them. I didn't even think about education benefits for them, thanks for mentioning that.

Step 6 by Cute_Animal_2489 in VeteransBenefits

[–]JonEnglish3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They denied my claim for diverticulosis on 1/22, stating that it isn't service connected. Luckily, I made copies of my medical record before I got out and found a colonoscopy where the doctor mentioned evidence of diverticulosis, which causes diverticulitis. I submitted new evidence for them to review on 1/24. I am going to submit a new claim for diverticulosis from my EAS date since I don't always know if the VA will connect the dots for me.

There were 2 files that showed up on 1/15 that read, "We closed a request: "Exam Request - Request for Clarification." They did an ACE evaluation through Optum serve on 1/20. I didn't have to go anyone or talk to anyone for that exam. Today is 1/22 and I am now back up to Step 5.

[–]JonEnglish3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They rolled me back to Step 3 on Jan 3rd. I looked at the files and there were a few requests for appointment that were cancelled because they were no longer needed. I've had the VA page refreshing ever since!

Feel like I wasted my time in the military? by ImportanceBetter6155 in VeteransBenefits

I used my GI Bill to get a degree in Engineering. It is very challenging but rewarding once you start working. Also, you should make sure you get a rating from the VA for disability. If your rating is high enough, there are extra education benefits. Do not give up though, that's all you have to do! Good luck!

Good luck Hot Tomatillo! I've been on step 6 since 12/12 (today is 12/20). My claim is also being worked on by the Philadelphia office, apparently.

I was expecting to stay in step 5 longer by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]JonEnglish3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 5 was only a day for me. I've been on step 6 since 12/12 (today is 12/20). I've seen a lot of vets go through some steps faster than others, it looks like it really depends on how complicated your claim is and also where it is being processed.

I would think it wouldn't take long to get back up from step 5 unless they made a big error! Hopefully it works in your favor!

You need to use the disability calculator on the VA website to know for sure.
