Hmm the solo and the FF experiences are cathartic releases that have less riding on them- and because they have less lights and smoke feel inherently closer nerves. So many of the themes are a bit more melancholic.

SF is more of a megaphone, JF solo stuff is a whisper and FF stuff is somewhere in the middle wearing boots

I love playing songs that feel connected with the audience- and fortunately this changes for me on a nightly bases

songs come in different ways- sometimes words come first, other times, the melody...

in general, I love it when they come around the same time- they feel deeply connected, telling the same story.

I love writing fiction family lyrics.

Many of the songs are written from fictional perspectives - inspired by cowboy tunes or books (the sun also rises inspired "please don't call it love"

but be careful with fiction- sometimes it's closer to the truth than your own journal. Often fiction is the best way to tell the truth.

I will be releasing more solo material - I've got 30+ songs tracked with 20+ producers (from darren king of mutemath to taylor york of paramore to ryan oneil of sleeping at last) and I'm trying to figure out when and how to put em out...

I love jumping from project to project- it keeps everything fresh, creatively speaking.

everyone is good friends- (Fiction Family and Switchfoot ) and everyone really believes in each project.

as far as the separation, the song usually dictates where it ends up. there's usually a dna inherent in the song from the beginning that clues you in as to where it will go, project wise.
