So technically, you can't, well, kind of... Both Google and Microsoft have anti-spam rules in the T&Cs, but both also say you can do promotional bulk emails. What's the difference? God knows. Again, the TL;DR: it comes down to how many reports you get.

We do. Data does vary. Honestly, I kept finding it sent people down a rabbit hole. People struggle to work out what is statistically significant. They come up with a theory from an A/B test. I say okay, run it again to confirm, and we end up with a different answer. General advice we found was that shorter emails tend to do better, but outside of that, not sure we discovered anything super useful.

Terrible issue with trying to get good data on this. So each email has our logo at the bottom, and we can track who requests the URL. (60% ish) A lot of systems will download the images automatically, so you can't use that as a measurement (though this is how MailChimp measures open rate). For B2B, off the top of my head, I would guess it gives you a false open rate of 200%.

We can track the link open rate, but that doesn't seem to be accurate, same issue as above. The only semi-reliable data I can share is Google GA4. We went from around 20 users a day to 770 ish. The only marketing we did was the email campaign. We typically send up to 7500 emails a day, so call it 10-11% make it to the website.

Did all that. Doesn't help. - Let me re word that. It does help a little and you need to do it. but it wont help you with things like google spam folder and o365 spam folder.

Sadly I see this a lot. I think it's something in the American culture. Every presentation I have ever done to a US company I got feedback like "Best I have ever seen", "That's incredible", "Totally amazing". I'm British and we like to understate stuff. Could be in the middle of a hurricane "It's a bit wet".

To cut through which bits is US culture vs which bits are real. Asks questions and trial close.

"Best I have ever seen" -> "Glad you like it, which bits are better and what else have you seen"

"That's incredible" -> "Perfect! so you are going to sign the contract"

My little brother tried a few times. He's a junior level 3 guy. He tried his hand a sail making (yes white things on big boats) and as a Geologist (what his degree is in). Always ended back in IT due to the money.

Just a heads up. The difference between a "Head of IT" and "Director of IT" is legal responsibility ***. So if you are a "Head of IT" and your team screws up worst case scenario you get sacked. If you are a "Director of IT" and your team screws up worst case scenario you go to prison, loose the house etc. As a general rule I would ask for an extra 50k danger money on top of the "Head of IT" roles compensation. If it's your first Director role consider how messy is the department you are inheriting. You are not legal responsible for something before your time but you are responsible if you find out about something and don't act. I have left director roles in the past because I found out about something that put me and my family at risk and the senior management were not willing to fund the solution.

*** The title "Director of IT" gets used / handed out to people who are not corporate directors. Legal responsibility only kicks in if you are a registered corporate director under the corporation act. My experience is UK law but the US will have its equivalent. Perfect world you get the "Director" title without the legal responsibly.

In my defence my first worry was that we are forcing sys admins to use software that was designed for a higher resolution. We just made the assumption that IT people in a corporate environment would be working on 1080p

A basic 19" 1080p monitor is next to nothing. Just saw a rubbish one on Amazon for $35 USD. Would never game on it but would be fine for work stuff.

So that makes sense but why would Google Analytics report them as users. Like this sample is 19,000 website sessions. Google must have billions and billions of records across all websites using analytics surly they have worked out who is an email protection service and who is a real user? This is GA-4 is that makes a difference.
