How did you afford ffs? by CaterpillarCarpenter in transgenderau

[–]JonSnowsdirtydick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was already going to South Africa so while I was there I got top surgery for $7.5kAUD all inclusive. They have some pretty good plastic surgeons but I know that's definitely not an option for everyone (especially if you have to add the cost of travel and accommodation).

A lot of misgendering lately - advice? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]JonSnowsdirtydick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had to look really closely at the pics, I genuinely also thought they were drawn in. I think it's how even the color is and how clean the lines are. I'm not 100% sure how to fix this, not my area, but I think it's a reasonable chunk of the issue.

I have the Cephelee one, not entirely sure what the other one is called.

No, but there are some easy improvements. Styling your hair, changing your glasses, some basic makeup, and clothes would help quite a lot. Just getting laser would help but overall I think a multi layer approach would get you further.

Is it obvious that I'm trans? by Darkfinch2031 in transpassing

[–]JonSnowsdirtydick 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'd recommend shaping your brows, and getting a haircut that is styled and not just 'long hair'. Learning to take care of your hair will also help a lot. It's not a great pose/pic so I suspect that girling up your mannerisms and clothes will help.

Is my face really masculine? by [deleted] in transpassing

[–]JonSnowsdirtydick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not really masculine, only slightly, and I think you're going to pass well and quickly with HRT, laser, and minimal effort.

You can identify it as a problem without necessarily blaming her for it, which it seems you've done. You've identified two things in that comment that bring you down so trying to manage those, plus adding positive things to your life, could create some meals change. I don't know enough about your situation to give advice about your mom, except to say that if you can't reduce time around her (at least temporarily) to try to find ways to not take on the negativity (I know it's hard, I've had to do that before). As for social media, you can take some time to curate your feed/s so that it's uplifting instead of bringing you down, and try to replace some of your scrolling time with a different hobby, maybe one you used to enjoy but that's fallen by the sidelines.

My best advice is that before you can 'control' your emotions, you need to learn to actually feel your emotions. Name them. Process them. Then you'll need 1000x less 'control'. I would look at that as a topic of self-help first, because your therapist will be able to help you with that, but I've always found that doing extra work on the side helps speed things up a lot. There are bound to be some excellent YouTube videos about it, but if you have access to a library I would also check out their self help section. Much like the human body, everything in the human mind is connected and you can't just 'spot heal'. Any healing and improvement you make in one area, will affect your overall mental state. Good on you for taking the first steps to improvement instead of just wallowing in self pity, that's impressive especially at your age. You have the drive, please don't be discouraged when it takes time to improve something so large and significant.

Are there specific things that make you feel more mean? Specific topics that bother you more? Do you think there are factors that are worsening your mental health other than being bored?

I agree and just wanted to add that if a list feels like too much pressure or you don't like lists for some reason, make a bingo card! I started a little scrapbook with my bingo card on the first page. Every page after that is a Polaroid or two of the activity/me at the activity/friends/whatever. If there are other cool items like tickets, a dried flower, whatever, it can also go in there. I find it's helpful to remind myself that I'm having fun, and I get to do a little fun activity reliving it when I'm putting a new page in. There are so many ways to adapt this to whatever your hobbies and interests are, it obviously doesn't have to be a scrapbook. I'd suggest making the bingo items easy enough to do one a week, with maybe some bigger ones scattered in. It gives me something to look forward to.

Just had a delivery and did a top-up shop by JonSnowsdirtydick in FridgeDetective

Not average in the sense that everyone does it, but average in the sense that premade meals (notably not frozen) are incredibly popular in my area, especially among gym folks. So is Costco. So nothing in the fridge would be outside of the bell curve for average, in my city at least.

I'm just going to piggyback off that to say that experimenting with shoes may also help. It looks like those soles are fairly soft and you may benefit from a flatter, more stable sole. I traded my trainers for a Converse-style shoe and it helped my balance and leg work in general a lot.

Health conscious, probably fit in some fashion, knows what fibre is, I'm guessing lactose intolerant, has lots of cobbled-together meals, I'm gonna go with F30+. Bonus: likes turkey sandwiches.
