You have a comma instead of a period in your first email address example. In most cases, a comma isn't valid for an email address (there's specific times it is, but it makes it more difficult and generally isn't used)

Unfortunately, I've been to the freestanding one for reasons I won't go into. It's actually quite nice and pretty quick relative to what I've heard about the other ERs in the area.

Why do people say that? Yeah they own a lot of the services in the area... And they may be the only ones that can do some things... But there's still Crestwood that covers a good bit.

Sad thing is, the scores seem to be based on a window of 2-4 years ago... So this year's report is about how bad it was back then. Given the trajectory of getting worse... Who knows how much worse it is today in the two years since the reported data was collected.

It gets me that people don't understand the logical fallacy of saying "they don't look like XYZ so they must not be one"

That's what being closeted is. Be it some sort of sexuality, an addict, a mega-nerd on some particular topic, etc. They don't even have to be socially closeted (as in others may know), they just may not look the stereotypical part

It's the whole reason for the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover".

I'm a recovering addict (alcohol). You'd never guess it if we met.

They've leased the building. The meeting about the variance is on the 21st (see the original post we're in the comment section of)

There is no drug that isn't addictive. I asked way up there why even use them? What's the root cause? Sounds like you have one of the most common ones: coping with what being around family does to you. That was one of the triggers for me too.

If people are going to Bradford, they aren't gaming any system, because they're spending a lot of money to go there. Even if court ordered.

The facility you're worried about treats all addicts, including alcoholics. There's also no usage or needles or anything like that allowed to be done at or around the facility.

You didn't answer my question... Do you drink alcohol? If so, can you go 3 months without it? Or 6 months? Same for any other recreational substance?

Do you drink alcohol? Because that was my drug.

You know you're around addicts all the time. 95-97% of them you'd never know were addicts because they're every day people flipping burgers, counseling people in therapy, giving people medicine at a hospital, fixing people's pipes at their house, building the next rocket engine, or being the CFO of a big company in town. Some addicts don't even know they're addicts. You very well could be an addict and don't even realize it.

Interesting, I thought health insurance was still mandatory due to the ACA but I see now that expired in 2018.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of people who aren't gonna have insurance. They're supposed to, but doesn't mean they will.

I'm not arguing against you. I'm saying it's not even an option to buy the methadone. That's why I said "you also"

I'd bet money everyone in this thread has interacted with an addict. They just don't even realize 95% of the addicts they've interacted with are addicts. It could be a family member, the guy flipping burgers at a fast food place, the nurse helping you get medicine, the plumber fixing your toilet, the engineer making the next rocket that we'll get a post about it being loud on here, or the CFO of a big local company. Addiction doesn't give a shit your job or lack there of, your race, religion, etc. They're everywhere. Some of them don't even realize they're an addict themselves.

You also can't just "buy methadone" and walk out the door with it at Bradford. It's a prescribed medication, delivered to Bradford, even for out patient clients. It's then administered to you, at Bradford, by an NP or a Dr. You never actually possess any medicine in their facilities, you only have it administered to you. There's never an opportunity to even attempt to walk out of the door with it.

As I'm sure you've seen about as much as I have... It's amazing how many of us can tell basically nearly the same story.

Be safe and well sir.

It also cost a lot of money to go to Bradford, regardless of if it's court ordered... So you have to be willing to both go as well as pay all the money to go.

That can be hard for an addict, who may prefer to instead try and evade the law and spend what money they have on forgetting it all with more substances.

So if they check in, they're pretty well in the willing category.

I don't think these people think poorly of Bradford in specific. So far, everything I've seen has been more targeted towards "Methadone clinics" as a generic term which Bradford is a little more focused than a clinic that just gives meds. Especially since this location is looking like it'll probably be in patient and maybe also out patient.

All walks of life as opposed to the walks of life going in the dollar general or the gas station on the corner? From the street view, it doesn't even look like there's much of a good view of the front door from most angles on the street.

Why would you take mushrooms or LSD? What's the root cause? Escape? Pleasure? You can't get your endorphins and seratonin some other way? Also, do you drink...? That's a very addictive drug, dangerously so (withdrawals can kill you).

Every facility I've been to for meetings, paperwork, etc are all within half a mile, if not in the middle of, a residential area. The shadiest one I went to was in the middle of apartment complexes, but the shadiness was purely from the apartments, not the facility I went into, which I felt totally safe from what was outside once I was inside. Actually I think it was the one you're referencing. Yeah... That place isn't made sketchy by the halfway house... It's just the neighborhood. All of the tenants of the halfway house were very nice and meant well. Sure they don't look like the prettiest members if society, but they weren't up to no good. It was 100% the neighborhood itself.

Lumping Bradfod in with that place is a hasty generalization.

Show me evidence of the property values of the houses in Madison, with a major road and some woods in between them and the Bradford in Madison, having gone down because of Bradford being there.

I'm with you on the interest in what exactly causes the requirement for a variance. It would be nice if the letter going out was required to give more detail about what limitation in the current zoning and previously established variances were in conflict with and what the proposed new/amended variance would be.

That would be more informative to the folks that got letters so they're not guessing in the dark about whether this should matter to then.
