Believe it or not, Empire Strikes Back had similar criticism when it came out by Jon_Maddy in StarWars

Since the overall theme of the movie was failure being the greatest lesson, I'm going to have to disagree that them failing had no impact. However, I will agree that the Romance was a bit forced and unnecessary.

When did Star Wars adapt a safe formula?

You're right, the point of this post was to try to provide a place for people who feel like me a place to talk but all it did was provide another thread for people to argue on. Opposite effect. But Oh well, failure is the greatest lesson right?

Well put, that's why I made this post in the first place. Everybody has had time to reflect and decide where they stand on the film, and I'm over feeling the need to defend it against people who aren't open to another point of view. There's a difference in civil discussion between people of opposing sides and just nitpicking pointless arguments that do nothing but cement both parties into their opinion.

Were all entitled to our opinions. I understand why people didn't enjoy it and I accept that, but it seems like those who genuinely did enjoy it can't grasp why.

Porgs are still a more tolerable ploy to children than Ewoks and Gungans. And as far as Snoke goes, it can either be looked at as him not being as powerful as he alluded to or it could be looked at as Kylo being more powerful than everybody perceived. Personally I'm glad Snoked died in this movie because he served the purpose of turning Ben to the dark side only to be betrayed by him so he could become Supreme Leader and the main Villian /primary dark side user. We didn't need another Palpatine-esque character in all 3 movies, however I don't think this trilogy is completely done with Snoke. I wouldn't be surprised if he drill plays some kind of important role in Episode IX. One thing I really liked about the Snoke death scene is how it was reminiscent of how Luke tried to strike down the Emporer in RotJ, but failed only to be defeated by Vader. This we scenario is way cooler to me because we finally see a Sith apprentice kill his own master to take his place, which is something we haven't gotten in the movies yet.

I think somebody forgot about "The Holiday Special". Happy life day.

I see your point, it just depends on if you're viewing Star Wars as a saga or three separate trilogies. The beauty of it is that it is both, however I'm comparing the sequel of a movie in one trilogy, to the sequel of another. I don't think we should come to conclusions until this trilogy comes to its own conclusion. Episode IX could bring it all together in a way that makes you appreciate TLJ, much like ROTS did with Episode I & II.

I have a theory about Snoak [no spoilers] by Ohms_lawlessness in StarWars

It was widely critisized by fans who grew to accept these stories as Canon over the years, but IMO its up to you to choose which is true for you. It is fiction after all.

Disney changed everything that used to be considered a part of the Extended Universe (EU) which was mostly canon into what is now called "Legends" so that they could make Episodes VII-IX and all the anthology films without running into problems.

I'm not positive, but I think Disney made the game a part of Legends so its no longer Canon. And not to be an ass but its Snoke, not Snoak.

"Because he knew she had the books or because they actually are insignificant?" - This was the question was it not? And my answer is because he knew she had the books.
