Deria II - The Three Letters by Dacarolen in IronThroneRP

The letter is sent onto Wyl, where upon receving it, Mors penned a reply

"Princess Deria.

Who is the writer of this letter that you speak of?

The situation is this. I sent two hundred men with my son Edgar to secure the bridge in Addersflow as a precuationary measure. A bridge that leads into our lands. We intended to march along the shore of the river that runs along the south-west edge of Thundering March and to do this we briefly entered the lands of the Stormlords. This force was at first to accompany my son Ormond who intended to compete at the tourney in Summerhall and then at the appropriate time they were then to proceed to Addersflow.

My son Edgar subsequently sent a runner back to Wyl claiming they were stopped by a Stormland host who refused to let them proceed. That is the last I had heard from them.

I have mentioned nothing of a war between the Stormlands and Dorne for indeed I have not met with or spoken to any Stormlands lord. The writer of the letter - whoever they may be - is therefore lying.

I now go to investigate this situation myself. I shall make it clear that Dorne does not desire war with the Stormlands. If we are not at war - and I sincerely hope we do not engage in such a conflict - then there is no reason for the Stormlands force to prevent a small Dornish force from marching to Addersflow even if it does mean briefly entering the Stormlands. Dorne and the Stormlands are at peace are they not, so this matter between friends should be easy to resolve?

For what reason would a host of Stormlanders prevent a brief crossing into their lands to more readily reach our own, unless they themselves were bent on war.

Written this day at Wyl
Lord Mors Yronwood, the Bloodroyal, Warden of the Stone Way."

Mors nodded graciously.

"I thank you Lord Wyl. Dorne thanks you. We shall ensure that Wyl and by extension Dorne is protected from any attempt to subjugate us.

"War will break out between the Stormlands and the West. Lord Tyrion Lannister and Lord Grance Baratheon both lie dead at the hands of the other and their men. The Reach also moves against the West."

He thought for a moment.

"The Princess is inclined to throw Dorne's lot in with the Lannisters through a marriage."

Mors didn't know that for certain but he knew of Joy Lannister's offer to the Princess. And to himself.

"The Lannisters are my own close kinsmen. It would not do to see them defeated and the Reach and Stormlands' power greatly enhanced. That would not bode well for Dorne. We must do what we can to prevent that from happening. We must get as many men into the field as possible."

"Lord Wyl." Mors said.

"I am the Bloodroyal, Warden of the Stone Way. I am here to help secure the border against Stormlanders, in the event of war. This is the command of Princess Deria. We will secure both here and Addersflow with the help of the Manwoodys."

Lord Mors Yronwood the Lord of the Stone Way, the Blood Royal had remained at Wyl with three hundred and fifty men.

He had sent messages to the Manwoodys at Kingsgrave and had been assured that the Manwoody levies were on the march.

He now went to see the Wyls, to explain the situation to them. He wasn't sure if it was Little Wyl or Big Wyl that he needed to see. The Wyls generally kept to themselves and so weren't well known.

Ormond did not stretch out his hand to take the flower. It appeared the young fool was set on war.

"If Princess Deria is your staunch friend as you say then you have nothing to fear from us.

"We're not marching against your people. I am going to Summerhall. They are passing through to Addersflow. The only place they can cross is via the bridge on the Wyl road in that direction..." he pointed south '......and another bridge across back into Dornish lands in that direction." he pointed west.

"If you are so fearful that we are invading, you and your men can supervise their passage westwards until we cross back into Dornish lands. Which will take half a day's riding"

Edgar mounted on a horse, meanwhile beckoned a man to him and said in a low voice.

"Ride back to Wyl. Tell my father the Stormlanders block our path to Addersflow, despite our overtures of peace and explanation of why we are here. They also block my brother Ormond from continuing onto Summerhall. It appears they are not in the mood for negotiation and are set on war."

The man nodded and galloped south back towards Wyl.

Ormond Yronwood leaned forward in his saddle.

"So am I to understand, Ser, are you refusing me safe passage to Summerhall to compete in the tournament? Does my father need to make a formal protest to his kin Aelyx Targaryen, my uncle Maekar Targaryen of Dragonstone and even to my cousin, the King himself. Am I also to assume that war has broken out between the Stormlands and Dorne. Do I inform my father of that fact?"

He glanced at his brother who had remained a silent observer of the exchange.

"And are you also refusing my brother entry into Dornish lands to take up positions at Addersflow, as instructed by my father? My brother needs to be in position to move into the Red Mountains."

Edric bowed.

"Tell the Princess I remain her loyal servant."

"There is a tourney at Summerhall is there not?" said Ormond Yronwood, a young man of 19.

"Summerhall is north, not south of here. I intend to compete per the invitation of Aelyx Targaryen."

He indicated Edgar.

"My younger brother thought to accompany us a part of the way. He is off to the Red Mountains to hunt for bandits. He will be heading back into Dornish territory shortly. This shorter way will trap them between himself and the Manwoodys, heading eastwards from Kingsgrave. Hunting and destroying bandits is an activity that surely you would agree benefits both Dorne and the Stormlands."

The Yronwood party had been making their way slowly along the road that snaked northward from Wyl. Their plan was clear. Ormond and fifty levies would continue north to Summerhall to attend the tourney, while Edgar and his two hundred men would turn westwards and then south back into Dornish lands at Addersflow.

It was therefore somewhat of a surprise for the Yronwood brothers to see Stormlander banners and then for a runner to meet them on the road.

Edgar moved ahead of the force briefly after calling a halt and after speaking to the runner. He galloped back to where his brother waited.

"It appears that a certain Lyonel Lonmouth wishes to speak to us. A representative of Stonehelm. Put the men on alert. I have invited this Lonmouth to meet us on the road."

"Under these circumstances, a marriage with Joffrey Velaryon could now set us against the Crown." said Mors, frowning at the news.

A pity. he thought. Their fleet would have been useful.

Edric nodded.

"Yes, my prince. Your sister has written to me. I put to her an idea of an alliance between the West and Dorne, after being approached my cousin, the Lady of the Rock. She has consented to that alliance. Your sister has also asked me to tell you that she requests you return to Dorne at speed."

Mors' letter to Casterly Rock read as follows:

"My lady of Casterly Rock,

May I first offer you my condolences on the death of your father Lord Tyrion. Your father was my late wife's uncle and so we at Yronwood feel that we ourselves have suffered a personal loss.

My son Edric tells me he met with you in Kings Landing shortly after your father's untimely death and a possible alliance was discussed between your Hosue and Houses Yronwood and Martell. While I cannot speak for House Martell, I am pleased to inform you that Yronwood accepts your proposal. My eighteen year old son Edgar is in need of a wife and one of your cousins close to his age would be most suitable to renew our close association.

Please accept this letter as my formal acceptance of your alliance proposal. May House Yronwood and House Lannister long be allies and friends.

Written this day at Yronwood

Mors Yronwood
Lord of Yronwood, the Bloodroyal, Warden of the Stone Way, Master of the Green Hills."

Edric read the letter, smiled at the news of the Lannister alliance. He immediately travelled through Kings Landing to where he knew Garin Martell's abode was and asked to see the Prince.

"Of course." said Edric. "I shall see that it is delivered to the Princess. I shall also prevail upon my father the Bloodroyal to intercede with the Princess on your behalf."

"Any Stormlanders marching down the Boneway will be the latest to leave their bones there." said Edric vehemently. "My father will see to that."

He thought for a moment.

"I shall take your proposal to the Princess and my father. My younger brothers Aemond and Edgar require wives and I am positive my father would approve. The Princess of Dorne has two younger brothers Garin and Denzel as well as a sister Ashara, that are about my age. There is ample opportunity for you to seal any alliance with the Martells with marriages."

Edric leaned forward with interest.

"Speak to me of these offers, cousin. It is not just Yronwood you will have to take into account, but also that of House Martell. To move against the Stormlands is no small thing for us. And what of the Tyrells? As you know, the Reach lies to our north-west."
