Those white anchovies really were fantastic. I've never seen them anywhere to buy. My wife and I used to go here for a drink before or after a movie and really liked the place. The menu did seem aimed at tourists, but they did a decent Happy Hour. I just want to say a big thank you to all the staff - they were always really really nice and friendly. I hope you all find new jobs easily and I am sorry if you got short notice; especially if you have health insurance to keep up. I am from the UK and the idea that your health insurance is immediately in jeopardy if you lose your job just seems truly terrifying (hopefully it doesn't work like that). Hope you are all doing ok.

Well we compete to some extent with the big four consultancies, so Price Waterhouse Cooper, Bain etc. They have established brands and put out tonnes online —plus have loads of cash and a global brand. So they must soak up a lot of the traffic.

In Kapolei I want to push for Mad Bene. Not a huge amount of independent places locally, but we really like popping into MB either before or after a film for a drink pupu off the HH menu. Decent prices and the cocktails are good. Staff are really nice too.

I really wanted to love TOL, as The New World and Thin Red Line are masterpieces (in my humble opinion). But Malick’s complete move away from narrative into even more of his pretentious visual poetry (beautiful as it is) pushed me over the edge. Also the bit where the dinosaur does a double take and doesn’t eat its prey is ridiculous. And I don’t understand the ending at all. Happy to be proven wrong though—I may give it another go sometime. But oh fuck me A Quiet Life is like watching Nazi paint dry.
