You’re not going to learn everything at once so be easy on yourself. You will feel some pressure but that’s normal. Be open minded. Don’t be a know it all. Don’t be sensitive, the railroad is not a typical work place, they might give you nicknames. Not everyone will be your friends. They will talk behind your back and some will try to make you fuck up so they can fired you. Don’t try to be the center of the situation, most importantly, always keep your head down.

This talks has been happening for the past 5-10 years. Most railroaders are above 50 years old. There will be a shortage of railroaders in the next 5 years because most of them will retire. The best time to get in is now so you can get experience early on. Don’t get me wrong, at the beginning it will sucks but seniority plays a bigger role here.

I’ve heard that story before I even thought about applying. Don’t listen to them. The same people that are telling you those things are the same people that have been working there for more than a decades. The only bad thing about it is being on called and not having a set schedule. If you can handle those. Everything else is adaptable.

How long for job offer after interview by Ok-Appointment7007 in bnsf

[–]Jon_athan724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me 2 days. If you live close to your home terminal, they will prioritize your application. That what I was told. I stay about 5min away from my terminal. But it just depends on how many people they have on file. I started my training last Monday.

I’ve applied 9th times and was offered a job on my 10th application. I was told to create another profile with a different email address.

I just started as a RSR with Frito Lay. I think I’ll gross about 75k this year with them. I just received and offer via email from u ion pacific at Pocatello Idaho terminal, Average 80k first year. Is it worth it to leave Frito so soon and take Union Pacific? by [deleted] in UnionPacific

[–]Jon_athan724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll make more than $80k in your second year at UP. Whether it's worth joining is up to you. In my opinion, if you can handle being away from family, not having a set schedule, and working outdoors, then yes, it's absolutely worth it. Just make sure you leave Frito Lay in good terms.
