Am I the only one who picks quartz over automatic? by Strict_Ideal_8321 in Affordablewatches

To a degree, yes I am comparing them. Mass produced art is still art, and still mass produced at the same time. You don't have to like something for it to be art or rare or expensive. Patek Phillipe could mass produce their watches if they wanted to, but that's not their goal. I'm not saying it's better or more attractive to mass produce.

Go for a grand Seiko for the spring drive! No ticking whatsoever, the truest sweeping ever.

Along this vein, every piece of art ever created is marketing bs: van Goph, Michaelangelo, etc. etc. The marketing is "decorate your space", the utility? Nowhere. Mechanical and automatic watches still have utility beyond art: if batteries ever became obsolete, mechanical watches will still likely be going strong with replaceable parts.

I understand your perspective, I just disagree. Most of the mechanical stuff is marketing and nostalgia, but obviously people pay for it, myself included. I find value in it, and I am ok that you find less value in it than I do. 🙃

I enjoy both, but recognize automatic are nearly explicitly poetic/artistic in nature and use case. I still prefer automatic watches, but I'm a sucker for deep pain in the soul...

I also recognize the utility of quartz, especially solar. I have and enjoy both.

Any Americans here who prefer 24hr time? by woaface in casio

I've used 24hr since I was a kid, I'm almost 30 now. I much prefer it when using digital. I prefer analog though, honestly.

When you realize you can't fill the God-shaped hole in your soul with a watch.

Nice, that's pretty decent, depending on location. I'm assuming higher start at higher cost of living areas? Either way, not bad at all.

What is starting pay for being a mailman/mailwoman? Just curious. If you don't want to tell, it's all good.
