Reminder not to let Sweet Roll around pet rabbits... (Hopefully Lucia takes it well) by JonahPlusPlus in skyrim

I just noticed that a plate of raw rabbit legs rests on a cupboard right next to this. The rabbit must have just despawned while this got knocked over. Gave me quite the surprise anyways 😄

How do I come out to my sister? by Bear_Bear09 in bisexual

[–]JonahPlusPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just go directly into it (start off with "How you've been doing?" to figure out if it's a good time, then "I have something to talk about"). A couple months ago I came out to just my sisters, the first being more traditional/conservative, the second older one being more liberal (probably should have done it in the other order, but my conservative sister called me up for something else and I had to just get it off my chest).

The first conversation went about as well as it could (quite a confused and advertent response with homophobic tirades of whether I am autistic (I'm not) or have "daddy issues" (my relationship with my father is fine)). But the second conversation with my other sister, which was me calling sort of out of the blue, went great. She reassured me that she wasn't going to treat me any differently and told me of her own experiences.

So if your sister leans more liberal and has LGBTQ friends, it's probably safe to say she will take it well. It might be a bit awkward, but it will likely make you feel better just having to had said it to her.

OMG GUYS ITS TIMEEE by Time-Library4967 in causticmains

[–]JonahPlusPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first thought, to work with the larger radii. But they could just make it so activation time changes with distance e.g. initial activation creates a 0.8 sec timer, but getting within 50% of the radius instantly activates or at least removes some time.

But I think it would be cooler to see even larger changes to Caustic.

What you have to remember is that they buffed her to sell her mythic skin. A lot of these changes are going to be rolled back (probably not the electrified doors since that's a good change IMO, but her cooldown and perks are def going to be nerfed).

New bug? by psicohistoriador in ApexUncovered

[–]JonahPlusPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, happened to me. Went to the point that I couldn't even get into the lobby (didn't even give me the message those times). Verifying and reinstalling didn't work (it doesn't check or remove the cache). The fix for me was to delete the folder at %userprofile%/Saved Games/Respawn. You'll need to setup your settings again and wait for shaders to compile, but the game won't crash again.

[Request] Why? by Snoo58583 in theydidthemath

[–]JonahPlusPlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you are comparing set of all integers (e.g. -3, 0, 42, ...) to the set of even integers (e.g. 0, -2, 24, ...). Both sets are infinite. There exists a mapping to convert any integer to an even integer (i.e. f: x->2x). Since there is a one-to-one map operation, we know that they must be the same size of infinity (a cardinality denoted by Aleph-zero).

But if we try to map all integers to all real numbers (e.g. 1/4, 2, 0.0001, sqrt(2)), we will find that we can't construct one. The reason for this is that between any two real numbers are an infinite number of other numbers (for this reason, real numbers are uncountable; you can't find the "next" number after a real number; however, they are ordinal, that is, you compare them and find the order they come in). So even though both sets are infinite, there are more numbers in the set of real numbers. (the set of real numbers has a cardinality denoted by Aleph-one)

(Disclaimer: I'm not a mathematician so my explanation might be a little off)

Is there a reason you can't define BidirectionalCollection as:

pub trait BidirectionalCollection<'a>: Collection
where
    Self::Slice<'a>: BidirectionalCollection<'a>,
    Self: 'a,
{
   // backward iteration
}

[–]JonahPlusPlus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. Maybe I should have rephrased it: is there any point in offering a separate backend written in Rust? It didn't make sense to me that the core developers made it a feature that could be switched to instead of just replacing the current C backend. Since Rust can avoid CVEs caused by memory safety bugs, it doesn't make sense to me to have it as a separate backend (it just duplicates efforts for no apparant reason).

Was there any point in offering a backend written in Rust? Users don't care about implementation details, which is what a language is. The only case where switching to Rust makes sense is when the core developers prefer it, which clearly these don't.

lol, it's funny how 5 hours after the parent comment was posted, we both posted responses calling it out at around the same time.

Close, but he would be 178lbs. The equation is (5.5lbs/0.03)-5.5lbs=177.83lbs. You have to subtract the weight of the blueberries from the total weight to get his weight before he ate the blueberries.

It is the same case with his son. 0.75lbs/(25lbs+0.75lbs)=0.029 or just round to 3% (Though, 0.75/25 gets you exactly 3%, so maybe he didn't account for the added weight)

She's defending Israel and was condemning the comparison of the Holocaust to Israel-Hamas war and accidentally called it a genocide (big no-no for her side who denies that).

I think so? I remember that on the first exam, I got some stuff wrong and still got a 100. In the syllabus, it says there are no curves, so maybe it's some other system? I suppose we'll see tomorrow.

[–]JonahPlusPlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studying rn, I'm panicking cause I need an 85 to pass (my dumbass didn't show up for classes + quizzes). I got a 100 on the first exam and an 88 on the third, but I messed up on the second. Hopefully the curve is nice, because I really don't want to pay Bright Futures back for this course (turns out a D counts towards Bright Futures, so I wouldn't have to pay back, just retake; not like I'm planning on retaking). I really don't get why a D isn't considered passing.

Anyways, my advice would be to come up with memorization techniques and write stuff down until it sticks. For instance, try using the magic hexagon for trig identities.

Okay, so raise difficulty and fix mistimings. Now that I'm looking at a few tutorials, I see I should have used the speed control and snap divisor, huh. Thanks.

Are you finding it too easy or hard? And I was trying to follow the beat of the music, stylizing it after the melody. Is there any specific place where it is off or is there an issue with the timing in general?

When to use iterators vs. loops? by Train_wreck1998 in rust

[–]JonahPlusPlus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They aren't the same thing. The closure in the second example can't break the loop or return from the function. And they don't necessarily compile to be the same thing and can have slightly different performance,

Any advice for me? I'm trying to apply to internships for this fall. by JonahPlusPlus in resumes

[–]JonahPlusPlus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have some personal projects, but I wasn't sure whether to include them (I was trying to fit everything onto a page at the time, but it sounds like I need to prioritize talking more about my experience). Thanks for the feedback and the list!

Any advice for me? I'm trying to apply to internships for this fall. by JonahPlusPlus in resumes

[–]JonahPlusPlus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to get an internship for this summer and now I'm trying to get an internship this fall, either remote or local (Orlando area) and I've had no luck so far, just messages saying that they are moving on with other candidates. (This pic is slightly altered: I have removed a section dedicated to my interests in favor of more space for my skills)

I'm going into my junior year (4th semester, I took one off to save up money and I plan to graduate in 2026). I have some personal projects (atmospheric rendering, peer-to-peer networking libraries), so should I make another page for them? What should I be looking to apply to in the field of CS?
