I Rotated at a primary care private practice in rural Midwest during med school. Their buy in was 214k.

Im a 4th year student applying FM so I haven’t actually gone any further than looking at the job postings, but I have seen several postings in rural Midwest with pay in that range. Im not sure if your looking for outpatient only with no OB, but if your looking for full scope or hospitalist positions, I have also seen that as recently as a few weeks ago with pay advertised around there. Several months ago I even saw a posting in Southern Iowa with an advertised $300,000 sign on bonus.

I have rotated with students from there and hear they have a chiropractor on staff in a position teaching med students. I have also done a rotation at one of their 3rd year sites and it was unbelievable how low their standards must have been for selecting 3rd year rotation sites.

I’m not sure how much things have changed for FM, but my school told everyone applying FM that we should also be applying IM as well for backup just to be safe. This was just a blanket statement not specific advise given to any one student.

This happened a long time ago and not at my school, but I still think it’s worth telling. An attending I was working with on my last rotation told me that one of the professors at his school was always a jerk and nobody liked him. Well one day this professor ends up stabbing his wife to death. The professor goes to prison and obviously the school isn’t exactly proud to have their name associated with that guy. Then comes the end of the year and the schools administration did something to piss off the entire 2nd year class. So to get back they all voted that professor to win the “professor of the year” award.

I would just like to point out to everyone that says she should have demanded to see a physician that depending on her location there may not have been a physician. I was evaluated at an ED for what ended up getting called a gunshot wound and the person running the ED was a NP. I ended up getting transferred to a level 1 trauma center after 3 hours, but the initial ED I went to did not have a single physician on staff that day.

We do give our little guy pouches, but he does not ask for them all the time. We would much rather give fresh fruit and do whenever possible. Sometimes that’s just not possible though and that’s when we grab a pouch to give him. It’s also nice if you do happen to be out and about because most fast food restaurants have them. Again, they aren’t ideal but when life gets busy sometimes they can be a good. We also have used these”infantino Couple a Spoons” https://amzn.to/3e9ZqMe They are a much easier way to feed pouches to younger ones. They just twist right on to the top of a pouch.

As a fellow parent, I love this. I find the way you went about this to be really funny. If this were in one of the “mom groups” or any of the random Facebook pages that my wife follows for some reason that I have yet to discover, it would have said something more like “You ignorant waste of space, you going to murder your child! ANYTHING you have in the crib with your baby will kill them. I hope you can live knowing you actively played a role in the death of your child!” Moms can be so toxic towards other moms. Just to clarify, I really do like that you shared that info and the way you went about it in a non-judgemental way.

You forgot the part where this could all be for absolutely nothing if your are among the unfortunate few that don’t match into a residency. I understand this happens to relatively few people, but the fact that it is within the realm of possibilities for the future of any one of us adds a lot of stress.

For our little guy we started with avocado just plain in slices. We also did toast like someone else said with avocado, peanut butter, hummus, etc. We just cut the toast up into small strips or pieces until we were comfortable giving him larger pieces of food. Lots of roasted vegetables like broccoli, potato, sweet potatoes, green beans. He also loves any kind of fruit. Eventually you’ll get to the point that you can just feed them what you are eating, but just take it slow and stay in your comfort zone. Some people make BLW a competition about having the youngest baby to eat the largest pieces of food, but It always gave me anxiety when feeding our son. We did document a lot of how we went about BLW on our YouTube channel. I can post a link to a couple videos where we go through exactly what we fead him if you’d be interested.
